...CHAPTER 3 COLONIAL HISTORY TRACKED Colonialism trumpeted the cultural superiority and rightness of the White. The European empire is said to have held sway over more than eighty-five percent of the rest of the globe by the time of the First World War, having consolidated power and control over several centuries. One of the ways by which colonialism maintained power was by writing its own histories. These histories were conceived within grand narratives of progress, expansion and enlightenment. Inevitably, they both systematically and accidentally recast, ignored and silenced other competing histories from the places and cultures with which they came into contact. Post - colonial studies has consequently set itself the task of examining and challenging those narratives, developing other ways of telling histories, and re – evaluating other ways of remembering. If post- colonial literature means the interrogation of the subaltern to the “center”, no other book is representative of the post-colonial theory and practice as Amitav Ghosh’s The Glass Palace. The novel won the 2001 Frankfurt e – book Award of fifty thousand dollars Grand Prize for Fiction. Abreast of the contemporary academic debates about colonialism and culture, Ghosh is well-equipped in challenging the institutionalized perspectives...

...Weeks 13 and 14 (4/21-5/1): Lease Financing and Course Conclusion Yikes! We are at the bittersweet time in our course together. It is almost over. We’ll miss it so much, but we might also want to do something else with the rest of our lives. In these last 1.7 weeks, we’ll cover another topic which, in addition to Financial Analysis and Planning, serves the function of integrating much of the material we have covered. That topic is Lease Financing. There is a lot of material on the structure of the lease and on the accounting treatment of leases, but the analytical focus will be on the lease-buy decision. The lease-buy decision is actually a financing decision. The analysis of the advisability of a lease typically follows a prior decision to acquire an asset (based on an investment decision analysis). In lease analyses we are comparing lease financing (which is a type of debt) to “regular” debt financing. Video 20 and Chapter 25 in BMA are the main materials. As you review the video, work through the lease example in the Excel file (financing uma 13.xlsx). Toward the end of video 20 is described the concept of adjusted present value. Pay close attention to this material as well, because it describes how in some very specific cases the results of an investment decision and a financing decision must be considered together. The deliverable for this two-week period is Exercise 4, which is an individual, i.e., not a team, exercise. We’ll also use the time to review...

Thus, this paper will examined the relationship between the push-pull factors and intentions to migrate which eventually may lead to Brain Drain. Seeing that brain drain of our Malaysian professionals will continue to go on which definitely will have an impact on our transformation, researcher believe that an intention to migrate is strong indicator for how we expect the individual to act in future and warn policymakers of a likely future scenario if they fail to act purposely. Moreover, intention surveys also can help policymakers to identify ‘trigger points’ where policies intervention will have the greatest impact. ...Stu Dent v. State Sentencing Proposal The sentencing stage is the last part of the criminal trial. In the Stu Dent v. State case the outcome of the sentencing can very from charge to charge. The prosecution and Defense attorneys have rested their cases and the decision has been made in this case. The judge now take the arguments in to consideration and pass down a judgment on the sentence the defendant will face. The defendant is charged with Homicide, kidnapping, burglary, assault of a police officer, and possession of drugs. The facts that lead to homicide are Uma Opee was stabbed 13 times and the skin particles under the victim’s nails matched the DNA to Stu Dents. The facts leading to the assault on a police officer comes when he punched Officer T. Chur in the face and yelled "Alien". Kidnapping comes from the fact that Mr. Dents used rope to tie the victim and he stuffed her mouth with cloth. Burglary charges are result of Mr. Dents entering the victim’s apartment without permission to be there and having the intent to commit a crime within that residence. Mr. Dents is also charged with possession of drugs because in his house was drugs that were found, the same drug ecstasy with the "thumbs-up" imprint found at the victim's apartment. In the State v. Stu Dent case the charge of Homicide carries the most weight of any of the charges. Mr. Dents is charged with Murder due the fact that the victim was stabbed 13 times and evidence supported the fact that Mr. Dent was...

...Prosecuting Argument Paper In the case of Stu Dents we have collectively decided that he is competent enough to stand trial for the murder of his girlfriend. Every state is different especially when it comes to the insanity defense, and there are many different standards for that rule as well. Knowing what is and what is not insanity and how it could be used in the courtroom when on trial is important as well. In this case, he is competent enough to stand trial and is not insane. In the state of Michigan Stu Dents would be getting the charge of first degree murder since he had committed murder but also the charge of kidnapping and robbery as well. In this case Stu Dents is not mentally incapable and is more than willing to stand trial for the actions that he committed that night. Although he was talking about aliens when he hit the officer does not mean that he is mentally incapable as he was probably just trying to save himself from being charged with a long sentence. It is very clear that Mr. Dents had committed the murder especially since many of her items were found at his home along with many different drugs. Even though there was no sign of forced entry there is still enough evidence to place him at the scene of the crime with the diary with him talking about things to buy and also having her belongings in his possession at his house as well. Here in Florida Mr. Dents would have been charged with First degree murder- due to the act being premeditated- the prosecution...

With straightforward timetables for customs tariff reduction, they went beyond the traditional accords that rarely included more than a few shallow trade preferences and loose promises of co-operation. This was especially true for several major Arab countries, such as Morocco, Tunisia, Egypt and Jordan, which had already launched structural adjustment and economic liberalization programs. At the end of the 1990s, all of these countries had concluded bilateral FTAs with each other to accelerate the relatively slow-moving ten-year Pan-Arab trade liberalization program. From a global point of view, however, these economies were too small to realize considerable bilateral trade potential; reciprocal provisions proved to be incompatible at times, and hindered the development of extended production chains involving several countries in the region. At the same time, these...
