In the novel Across Five Aprils, the President, Abraham Lincoln, has a large impact on the story as a whole. Lincoln was a very inspiring and important person to the nation at the time. For this reason, his legacy still lives on today. Lincoln especially impacted Jethro with his actions and wisdom, which shows throughout the novel. Many others in the country also looked up to President Lincoln. The mass reaction that people had to Lincoln's assassination emphasizes this. During his presidency, Lincoln had a large impact on the nation. At the time of the Civil War, some people believed that Lincoln's actions were not correct. For example, many people from the Union wanted a policy of no mercy for the South. However, he looked into the future and chose what would be best for the nation. In his letter to Jethro, Lincoln states 'there will be much criticism of that decision, but you will understand when I say if it be a wrong one, I have then erred on the side of mercy' (Hunt, 1964.) He knew that not everyone would agree with his decisions, but he still did what he believed was best. Qualities like this are why Jethro and many others looked up to Lincoln and followed his example. …show more content…
When faced with a problem that was too insurmountable to conquer on his own, Jethro turned to the President for help. For advice about his brother who had deserted, Jethro wrote a letter to the President. Lincoln wrote back and stated that 'all soldiers improperly absent from their posts, who report at certain points designated by a local recruit officer by April 1st, will be restored to their respective regiments without punishment except forfeiture of pay for the period of their absence' (Hunt, 1964). Decisions like this showed that Lincoln was in the best interest of helping the people. Jethro looked up to Lincoln as a role model that he could learn and receive advice from because of the decisions that he made and example that he

The cloud infrastructure can be viewed as containing both a physical layer and an abstraction layer. The physical layer consists of the hardware resources that are necessary to support the cloud services being provided, and typically includes server, storage and network components. The abstraction layer consists of the software deployed across the physical layer, which manifests the essential cloud characteristics. Conceptually the abstraction layer sits above the physical layer (NIST, 2011). The graphic above from NIST defines the Essential Characters, Service Models, and Deployment Models for Cloud Computing. Using Michael Porter’s Five Forces Model (Schilling, p. 74-76), we can examine the challenges that impact Cloud Computing from 5 perspectives as detailed in the sections below. * Rivalry among existing competitors * Threats of New Entrants * Bargaining...

Developing Guidelines to Design Gestures for Teaching Chinese as a Second Language

...theories, this project investigates what parts are involved in making gestures and how gestures carry meanings. A wide range of body parts are involved in making a gesture. According to David Mcneill, the physical movements acquire meaning by iconics, metaphorics, deictics, and beats. The project also discovers an etymological way to connect gestures to Chinese vocabulary. Based on the findings, the project further develops some guidelines to design gestures for teaching Chinese. They are making easy movements, identifying teaching content, making gestures understandable to your students, and applying gestures into teaching. 12 Angry Men

...Elizabeth Herrera April 23, 2014 Comm 151 12 Angry Men: Communication Analysis In the film, 12 Angry Men, viewers come across a group of men who display the different communication dynamics – both the positive and negative sides. Chapter 7 encompasses the idea of Group and Team Communication Skills and how one should communicate effectively among others. To help better understand, 12 Angry Men is centered on a jury’s deliberation in a murder case. A group of men are given the job to deliberate the life of a young boy who has been accused of murdering his father. With only a knife that’s been left behind in the murder scene and a few witnesses who claim they heard the boy scream and run out of the room; these 12 jurors will have to come up with a reasonable doubt in favor to spare the boys life or cast him guilty. Eleven of the jurors vote guilty while Juror 8 is the only one who votes “not guilty.” As the story starts to unfold, viewers get a glimpse of the juror’s personalities, communication approach, culture, preconceptions, and background and how theses factors influence their deliberation and their treatment towards one another. We can draw from the film that poor Conversational Style was used, the book notes, “Sometimes barriers are not in words but in how they are delivered” (145). These men were not respectful with one another when it came to speaking their turn due to their difference in opinions; which led them to lash out at one another. The book encourages...

12 Angry Men

...The 12 Angry Men Case Dennis Ojwang Organizational Management 701 February 26, 2015 When this movie was made, no one could have depicted that it would greatly speak of the ever changing dynamics of our world today. Immigration and diversity seem to have plagued the world now more than ever and it is no surprise that the business world has been changed tremendously. When this movie came out in 1957, there wasn’t much diversity as we see it today. Upon watching this movie, various topics covered, ranging from power and influence, ethical decision making and diversity, group formation and dynamics, cultural diversity, organizational culture, conflict management and then, there’s an introduction of Fiedler’s leadership model. The setting of the movie offers consistency, investment, rigidity, autonomy and fairness in terms of assessing different levels of conflict and negotiation. I would say that the most evident styles of conflict in the movie are accommodating, compromising and collaborating conflict resolution styles. The jury is involved in a high profile case about a young boy who, if found guilty, then he will be sent to the electric chair. There are several topics that are related to organizational management class that will be portrayed throughout this jury process. The jury, in determining the fate of the young man, who murdered his father, must closely work together and whether consciously or unconsciously, they have been introduced to the forming, storming, norming...
