Top 5 Character Strengths
1) Appreciation of Beauty & Excellence
2) Perspective
3) Judgment
4) Leadership
5) Fairness

Trying to balance my romantic/social, extracurricular, volunteer and work life all the while keeping my financials in check reflects one of the most prevalent stressors in my life currently as a college student. I realize I may not be the only one in this situation, however, the level of stress that is dumped on my head from both family and friends/professors as I laboriously attempt to work towards my goal of becoming a dentist (although I am not completely sure that is my ultimate goal), is unfathomable.

Howbeit, identifying my character strengths can effectively aid me in building on the positive aspects in my life by applying them to areas in which I feel intense pressure. For example, feeling a sense of …show more content…
Taking pleasure in every endeavor known to man will also require the application of different lenses or perspectives which I believe I hold the ability to see through, to an extent. Although the way I look at the world makes sense to myself, I am unable to provide a clear picture or wise counseling to others which reflects another one of my stressors. Changing my views into a more positive perspective can alter my learned helplessness nonetheless. Having a strong judgment prevents me from jumping to conclusions. This characteristic will force me to get my thoughts organized and help me in the long run. Thinking things through and examining them from all sides will make me question my arguments, plans for the day, friendships, trust, and so much more if utilized positively.

VIA Character Strengths

...In order to determine my strengths this week I completed the VIA Survey of Character Strengths. In 1999, Dr. Peterson and Dr. Siegelman collaborated to create the VIA survey to help us with our understanding of psychological strengths. These doctors both had similar hopes, on creating a pathway for positive psychology and dramatically changing the traditional approach to diagnosis and treatment. The VIA survey is used to find virtues, character strengths and situational habits as these are core components agreed upon by Sigelman and Peterson. It has been found through the research and the VIA Institute on Character, which provides access to raw data for use in hundreds of research studies. These studies have provided us with strong evidence...

Analysis of Character Strengths and Effects on Well-Being

...Character Strengths and Well-Being Analysis As children, we rely on our parents and those closest to us to teach us how to live. They are the ones that directly influence our morals, values, character, etc. Once we get older, outside influences like school, media, and our peers start to affect us as well. The character strengths we possess are also included in this. These types of strengths are taught to us through practice over time as we grow up. Jane Gillham discusses how we are influenced by our families, community, media, etc. in her study on whether or not one’s character strengths affect our subjective well-being. She defines this type of well-being as “the cognitive and emotional evaluations of our lives”. (Gillham) Her studies have shown that character strengths have been previously found to relate inversely with behavior issues like depression and suicide. In her most recent study, she focuses on whether or not character strengths like honesty and happiness and whether or not our strengths say anything about our overall well-being. However, in this particular study, I think there are far too many factors to actually correlate information between the two as anything more than coincidence. One’s character strengths could potentially correlate with overall well-being, as long as one knows how to use these character strengths and embraces them. “The strengths that are most connected to well-being are well factored by mood.” -(Gillham) Some of the key strengths tested...

VIA Survey Of Character Strengths

...a Daly Reflection #2 Albeit long, the VIA Survey of Character Strengths was quite interesting. I had done several kinds of strength finders or personality tests and tried to not steer my answers in any direction. My top 5 strengths were kindness, fairness, leadership, caution, and forgiveness. Kindness, fairness and forgiveness weren’t very surprising to me. I love live a life working for a bigger cause than myself and to show everyone the respect they deserve. I was surprised the most was leadership. Not that I do not see myself as a leader, because I think anyone has the capabilities of leadership but in all my previous strength finders or even Myers-Brigg my results never strike people as leader. This was a pleasant surprise the reassured...

Weakness

...“The child is father to the man” –HORACE MANN The fact that a person may have a weakness may build up much insecurity to start breeding wickedness because they are missing that strength inside of them. It may break them or make them feel angry towards a person that shows success in life. Especially, if it’s in the area, in which the person, can’t strengthen their weakness. In my teaching, this semester with my internship I had a fire brigade silent an alarm without doing the proper procedures in which she should had made a perimeter check of the building. Before she had acknowledged the alarm before making sure, there was any problem. I had to approach her about this situation due to the fact I’m the fire safety director of the building. Her excuse was that she didn’t understand the training, but she knew that button would be silent the system so that the fire department wouldn’t come. If the fire department had come on the premises, she would have to explain to them the cause in which she had little knowledge of what to do. So with that said, you build a child strong he will be good. I wasn’t producing enough knowledge to her to do well. Her wickedness came from weakness in not knowing proper procedures in which she could think of cost someone their life. I truly believe this quote a lot of bad things happen in life because of people weakness. If we could find a way to build our children to be strong and not to have a bad soul in their body, they would be good. Someone could...

Three Strengths

...Three Strengths Essay Everyone has personal strengths that they utilize on the daily basis. In life we encounter experiences that help us identify our strengths as individuals. In the past, I’ve had several job experiences that tested what I believe to be are my greatest strengths. I believe each of these strengths speak to my character and will provide me with boundless opportunities in the future. One of my greatest strengths is my ability to be well-organized at all times. Growing up, I always lived in a very well put together household. Observing my moms need to keep the house spick-and-span, I picked up on her tidy habits. Everything in my room has a place which makes it easy to find something when it is needed. Being organized not only makes things appear nice but it also plays a huge role in productivity. It’s astounding how much more work you can get done when you don’t have to waste time scrambling looking for things. As a watch specialist at Fossil, it was my responsibility to re-merchandise all of the watch displays throughout the store. This entailed me having to pull all the previous seasons’ watches from the floor, separating them by style, counting and comparing them to the inventory list, and finally, restocking the new watches for the current floor-set. While these tasks may not have been complicated, it was extremely time consuming. Luckily, being organized is what helped me to accomplish my assignment in a timely fashion. This particular characteristic...

Superhumans

...Good morning to my lovely English Language teacher and all my friends. On this lovely day, I am going to share with you about a topic, “SUPERHUMANS”. Sounds ‘super’ doesn’t it? The word “super” will definitely lead our minds to “Super heroes”. Names like Thor, Ironman and Batman appear in our head. Why do you think we admire these characters? Simple; their superpowers. The fact that we don’t have their amazing capabilities makes us interested in them. Just imagine, I can create complex equations, or ___________ have super strength. Or maybe ________ talk to animals. A human’s desire to have superpowers just gets stronger every day. Believe it or not, super heroes do exist. But of course, these people are humans like us and don’t wear a costume like most superheroes. They go by the name “superhumans”. Superhuman can mean a better human, or as what humans might become in the future. Occasionally, it could mean an otherwise "normal" human with unusual abilities, such as psychic abilities meaning they can read people’s minds, unimaginable strength or exceptional accuracy at something, far beyond the normal capabilities of us, the normal humans. Scientists discovered that most of these super abilities are probably genetic or naturally born, and they might also have some malfunction in their system. A good malfunction that is. For instance, naturally born super human Kim Peek, who has eidetic memory, meaning he has super memory since birth. He memorized 98% of the 12,000 books...

Compare and Contrast Beowulf and King Authur

...Marlene Zinnah December 11, 2013 ENG 205 Prof: Tara Lesko Heroes have been dominant characters who sacrifice themselves for others in order to teach a lesson. The major theme is the triumph of goodness over evil. Beowulf and King Arthur, the epic heroes of grand tales, stand out for all that is good, brave and proper, while the villains stand for evil. However during the course of the stories the two heroes die tragically in a triumphant battle over vice and evil the course of the tale. The characters only perish after the evil is vanquished and destroyed. Sir Thomas Mallory brings forth a courageous character King Arthur, utilizing weaponry and leadership, to enlighten the kingdom of the unique characteristics of a true hero While Beowulf depicts the Anglo-Saxon era to tell a story of one who fights to better society. It is a known fact that heroes over time and overseas all heroes have something in common; which is true in the case of King Arthur and Beowulf. It is obvious that they are similar in the fact that they are both heroes, but what makes them an idol of their time and in their culture are poles apart. There are many things that are different about Beowulf and King Arthur, but the ones that stand out the most are what kind of hero they are and what actions they did to make them heroic. Both heroes possess qualities that others do not have, but it is what they do with those abilities that prompts someone to write a story about them and idolize them in time. ...

In order to get a brief idea of the possible results, a literature review of some of the previous papers on similar topics was done. We designed our experiment based on CCRD, but due to time constraints and the shortage of raw material we had to use the full factorial method to vary parameters of our experiments. Introduction Polyvinyl chloride, commonly abbreviated PVC, is the third-most widely produced plastic after polyethylene and polypropylene. PVC is used in construction because it is more effective than traditional materials such as copper, iron or wood in pipe and profile applications. Its properties are often modified (it can be made softer and more flexible) by the...

Sir Gawain Versus Beowulf

...Beowulf Strength can be described as the audacity to fight until the last breath. In the case of both Sir Gawain and Beowulf these were the ideals that these men followed. In the poems Sir Gawain and The Green Knight and Beowulf, the main characters, Sir Gawain and Beowulf, show the physical attribute of strength and valor. However, Sir Gawain and Beowulf are different in the form of strength and qualities. One represented a king who fought for the people and the other who showed loyalty towards the kingship. Beowulf was regarded as an ideal hero by the Anglo Saxon community. The main trait that regards him as the perfect hero was his courage and strength that he shows at the very end of his life. Beowulf shows his physicality throughout the story. "Beowulf, Higlac follower and the strongest of the Geats - greater and stronger than anyone anywhere in the world"(Beowulf 46). This quote exemplifies the fact that Beowulf is considered the best warrior in the region. He is also considered by many people to have superhuman abilities and superhuman strength when he ferociously rips the arm off of Grendel in the poem. Beowulf portrays the ideals of an epic hero as well as the elements of Germanic tribes which gave him super human strength and super human qualities. He is also " A man of great strength " (Helen web). This also reinstates the detail that shows the agile nature in Beowulf and also physical toughness of him as a whole. As a result, Beowulf is a sign of strength and valor...

Password Strength Is Not Password Security

...Password Strength is not Password Security Kevin Marino November 11, 2013 MSCC697, Regis University Professor Garcia Password Strength is not Password Security When password security becomes the topic of conversation it generally focuses on how strong a password is and whether or not the user reuses a password across multiple sites. While these aspects can affect password security, there are certain measures that the server side of the authentication process can implement to increase security without the user changing their habits. This approach would solve many of the security problems that authentication servers are facing. The goal of this study is to determine a set of best practices that can be implemented to increase security without the intervention of the user. While passwords may not be around forever, due to the introduction of new authentication hardware, they will be around until one of these hardware become mainstream and readily available to the general public. These practices will offer greater security until that time comes. User authentication in today's world generally requires a user name and a password. Though the strength of the user's password is generally seen as the base line for security, the authenticating server can implement certain security measures that can compensate for weak passwords. One main factor for considering different security measures is the advancement of brute force attack techniques...
