...In Plato’s Apology Socrates is being tried by Anytus and Meletus for two new charges: “corrupting the young, and not acknowledging the gods of the city acknowledges, but new daimonic activities instead” (Morgan 2005, 51). Throughout Plato’s Apology and Euthyphro Socrates uses complex rhetoric to challenge the charges brought against him based on his thoughts and understanding of what is right and wrong. He never once states he is not guilty nor does he provide reasons to support his innocence. He suggests rather that he is on a divine mission stating “this is what the god orders me to do, and I think there is no greater blessing for the city than my service to the god” (Morgan 2005, 55). Socrates uses his trial as an opportunity to show inconsistencies in the charges themselves, through questioning his accusers. Socrates remains true to him-self, a philosopher, and finds fulfillment out of the process rather than the outcome “…for the unexamined life is not worth living for men…” (Morgan 2005, 60) Socrates should be found guilty as his intentions to continue to practice the life of a philosopher may not have been morally wrong, his methods however unlawful during Athenian times. Socrates was not a member of a modern day society where innovative thought was encouraged, and freedom of speech tolerated. He chose to be a member of Athenian society therefore needed to conform to the requirements set out by the city. Suggesting other God’s and questioning the Gods of the city do not...

...Should Teens be charged as adults? For a country where freedom is heavily advertised, the United States sure does love to lock people away in jail, especially teens. Did you know that the U.S sends more kids to die in jail than any other country and the U.S also has the highest incarceration rate in the world? What does our country have against teens and why are teens often punished more harshly than adults? Often in our “free” nation, teens are charged as adults and i personally see that as unfair. There are many reasons why this is unfair and some of those reasons include; Studies on teen brains showing they lose a massive amount of brain tissue during that time in their life, many kids grow up in poverty and there is no other choice and...

...ability to have multiple meanings, including positive meanings, graffiti is by definition a crime of vandalism. No matter how many people are in favor of graffiti in modern times, it is still illegal. The punishments for graffiti will vary depending on a variety of factors which can include things such as the cost to repair damages and how the province decides to handle graffiti crime. As per California Code, Penal Code - PEN § 594, graffiti is described as anything that, “includes any unauthorized inscription, word, figure, mark, or design, that is written, marked, etched, scratched, drawn, or painted on real or personal property”. On top of this, depending on the repair costs, in California a person found guilty of graffiti vandalism can be charged with time in jail, a fine, or both....

...Should Juvenile Be Charged as Adults in Criminal Cases? Robert Horn Post University The purpose of the Adult Criminal Justice system is to punish offenders according to the severity of the crime committed. The juvenile justice system’s aim is to rehabilitate or mentor the juvenile offenders, in the hope that they can prevent further crimes, and to change their behavior. The motivating principle of the juvenile system is rehab. The reason for this is because juveniles are not fully developed, mentally or physically. Many Juvenile offenders come from broken homes, been abused, or come from bad neighborhoods. Juvenile offenders need a second chance, because they have not even received a first chance. Rehabilitation is the best option for them because of the way they would be exploited and turned into criminals if they were sent directly to prison. If given the chance, the Juvenile Justice System can aid in successfully rehabilitating youthful offenders so they are not inclined to commit future crimes. With this reasoning, juveniles cannot be blamed or accountable for their actions the same way adults are. The Justice System fulfills and important function by establishing standards of conduct. It defines what is right and wrong for people and removes them from the responsibility of taking vengeance out on those who wronged them, which deters the escalation of feuds in the community. The Justice System also...

...Man charged with murder in shooting death of transgender women On January 29 Carlton Champion was arrested in Texas for allegedly shooting and killing Tyrone Underwood. Tyrone Underwood or Ty as she went by was a transgender woman who was found dead in her car after being shot three times at 2:45am in the 400 block of West 24th street on January 28th. Officers were dispatched to an apparent car accident but found Tyrone dead caused by shooting not by the car accident. Tyrone did not die immediately she drove down the street hitting some curbs until she went into a yard and hit a utility pole. Tyler officers have electronic evidence of Tyrone and Carlton texting back and forth about meeting up. The evidence made Carlton their first suspect on the murder. Champion was initially arrested on a warrant from Gregg County for a parole violation and was transferred there on February 3rd, authorities said. He was served Monday with a warrant on the murder charge and will be brought back to Tyler once the details are worked out. I believe that Carlton killed Tyrone because they were initially dating. Figured that Tyrone did not mention to Carlton that he was transgender which caused Carlton to outrage and get mad at the fact that Tyrone was a man. They had only been dating for a while so Carlton had no idea she was transgender. I believe Carlton got mad and shot Tyrone for lying and for being a man. Many men are too scared to love a “man” because thats not right in society's eyes...

...Should Juveniles be Charged and Sentenced (including the death penalty) as adults? This is a very serious issue to me because we are talking about children. I do not believe children should be charge with the death penalty; the reason for this is some children are influenced and coerced by adults. The child is scared because he or she has been threatened by an adult to commit a crime. Adults prey on children that are vulnerable for example, no father in the home, the lack of finances and attention by their parents so they seek other alternatives. The child gets involved with the wrong people who make the child feel wanted and supplies them financially, and that’s when trouble begins. The child is intrigued by the offers and some go willingly due to their circumstances they experience at home. Juveniles should not be charged and sentenced (including the death penalty) as adults....

...On some Wednesday, Ronnie Midget Junior died of internal bleeding. The cause was abuse by his father, Ronnie Midget. Aside from child abuse, courts have determined whether or not Ronnie Midget was charged with first or second-degree murder. First-degree murder is where the person charged intended the murder. Second-degree murder is when the person is killed but did not mean to kill the victim. I believe that Ronnie Midget was charged with first-degree murder. This can be proven Ronnie Midget's and Sherry's statement and also Ronnie Midget Junior's autopsy. During the case, Ronnie Midget stated that he never meant to kill Ronnie Midget Junior, but rather continue the abuse. With that said, Ronnie Midget would probably have been charged with child abuse and second-degree murder. Ronnie Midget should have known at one point that Ronnie Midget Junior would die from long, continuous abuse. Since Ronnie Midget continued anyways, he most likely really did have an intention of killing Ronnie Midget Junior. Out of fear, the poor child never even reported his abuse. He was always tired from and lied about, his father's abuse....

... Determine the variables that affect how charged bodies interact. Predict how charged bodies will interact. Describe the strength and direction of the electric field around a charged body. Use free-body diagrams and vector addition to help explain the interactions What is Electric Field? Electric Field is the force experienced by a charge divided by the value of the charge. The direction of the electric field is given by the direction of the force a positive charge will experience when placed at that location. Electric Field lines represent the electric field visually. At any point on an electric field line, the electric field direction is tangent to that line. Where the lines are closest together, the field is the strongest. Electric field lines always point away from positive charges and toward negative charges. Therefrore, positive charges will move in the direction of the field; negative charges will move opposite the electric field. The following activity is an exploration of Electric Fields. Questions: 1. Why do charged particles move apart? What controls how fast they move? Test your ideas using Electric Field Hockey in the Practice mode. Record your observations about what affects the direction and speed of the puck. Your observations should demonstrate that you have run controlled tests with all the variables. As the puck gets closer to a charged particle, the attraction or repulsion power increases...

Unbeknownst to either Mel or Brent, Herb had died of a heart attack an hour before Mel fired the bullets. 1. Are Mel and/or Brent guilty of: a. Murder? Discuss. In this particular scenario, I would not find it plausible to charge Mel with murder since Herb died from a heart attack prior to being shot by Mel. If Herb was still alive at the time, then Mel should be charged with homicide. b. Attempted murder? Discuss. Mel and Brent should be charged with attempted murder. Despite Mel having a mental disorder, his attempt to murder Herb was pre-meditated; he formulated a plan to kill Herb. Brent should also be charged with attempted murder because he wanted to be a part of killing Herb, even if it was unbeknownst to Mel. c. Conspiracy to commit murder? Discuss. Mel should not be charged with a conspiracy to commit murder because he had no knowledge of Brent being part of his plan to kill Herb. Brent however, should be charged with a conspiracy to commit murder because he was fully aware of the situation, and wanted to help aid Mel to kill Herb. 2. Does Mel have a defense of insanity? Discuss. Mel does not...

...Chapter 20 – Static Electricity Electrostatics – the study of electrical charges that can be collected and held in one place. - A charged object shows electrical effects. - Identical objects charged the same way repel each other. - Objects charged differently attract. - Benjamin Franklin names the two states of charge positive and negative. - Charge states for material such as vinyl and hard rubber are negative, while materials like fur, glass, and wool are positive. - Normal matter contains both charges, positive and negative. Charges are created in pairs, and actions such as rubbing in some way separates the two. - Scientists do not fully understand all the details of how two objects rubbed together become charged, but they know that when 2 different objects, like rubber and fur, are rubbed together, electrons from atoms on the fur are transferred t the rubber. - Charges are not created but separated. - Electrons can be removed from or added to atoms. Examples: - Friction between tires of a moving car and the road can cause the tires to become charged - Violent winds cause friction in thunderclouds that separate charges. Tops of clouds are positive, the bottoms negative Conductors and Insulators [pic]- Materials through which charges will not move easily are called electrical insulators. Charges stay where they are put. - Charges removed from one area on an insulator are not replaced by charges from another area. Examples: ...
