...A Battle Against Cheating When students were at middle school, they were told that the only way to gain success was through hard working. As a student, you should work hard to get good a grade. As an employee, you should work hard to get a promotion. This is a classic American dream: as long as you work hard, you can always achieve your dream no matter what backgrounds you come from. However, reality seems to be disappointed. Working hard is not the only way to get ahead any more. Those who work much harder seem to be less successful than those who work less hard but know how to play tricks. Cheating is a secret weapon that could make you move forward. It is becoming more common, tempting and covert than it was fifty years ago. It is the time to hold our remaining virtues to fight against unethical behaviors. We should identify factors that have led to the phenomenon of cheating and then seek effective ways to conquer it. In their book Final Accounting, Toffler and Reingold (2003) talked about how the world once greatest accounting firm Arthur Andersen cheated together with its clients to mislead investors and eventually collapsed after being disclosed many astounded accounting scandals of the firm. Toffler and Reingold (2003) pointed out that people tend to blame such cheating scandals to a few bad individuals. Whereas, it is the culture that should take the responsibility. It is the corrupting culture that makes cheating an attractive way to get what you want (p.204)...

...1. Discuss whether or not CPAs who provide accounting, taxation, and related services to small business have a responsibility to serve as the “moral conscience” of their clients. The accounting profession requires ethical behavior in order to maintain the public trust. Ethical problems and dilemma arise when there is a conflict in fulfilling the moral duties or obligations and self interest. Therefore the CPA and public accountants are required to act in the line with the standards and code of ethics. According to the Utilitarian theory the action is considered as ethical if it results in achieving the greatest good to the maximum number of people. The AICPA principle of professional conduct requires that members should act with responsibility, in public Interest, objectively and independently, with integrity and due care towards the professional and technical standards to deliver the quality services. A profession is considered as a group of specialized people who posses skill based upon their impenetrable knowledge and thus they are expected to act in the best interest of public. According to the IFAC code, the responsibility of the professional accountant is not to satisfy the needs of the employer or the client but to serve the public interest. Adhering to the above expectations and professional requirements, the CPAs should serve as the moral conscience of their clients. When the CPAs come across any activity of the client which is not ethical they should discuss the...

...Mari Pearlman in the LA Times, “Cheating in School Reflects Basic Confusion in Society” explains that parents are showing kids that it is acceptable to cheat yet still ask the teachers to tell their students that it is not. Pearlman is generally speaking about the parents who cheat on income taxes or even taking supplies from their workplace and using them at home. This essay will cover examples on how parents cheat and what to do to prevent them from them thinking it is acceptable to cheat. Cheating has always been a problem since education started but the epidemic has just gotten worse over the years especially with technology advancing. Students do not even need their textbooks anymore they can simply look for it online. With the touch of a few buttons children can simply type in some words and find all the answers to their homework and instead of actually learning the material they copy it. Technology is not the only thing to blame it is also the parents or any mentor a child looks up to that can affect the way they learn....

...Associate Level Material Deductive Reasoning Argument 1 Trainer or Cleaner John is the owner of a gym with approximately five trainers on his payroll. Only a few of those trainers are considered full-time employees. Chris, one of these full-time personal trainers, is well liked by his clients and he consistently has a full schedule. Between clients and even before this gym opens, Chris tries to make sure the gym is clean. He washes down equipment, cleans bathrooms, and ensures the general appearance of magazine baskets looks good. As a full-time trainer; however, Chris has his hands full and after months of pitching in and working to keep the gym clean, he’s frustrated. He discovers his boss, John, no longer cleans because he assumes Chris will. Chris feels taken advantage of and wants John to recognize his role as a trainer first. He also wants John to consider the extra work cleaning involves. He is arguing for a raise or at least, special compensation for the cleaning should he continue it. For now, though, he is “on strike” from cleaning. He presents his findings to John who is not yet ready to compromise. ...Cheating on Unemployment This article informs readers of the nearly 10.2 million people that take advantage of unemployment benefits and how routinely unemployment is being distributed on a daily basis. They are unfortunately many different ways people cheat on unemployment one instance mentioned in the article was an employee who quit and had her boss claim she was fired. Another type of fraud is when employee’s work the minimum time required to work to get the unemployment benefits then purposely getting fired and then collecting unemployment until it runs out and then they do this process all over again. The article goes on to state that the government is doing what they can with trying to catch those who are committing this type of fraud but there is no way to catch every last cheater which can be the employee and the employer. This is exactly why there needs to be government invollvement like we discussed in class this week. The government sets the guidelines and rules for umemployment compensation - but it is up to employees and employers to be honest. As we mentioned in our discussion, President Obama, extended the umployment benefits which is viewed as very costly employers since it even raises their taxes and yet appreiated by employees. We also discussed how much government involvement would be best and from looking over the threaded disscussions from the class I think the majority of us...

...Gogol wanted to focus on – the greedy nature of Russian society. As mentioned previously, a dead peasant ultimately represents a loss for any landowner because a dead peasant literally cannot produce anything, while the landowner must still pay taxes on them. From a purely logical and financial standpoint, it would be in one’s best interest to find a way to rid themselves of ownership of these dead souls. The fact that Chichikov is willing to pay for these dead souls, when they should just be given away for free, indicates the value of the deal Chichikov is offering to the landowners. Yet the landowners hesitate to accept this deal and attempt to bargain...

...Neutralization is when a person denies or justifies there acts, no matter how deviant their acts are (McIntyre 2014). When people who are guilty of a crime are taken to jail and put into a trial, they typically deny the fact that they did the crime, but when they are “proven” that they had committed the crime they would typically justify it. In some cases, some offenders would establish as their crime as necessary (Benson 2014). This usually happens when they are aware of their act but they want to justify it with other facts to make it seem less deviant. According to Benson, 95% of the people “cheat” on their taxes even for ten dollars (2014). At this point, it probably will be a more. Mores are any type of deviance but not causal (McIntyre...

...Ethical Issues – Bill Services There are many ethical issues going on with Bill that will affect his business and our firm legally and financially. Here are some of the issues: 1) He is planning on filing for divorce. His wife, Rotunda is a large and violent woman who has spent every penny Bill has made over the years. She has a moustache, missing a few front teeth and generally not a nice person. Ethical issues: Bill and Rotunda’s marriage seemed to change after the birth of their last child. Rotunda’s personality changed and she even put on extra weight. Rotunda continued to spend every penny of her husband’s hard earned money. Ethically, he has every right to want to file for divorce. Bill using the fact that she has a moustache and missing teeth are not a factor here. The mention of Rotunda being violent could be an issue as the divorce proceedings are under way. Choosing to divorce a person should be based on something that isn’t going quite right. You do not need to have a specific reason at all to request a divorce, but most states do have the option of using one of the grounds for divorce as your reason. Having one of these reasons can help your case, but if the two of you are not happy, then a no fault divorce would be the way to go. You are both on level ground and can go your separate ways without your record being tarnished. Choosing to get a divorce is not always an easy decision for...

...Philippine politics Philippine politics now a day are full of corruption, cheating and full of shit. And at this world now elections are controlled by the people who have a lot of money also controlling the election by scaring other people. And that I can say that money is a powerful things in this world. Because of corruption Many rich people in the Philippines lack social responsibility, poor people have been conditioned that they do not have the resources required to help themselves or that change for the better is not possible since these are how things have been done ever since. It has always been this way with many political administrations in the past to the present. Limited development opportunities and options and living daily on a survival mode also breed negative attitudes such as “bahala na”, “kapit sa patalim” (living on the edge), and crab mentality (pulling others down in an effort to go ahead). I do salute and idolize Mr Marcos because of his ability to change the. Should I say world? Or people? Because of his era I can see that the people is full of respect on their own way. Yes., there’s always a corruption in terms of politics but now there’s a big difference mga gahaman at nasisilaw ang mga tao sa pera. ...MEMO TO: Professor Michael E. Rychel FROM: Harmanpreet Kaur DATE: March 26 2014 SUBJECT: Difference between tax evasion, tax avoidance, and tax fraud? The times when taxes were first imposed on American Citizens, from that day people have been trying to find different ways to escape from taxes. While some taxpayers continue to find legal ways to avoid taxes on the other hand some choose to evade taxes, or not to pay at all. Three ways to avoid taxes are tax evasion, tax avoidance, and tax fraud. The distinguishes are: Tax Evasion It is an illegal practice where a person, organization, or corporation intentionally avoids paying their tax liability. However, typically tax evasion schemes involves an individual or corporation misrepresenting their income to the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). Misrepresentation may take the form either of under reporting income, inflating deductions, or can be hiding money, and its interest altogether in offshore accounts. Individuals who are involved in illegal enterprise often engage in tax evasion because reporting their original incomes would serve as an admission of guilt and could result in criminal charges. A party which can also try to report these earning as coming from a legitimate source can face serious charges. In the United States, tax evasion constitutes a crime that may have been given rise to substantial monetary, imprisonment, or both. Some of the examples of Tax Evasion are: In 2002 James Traficant, was convicted...

...the ethical standards, and only focused on the achievement of their financial goal. After a few employees began cheating on their works, the only way to beat these persons was to cheat more. Gradually, no persons felt shame about cheating because they had no other choices and all their co-workers surrounding them were cheating. This caused a culture of deception. Employees were measured on their abilities to cheat. In such an environment, the people who never cheated were regarded as odd. For example, Margaret Ceconi, an employee with Enron Energy Service, once wrote a memo about the truth of accounting issues of Enron; she was later counseled on employee morale * Because of competition in workplace between employees. Competition environment can cause mistakes and cheating because employees don't tend to cooperative and less communicated with each other. They become selfish. Even they don't ask questions for each other because asking the question was regarded as a weak. Then, they will not share resources or information with each other because of competition. So in Enron, no persons asking questions and no one want to answer questions. Because of this working environment, few employees at Enron actually understood their jobs. As a result, they just tried to hide errors and made their work look good. In addition, they ignored the errors and cheatings of others. They never mentioned their doubts about others’ works. Because they thought if others were not actually...
