The main purpose of this article is to address the problem of “explosive” behaviour among young children. The author emphasis on strategies that can help to reinforce positive behaviour in all students to recognise and prevent such behaviours.
The authors basic assumptions is that preschool and early elementary grades school should identify patterns of violence disruption in young children before they develop into “explosive” behaviour. Also these schools should provide children with social skills in early elementary school. However the schools are not proactive in recognizing and preventing violent behaviour when it Happens in the early stages but they are reactive.
The author’s evidence provided in supporting his purpose are the scenario used describing the “explosive” behaviour of a boy named “Andy”. “Many elementary teachers and principal spent a considerable amount of time addressing different forms of violent behaviour.” “Dr. Ross Greene, author of the “Explosive Child” suggest effective ways of recognizing and dealing with violent behaviour. The writer’s reasons to achieve his purpose are principals and teachers of elementary and preschools are not proactive in dealing with violent behaviours at the early stage. Another possible reason are of societal and family factors as well as an increase of psychiatric disorders.
The author achieves his purpose well enough by giving an example or scenario to explain the seriousness of violent behaviours in children. The writer also supported his purpose by identifying leading expert in child psycology who recommends mechanisms to recognize and prevent violent traits before they manifest. He further achieve his purpose by outlining strategies to foster and reinforce positive behaviour in all students to curb the problem of violent behaviour.
