Introduction
In this essay paper I have given a critical analysis on entertainment content designed for children especially those under the age of 18 and its impact on them. In fact, media’s presence has been ubiquitous in the children’s lives hence being the prolific contributor of all forms of teenage problems. Some of the online web sites entails of information for children that may be destructive if not well guided by their parents. Parental guidance is very much important especially for these young people because without their intervention, the children’s future will be no more (Knobloch 123). Increasing technology has been a nightmare in most developed states in the world such as the United States whereby children have got six hours daily with media. It has been realized that children’s media consumption contributes to high degree of negativity than the otherwise. The following may serve as one of the web site for children entertainment.
Children and television The television as one of the viewing sites is very much important towards the child’s cognitive development and lots of learning in different fields such as cultures, geography among many others. It can be entertaining and educational as it enables learners to scope critical information from tender ages. However, the contrary can also prove that kids might learn dirty information that may lead wanting behaviors and negative ways of life. Indeed the television has got a big influence especially under the age of 13 whereby it plays an important role of behavior and cognitive development in general. At age eight the viewing of television is very high because this is the period of learning and deep mastery of some information viewed. For example as per some research it is clear that 71% of children under 18 own television sets in their bedrooms. This is where they get to watch lots of programs that are seemingly destructive. Further, the dynamic media technology enables children to access television content through so many ways. For example these may include; iPods, cell phones and internet. This has facilitated the watching hence, increasing the number of hours set aside for such viewing. Equally, the viewing comes along with lots of challenges that become difficult to handle based on their tender ages. For instance for the recent years, the pediatrics academy in America raised an alarm over its concerns about the time spent by children in watching televisions and the potentiality of the content viewed. Time spent in media programs is considered as destructive because of how it impacts on the child’s well-being and mannerisms. As much as it might enhance and promote some positive aspects of social behavior, it equally entails lots of health and mental effects to children. In fact, vulnerability of children and adolescents is quite high as their perceptions and behaviors are influenced by the strong messages attained from the viewing. Further, the major problem is that these youngsters may not differentiate from what they watch and real life situations. All these have been noted via poor academic performance, aggressiveness, drug abuse, sexuality and violence among many others (Soledad et al 137). For instance as per the recent studies found that one fourth of all television videos portrayed high degree of violence and some situations of weapon carrying. This translates to imitation of what is being viewed. Even the news channeled on some of these televisions might be disturbing thus leading to children’s nightmares. Also large numbers of references to drug abuse, cigarette smoking and alcohol count to how much destructive these programs are in terms of behavior and mental development of children. This has been confirmed by analyzing the number of children and teens taking or consuming alcohol as an act of what they normally watch in televisions. Unfortunately, there are no enough data to justify the fully impact of such an exposure to the young people. Finally, the description of use of advertisements on the website shows clear descriptions on how it is placed, its formats among many others. In fact, the way most advertisements are done in these televisions to some point it is somehow devastating and disgusting especially for the young brains. For example advertising some alcoholic drinks like whisky and bear will be accompanied by some pictorial elements that tend to attract most teens towards discoveries of what is exactly behind the curtains (Villani 392). The formats are suggestively placed with shouting scenes and that can be easily accessed. They normally bring the adverts as per the programmed schedules which are rejuvenated by some “bumpers” such as announcements before they are back at the program. These ads are there to break the boredom of running programs and only to down look on the tempting advertisement. Equally, all these ads to some point impact negatively on especially the young generations which tend to boost their capacity of internalization and anxiety of wanting to know. This has a very tremendous impact on the young teens’ general behaviors and performance of and more so based on the children in their entire world.
