...History is the study of the human past as it is described in the written documents left by human beings. It is the body of knowledge about the past produced by historians, together with everything that is involved in the production, communication of, and teaching about that knowledge. Historiography is the study of how history itself is written or handed down throughout the ages. It takes into consideration the various means by which a historical source is formed, such as the credibility of the sources used, the motives of the author composing the history, and its authenticity. A primary source is a document or physical object which was written or created during the time under study. These sources were present during an experience or time period and offer an inside view of a particular event. Some types of primary sources include: • original documents (excerpts or translations acceptable): diaries, speeches. • creative works: poetry, drama, novels, music, art • relics or artefacts: pottery, furniture, clothing, buildings Examples of primary sources include: • Diary of Anne Frank - Experiences of a Jewish family during WWII • The Constitution of Canada - Canadian History A secondary source interprets and analyzes primary sources. These sources are one or more steps removed from the event. Secondary sources may have pictures, quotes or graphics of primary sources in them. Some types of secondary sources include: • publications: Textbooks, magazine articles, histories...

Page semi-protected Historia by Nikolaos Gysis (1892) Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it.[1] —George Santayana History (from Greek ἱστορία - historia, meaning "inquiry, knowledge acquired by investigation"[2]) is the discovery, collection, organization, and presentation of information about past events. History can also mean the period of time after writing was invented. Scholars who write about history are called historians. It is a field of research which uses a narrative to examine and analyse the sequence of events, and it sometimes attempts to investigate objectively the patterns of cause and effect that determine events.[3][4] Historians debate the nature of history and its usefulness. This includes discussing the study of the discipline as an end in itself and as a way of providing "perspective" on the problems of the present.[3][5][6][7] The stories common to a particular culture, but not supported by external sources (such as the legends surrounding King Arthur) are usually classified as cultural heritage rather than the "disinterested investigation" needed by the discipline of history.[8][9] Events of the past prior to written record are considered prehistory. Amongst scholars, the 5th-century BC Greek historian Herodotus is considered to be the "father of history", and, along...

...How do you know you have validated a research study based on data gathered from primary or secondary sources? Have you been involved with any product test-marketing project? Explain. How did the resulting statistics affect the product’s marketing strategy? How can organizations skew the statistical outcomes of their business research? When searching for information on a topic, it is important to understand the value of primary, secondary, and tertiary sources. Primary sources allow researchers to get as close as possible to original ideas, events, and empirical research as possible. Such sources may include creative works, first hand or contemporary accounts of events, and the publication of the results of empirical observations or research. Secondary sources analyze, review, or summarize information in primary resources or other secondary resources. Even sources presenting facts or descriptions about events are secondary unless they are based on direct participation or observation. Moreover, secondary sources often rely on other secondary sources and standard disciplinary methods to reach results, and they provide the principle sources of analysis about primary sources. Tertiary sources provide overviews of topics by synthesizing information gathered from other resources. Tertiary resources often provide data in a convenient form or provide information with context by which to interpret it. The distinctions between primary, secondary, and tertiary sources can...

...Bahria University | People and Organization Assignment Topic: literature review and Research methodology | Submitted to: Sir, Musarrat Khan | | MBA 5-A | | Literature review: Market concentration is one of the major trends in retailing. Large companies grow faster than average, often because of consolidation (domestically). But domestic expansion opportunities are limited. Therefore, internationalization is another possibility to grow and become more competitive (Hermann et al., 2010). In the intensely competitive retail market, sustaining repeat buying behaviour among store customers is one of the most important competition challenges. There are several reasons for that. Food Marketing Institute (2001) found that customers spend on average 78% of their food expenditures at one primary store. Furthermore, obtaining new customers costs five to six times more than retaining current customers (Huddleston et al., 2004). Other benefits resulting from customer loyalty include the likelihood that customers increase their spending over time, and attracting new customers by word-of-mouth marketing (Curasi, Kennedy, 2002). Thus, retail managers perceive customer loyalty and satisfaction as well as customer retention to be the most important goals for sustaining a firm’s competitive position (Huddleston et al., 2004). Dick and Basu (1994) defined customer loyalty as the relationship between relative attitude toward a brand and a repeat patronage...

...Tiara Badie @02732463 October 26, 2015 Essay 2 Rough Draft Years ago, when kingdoms still existed and democracy was just beginning to form, there were not many options for recording important events. There were no iPhones, Google, or Google maps to tell people what happened or where it happened. Most information was passed orally or by scribes. Historians such as the Deuteronomistic History (DtrH), Herodotus and Thucydides were around to explain the events around them. All three of these historians are similar and different in the content of their stories and they way they told them. They are similar because they all helped to give accounts of what was said and done during the time period that they are writing about; for DtrH that time period was the 6th century fall of Jerusalem and the Babylonian exile while for Thucydides it was the Peloponnesian war, and Herodotus the 5th century origins of the Greco- Persian wars. As similar as they are, they also share differences. Herodotus on is known as the “Father of lies,” while Thucydides is known for “setting a standard for scope, concision, and accuracy,” and DtrH is known as “not just a historian, but an author, adapting, arranging and creating material.” All three authors, DtrH, Herdotus, and Thucydides make use of speeches and rhetorical motifs to explain history as they saw it. The use of speeches dramatizes history because it adds dimension to the events. Other than just saying what happened, it adds credibility and interest...
