...CIA WORLD FACTBOOK The CIA World Factbook is a reference resource produced by the Central Intelligence Agency of the United States with almanac-style information about the countries of the world. The website’s main page states that their goal as to provide information on the history, people, government, economy, geography, communications, transportation, military, and transnational issues for 267 world entities. The CIA itself is a faction of the United States of America operating as an independent US Government agency responsible for providing national security intelligence to senior US policy makers. The website provides a broad range of information about most countries including but not limited to geographic conditions, social/ political climate, economic status and military advancement. Each country has a detailed portfolio of original information as well as brief comparisons to American states and landmarks for better comprehension of the scale and size of countries/ regions. I found the website’s information particularly helpful and informative in providing social context to countries that I was familiar with personally, leading me to believe it would be a useful tool in assessing a country as far as social climate to choose the correct product/ service to market in said country. The information on the diversity and distribution of religion throughout the country is also relevant to part 1 of the term project. Religion has a massive influence on people and greatly affects...

...ASSESSMENT 1: Internationalization of Business Tutor: Dr Gabor Horvath Date of submission: 16 December 2011 University of Glamorgan Year: 2011/2012 Introduction: This report deals with the internationalization of Elecdyne, a Japanese company, based in Tokyo. Elecdyne has manufactured a broad range of electronic products since 1990. Currently, it employs 100 staff, which produces products such as mp3 players, televisions and hifi equipment. In the moment, Elecdyne supplies products only to the Japanese market; nonetheless it has failed to grow its business in the last two years. With high wages compared to other countries, lack of R&D staff and the licenses that must be paid, Elecdyne is finding it increasingly difficult to compete. Therefore, Elecdyne wishes to internationalize in another country. This report analyses three different countries (France, China, Japan) by using appropriate frameworks and data collected from different resources. I. The global environment: First, a company must understand the global environment on the industry. I decided to choose STEEP framework because it is simple, general and it permits to analyse the broad factors that have an impact on the industry (Rugman & Collinson, 2009). (Task Group Z) STEEP ANALYSIS: Social | Social networking | | Internet is a new way of communication. Companies can share and collect information about customers and competitors.Social networks like Facebook and...

...Mark Taliercio Professor Skyers 5/10/12 QU301 Why are foreign wages so low? The world is a place populated with a diverse range of individuals. Due to differing backgrounds, individuals tend to have different opinions and different viewpoints towards certain situations. As a citizen of the United States, I have been raised in a society that professes equal freedoms for everyone in the world despite race, religion, gender or any other distinct differences. I feel that no matter where you are born, you are subject to protection under the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. It is the mission of the leaders of a country to ensure to their best ability that everyone is protected under these rights, and that no one is discriminated against. An article that I feel most countries in our global community do not abide by is Article 23. A portion of this article states “Everyone has the right to work, to free choice of employment, to just and favourable conditions of work and to protection against unemployment. Everyone, without any discrimination, has the right to equal pay for equal work.” (Universal Declaration of Human Rights, 2008) In America, for the most part, we see very fair employment conditions and treatment, with specific legislation enacted that protects against discrimination or unlawful termination. As citizens of a global community it is our obligation to respect the freedoms that everyone has the right to. Without equal participation in this community it ceases...

...Executive Summary Currently, Grippy Tyres is looking for a suitable country to expand into. This report recommends Grippy Tyres to expand into Thailand, as Thailand currently is a land of opportunities for foreign investors. Thailand has many basic appeals that will attract other companies, such as a high quantity of natural resources especially rubber, as well as a prime location geographically in between Malaysia and the rest of Asia. Therefore, by expanding into Thailand, Grippy Tyres will be able to take advantage of the natural resources as well as the good location provided. Thailand is currently welcoming foreign investors into the country, along with the benefits such as reduced tax. Furthermore, the economy of Thailand has been growing steadily since 2006, and it has been forecasted that it will continue to grow. Furthermore, the government of Thailand wants an upward flow of foreign investment in order to supply it's mega-projects, and thus, this is the prime time to expand into Thailand. Although there are some difficulties right now in Thailand, such as the political state which involves the Red and Yellow Shirts, the Minister of Foreign Affairs assures other countries that they will do their best to protect the foreign companies when they expand into Thailand. Furthermore, the cultural problems involved when expanding into a different country is slightly reduced due to the fact that Thailand and Malaysia are neighbours, and thus, share some similar culture. ...

...Assignment 1: The Effects of War and Peace on Foreign Aid SOC300 – Sociology of Developing Countries Stacy Moon Dr. Roderick Linzie Bus 375 May 12, 2015 The Effects of War and Peace on Foreign Aid Malawi has made great strides sociologically through financial aid from external countries, conditionality, and democratization. Financial aid has both positive and negative effects. It can help a country get back on their feet and help them thrive, or it could help them just barely get by, creating aid dependency. N.G. Emmanuel defines aid dependency, as a country that cannot perform many of the core functions of government or delivery of basic public services without foreign aid funding and expertise. Aid dependent countries, generally, are not at fault for this dependency because they are not able to stabilize their economy because of factors like a lack of resources, location, climate, or other factors they're unable to control. 90 percent of Malawians live off of an average of $2 a day. Financial aid is aimed to improve government, food and food security, healthcare, education, and peace keeping. In order to improve food security, the World Bank donated $3.3 million in agriculture loans to grow crops and The International Monetary Fund trained 187,000 farmers to grow these crops. To aid education reforms, the U.S. invested $100,000,000. In order to keep the peace, 2000 men were trained in order to form a militia. To aid healthcare reforms, 436 doctors, nurses...

...would be most favorable as a new market. The methodology behind this Perhaps a great indicator of success in another country would be their economic state and ease of doing business. The World Bank issues an ease of doing business index which ranks economies from 1 to 183, with first place being the best. A high ranking (a low numerical rank) indicates that the regulatory environment is conducive to business operation. The index strongly favors Singapore as the strongest The second variable included in this analysis is the Population below Poverty Line Percentage. This variable could be useful to determine whether the residents of each country have the means to go out to dinner at an upscale steakhouse. The data is taken from the CIA World Factbook and are national estimates of the percentage of the population falling below the poverty line are based on surveys of sub-groups, with the results weighted by the number of people in each group. Definitions of poverty vary considerably among nations. For example, rich nations generally employ more generous standards of poverty than poor...

Other forms of sustainable economic consistency are from non-export organizations such as construction, banking, and real estate (CIA: World Factbook). Even in times of various economic trends, the country maintains its middle-class economy through the increase/decrease of the prices of their main resources. It’s from the positively consistent results that the government permits pervasive corruption and structural economic inefficiencies from these local companies to pose as an obstacle to their long-term growth. In other words, the economy of Azerbaijan is, for the most part, influenced by the local oil and gas companies due to their close connections to the government officials. That being said, it’s not uncommon for the government to expropriate, or seize control of, the international competitors who pose as a threat or a competitor to their industry. It is ranked by...

...overtime. It reveals how we among different societies have continued this patriarchal and paternalistic movement throughout the course of history ultimately with the power to the male’s advantage. So with reference to articles from the Water and Culture Reader I’d like to discuss the unjust treatment of women in Africa that is still at large. “Women perform all the labor associated with water collection at the expense of education, cultural, and political involvement, and rest and recreation” (Bouwer 321). Women literally give up everything to provide for their families. I’m not saying that this is a completely bad thing, because it’s not, it’s understandable to go above and beyond to sustain your family. My issue lies here, according to the CIA World Fact book from the 2010 census 73.2% of men and 61.2% of women in Ghana over the age of fifteen can...

...Sub-Saharan African countries, Ethiopia’s economy is mainly based on agricultural products. According to CIA World Factbook, “agriculture in Ethiopia accounts for 46.4% (2011) of the gross domestic product (GDP) and 85% of total employment.” As the major agricultural export crop in Ethiopia for many years, Coffee business contributes about one fourth of the country's foreign exchange earnings in each year, creates millions of working opportunities, supports and feeds more than 25% of the national population. Just like many third world coffee-planting countries, unfair coffee trade caused problems such as over-dependent on one single commodity, environmental damage and labor problems. In Ethiopia, coffee planters and their families have suffered poverty as a result of fluctuating coffee prices for ages. The implementation of producing and exporting Fair-trade certified coffee from Ethiopia to the United States, which, we believed, economically benefited Ethiopia in terms of contributing to export volume growth and national GDP; and only caused relatively mild reaction in the United States: a still-robust consumer demand and increasing import volume of Ethiopian Coffee. This study will mainly focus on the effects of Fair-trade coffee trade on the coffee trade between Ethiopia and the United States. Using data provided by UN Comtrade, World Data Bank and CIA World Factbook, we are going to compare some previous year’s data of Ethiopia’s coffee export volume to the U.S., Ethiopia’s...
