...undocumented students are enrolling in college, however, a lack of financial aid support appears to be counterproductive to these effects. I will provide an overview of the literature through a CRT lens. Specifically, I will dwell into an analysis of the literature through my life history experience, voice, and perspective as an undocumented student (Salazar and Bagley, 2010). I will conclude with some final thoughts concerning the educational future of undocumented students. In-state tuition policies increase the likelihood of college enrollment Findings from a recent study based on two nationally representative data sources, the...

...Case Study 3: Setting tuition and financial aid Instructor: Patricia Wiseman Managerial Economics MBA-540-MB01 Saint Leo University Sushma Madhavaram Summary: Prices are the variable property which can increase or decrease the desire of purchasing the commodity which in simple terms referred as demand. For most of the commodities if prices soar high then people purchase less good hence reducing demand in the same way if supply increases prices go down increasing demand. This basic principle is the basis for the ‘law “of demand which can be described as quantity demand plummets as prices go upward, other variable factors constant. To understand the demand and price relation economists refer demand as schedule of quantities of commodity people want to buy at various prices, other factors constant (Colander, Rockerbie, & Richter, 2006, p.73). Whereas quantity demand is referred as demand of goods at certain price in the demand curve. Ursinus College in Pennsylvania in the year 2000 increased their tuition fee 17.6% to $23,460 in order to increase college revenue and funds to support financial aid which also in turn increased their admissions (Brickley, Smith, & Zimmerman, 2009, p.110). The conjecture of college president is increase in demand is against the law of the demand because of college going student’s snob mentality and their comparison of quality with respect to price. He speculated student’s presumption of costly colleges will have better quality education...

...Pay to Play: Economic Impact of Paying College Athletes 1. Purpose of Research & Analysis On April 25, 2014, the National Labor Relations Board in Washington, D.C., granted Northwestern University's request to review the decision made by the regional office recognizing the school's football players as employees. In mid-April, Northwestern football players voted as a team on whether or not to unionize, but the votes will only be opened if the board ends up siding with the players, which may take at least a couple of months. Ultimately, the Northwestern football players are determining their fate through this secret ballot and their decision to form the first union amongst college athletes—a decision that has the ability to change the landscape of American college sports. If granted the right to unionize, the Northwestern football team will actually have the ability to bargain over their conditions and it is expected that this could ultimately lead to requesting salary compensation for their efforts. In light of these recent historic discussions, it is critical to analyze not only the ethical, but also the economic impact of such potential situations. My research paper has been structured to shed some light into the challenging and complicated discussions that continue to occur around this topic. Specifically, I have broken my research and analysis into three key topics. First, I explore whether or not there is an underlying issue with the current state, from an economic perspective...

...occupational barriers to millions of undocumented students that want to pursue a postsecondary education. The information in this research examines the impact undocumented students may have in society and the economy of this country. There are thousands of undocumented students that graduate high school every year and have no opportunities to pursue a higher education degree, thus increasing the chances of poverty in this country, increase in unemployment and a serious negative shift in the economy. Given the increase role that immigrants and their children play in American society in the coming years, it is essential to give as many young people as possible the opportunity to enroll an succeed in postsecondary education. This should push for policy makers and educators to focus on increasing immigrants’ participation in postsecondary education to ensure the long-run strength of the U.S economy. By providing legal residency or working permit as a condition to earn a degree to contribute to society it will definitely increase this nation’s economy and reduce unemployment and poverty. UNDOCUMENTED STUDENTS AND HIGHER EDUCATION The educational system in the United States offers the opportunity to millions of students to receive an education from preschool to high school free of charge through funding from the federal, state, and local government. Despite the fact there is an urge for an educational reform to improve education in the United States and increase the levels of...

...Nobody State University Tuition Universities must constantly weigh tuition pricing in relation to the cost of providing quality educational services. Determining where to set tuition pricing is an increasingly critical decision which administrators and university presidents must analyze when considering the university’s goals. Not only does the cost of tuition play a factor in student enrollment, it also provides a major revenue source to an institution. The question which universities must answer is, “What effect will raising or lowering the university’s tuition have on the total earned revenue? This paper investigates this question and reviews under what conditions a change in tuition prices will cause the revenue to rise, fall, or remain constant. Finally, applying a hypothetical tuition elasticity coefficient of demand for education value of -1.2, provides a tuition increase recommendation to the Nobody State University’s president and administration board based upon the university’s potential revenue impact. Historically, the demand for a university or college education has not reduced as prices have risen. In fact, even though prices have gone up, the number of college applicants has continued to rise. Meagan Pant writes in her article in the Tribune Business New, “The majority of Americans think college is too expensive for most people to afford -- although the widely held opinion has not hindered skyrocketing enrollment or stopped virtually all parents from expecting...

If the current stocks held in that class are underperforming the class in general, they should be sold and replaced with positions that better represents the asset class. Then purchasing patterns will be changed to add asset in the other classes that are currently not represented in your portfolio. ...Funding for Colleges and Universities: Overcoming the Lack in State Appropriations Emilee Sides Arkansas State University Abstract As higher education enrollment increases, the ability for states to provide sufficient funding to their institutions decreases. This paper will examine a variety of practices that colleges and universities can use to offset the shortage of appropriations. These courses of action include tuition increases, attempting to increase enrollment through out-of-district campaigning, finding additional charitable donations, partnering with private companies, and looking at unconventional bond issuing. Each method of fund-raising has its own advantages and disadvantages. All of these methods, along with their benefits and drawbacks will be discussed. According to the State Higher Education Executive Officers Association (2012), enrollment for colleges and universities has experienced an overall growth of 16.9 percent since 2006 and an overall growth of about 33 percent in the last ten years (p 19). While this should be good news for higher education, unfortunately, state appropriations have not matched this exciting growth in enrollment. According to the report, appropriations per FTE dropped from an all-time high in 2001 of $8,316 to $6,290 in 2011 – lower than any year since 1980. This data indicates that while school must serve a growing number of students, they have fewer resources with which to serve each individual. Obviously...

...Causes of Collapse 1. The Education Act of 1992 The Education Act of 1992 is often referred to as the main reason of the collapse of the pre-need industry. The Act deregulated the education industry and the 15% capped tuition fee increase was removed. As a result, educational institutions increased their tuition fees tremendously. Ten years after the Education Act of 1992 was enacted, the cost of a four year educational plan increased by 1200 percent. The yield on investments by the pre-need companies cannot cope up with the tuition fee increases. Consequently, pre-need companies incurred deficiency in their trust fund. 5. Independent Trustee Some of the pre-need companies' trustee were affiliates. Pacific Plans' trustee is RCBC, both are under the Yuchengco Group of Companies. CAP's trustee is Bank of Commerce, both have Sobrepeña affiliation. Ayala Plans trustee is BPI, both under Ayala Corporation, Philam Plans trsustee is Philam Savings. Cocolife trustee is UCPB; and First Union's trustee is Union Bank. There is a possibility that a collusion between these two related companies may occur. Excerpts from Congressional Planning and Budget Department House of Representatives: Collusion between pre-need companies and their affiliates could result in possible diversion of the trust fund into business ventures other than the intended investment specified by the SEC. In 2005, Senator Serge Osmena, during committee hearings, mentioned about CAP and PPI impropriety in handling...
