Colleges Should Make it Mandatory: for Students to Study Abroad for Specific Major’s Millions of students across the world every year graduate and during this time realize that seeking a job is very arduous.In a few years we(I) will be in the same situation and will also experience the difficulties of finding a job. Today’s job market for graduating students is prodigiously competitive since these graduates are not only competing for jobs with student’s from their universities or country, but with students from across the world. 97% of students who have accomplished their academic studies abroad have found a secure employment within 12 months (Stone). Colleges should make it obligatory for students in categorical majors to study abroad because it has the capacity to yield academic skills, provide gregarious and cultural benefits, and advantages in the employment field. Studying abroad has the capacity of yielding academic skills. Students will have the opportunity to experience different educational systems and ways of learning. They will find themselves challenging their own conceptions and notions once they’ve had the chance to experience an alternative perspective. Students will learn how to appreciate different cultures and solve dilemmas while operating in an environment from what they’re habituated to (Berdan). Graduates with a foreign insight have a more preponderant well-rounded education for our increasingly global world. This is so because these graduates of categorical majors will have the ability to not only attract or expand their criteria or product in highly developed countries but also in the developing countries (Sood).
There are a few universities in the United States acknowledging the importance of studying abroad programs(Stood). Although most are not very academically influential and reserved, the prestige Hazard Business School has idealized their program. “This year the Harvard Business School started sending its entire class of 900 students to learn and work overseas as part of its Global Immersion Program. Split into teams of six, this year the students worked with organisations in 10 different countries (ranging from Ghana to Vietnam) to learn how to launch a new product for a developing market”(Stood). Universities should seize this opportunity, like Harvard, to provide students with a new educational, cultural, and social prospective, incrementing students educational development as well as improving communications skills. Evolving student's into this globalizing society.
Nations throughout history have utilized their own interpretation of others nations technology and advancements in order to themselves advance. However, it has become more crucial for nations to advance in categorical criteria, that they have embarked on inspiring universities to obligate international studies(Sood). This encouragement of students pursuing international study is to do with the aspiration of their return and contribution to their home economy. Majority of international students often return; home from an account of 70% usually do(Stood). Nations like the United States and Asia, contribute and attract majority of the 3.7 million international students worldwide(Stood). Studying abroad is not only beneficial to the individuals but also entire nations in the long run (Sood). “International students in the US, for instance, contribute approximately $20 billion to the US economy each year”(Sood). Not only is it a fueling mechanism to the economy and individuals but insensitive to upholding advanced nations of today.
Studying abroad has the capacity to provide social and cultural benefits. Living and studying abroad allows students to develop cross-cultural communication skills(Staff). They are specifically innovated to force students to leave their comfort zones and experience the dilemma of multicultural situations. Living abroad in a difference cultural environment fosters a sense of teamwork and encouragement of perceiving the world in a completely different perspective. The captivation of experiencing another culture while traveling in foreign country is what allures the students to studying abroad, however, studying abroad provides gregarious and cultural benefits for students to increment their opportunity to facilely acquire a job in the future as they have experienced lots of challenges of multicultural situation during their international studies.
Studying abroad rewards graduates with a competitive advantage when beginning their careers. Employers are increasingly favoring internationally educated students because “they have creative problem solving experience in unfamiliar situations, adaptability within culturally diverse environments, excellent listening and communication skills, and practical knowledge of a specific culture and language. (Berdan)”. These particular employees are well prepared to acclimate to unfamiliar environments, ability to learn from multitudes of teaching techniques as well as efficaciously communicating with diverse groups, and the disposition to challenge oneself(“Benefits”)”. Therefore, international experience is a critical and impressive part of any curriculum vitae.
As fundamental to the personal growth students will undergo overseas, “the international and cross-cultural interpersonal skills you'll develop will certainly expand your employment opportunities and, consequently, your income potential in our increasingly globalized society(“Benefits”)”. Countless companies are seeking individuals that are the best or most unique in their specialized field. In reciprocation graduates need to offer something exemplary, and this in what international study accomplishes. Studying abroad is very beneficial in providing an advantage in employment opportunities since the employers adhere to graduates of international study, as they have acquired the capacity of yielding their academics, intellectual skills and acreage of experience. Studying abroad is not for everyone. However it is crucial for students in concrete majors because their specialized field fits the exact same studying criteria, only more propitious. Majority of these categorical fields require individuals equipt to the rapidly incrementing global world. “Some programs are run more like glorified vacations, shuttling busloads of American students from one sight to the next. But times are changing, and study abroad is so much more than that. It expands personal horizons while opening up a world of personal and professional opportunities. Although it should be fun, it's also a serious undertaking that will challenge students on a personal level and have an impact on their academic career(Berdan)”. Studying abroad is not easy but very vigorous and extremely challenging, while also being a rewarding opportunity of personal growth. Millions of individuals who live in America have the benediction of going to astonishing and outstanding universities but some criteria cannot plenarily be taught in this environment but in the physical environment. They are certain things in life that cannot be plenarily edified through a book but need to be personally experienced. International study should not be a vacation or gap fulfillment but obligatory for students in categorical majors to study abroad because it has the capacity to yield academic skills, provide gregarious and cultural benefits, and advantages in the employment field.
