Europeans’ explored numerous part of the Americans during these years, however the discoveries which will be addressed d are the colonies of Roanoke, Jamestown, and Plymouth. The Colony of Roanoke was settled in the 1584 with a population of 100 home owners on an island 17 miles away from Croatan island. The colony was founded through a patent given to Sir Walter Raleigh by Queen Elizabeth I. The colonist built homes, a fort, meeting places, and grew crops. In the year of 1587 some sailed back to England for much needed supplies. Three years past before the supplies were able to sail to Roanoke. The pilgrims, or the separatist, wished to separate from the Established Church of England, however one was required to worship the same as every other resident of England go to church on Sunday, to the same church, read the Bible at the same time, and so on, making it impossible to leave the church and stay in England. When they left England, they traveled to Holland, were they found that their ways were deplorable in their sight. They found no other solution than going to the new world. With one hundred passenger their ship, the Mayflower, finally arrived. Before setting foot on shore, forty-one English men signed into affect the Mayflower compact on the eleventh day of November of the year of 1620, as a governing document over the Plymouth colony. When arriving in the colony, the colonist suffered during its first winter from starvation and the need of shelter. More than forty souls died that first winter. They were not forgotten, however, by the God they came to serve. The colonist were introduced to an English speaking Indian, Samoset, who helped them form an alliance with the Wampanoags’ tribe who taught the how to hunt animals and grow corn, beans and squash. The colonist were very pleased with their new way of life and thanked God thru a Thanksgiving feast. The pilgrims invited the Indians to a three day festival to thank God for His divine Hand of
