The role I plan on doing is the common factory worker. Many things had happened during the time of the Great Depression and what had lead up to it. The main thing that people believe started the Great Depression was the Stock Market Crash of 1929. Things like the Fiscal Policy, the Monetary Policy, and the Labor Policy helped stabilize the United States after the Great Depression and the Stock Market Crash. Many other factors took place during this time but the main ones stand out more. Fiscal policy is the means by which a government adjusts its spending levels and tax rates to monitor and influence a nation's economy. Monetary policy is maintained through actions such as increasing the interest rate, or changing the amount of money banks need to keep in the vault. …show more content…
It was to help “regulate” unemployment, business cycles, inflation and the cost of money. With this the government can help control the “economic phenomena.” This policy boosts employment and keeps a good value on money. This policy might not affect everyone but mainly the “middle class” which is the largest economic group. At some points in time the “middle class” has to pay higher taxes than the “upper class” people have to. This affects my role as a common factory worker because, well its right there. This policy would help me be able to find a job when I’m unemployed in a way. Since it helps create jobs unemployment would go down. Without this policy, there could be a high demand on jobs and there could be a lot of homeless people due to no money. No job = No money, No money = No house or

Manager Interview Paper

...Manager Interview Paper Job satisfaction, Motivation and Leadership in the Workplace Introduction As a business major, I surround by numerous success stories from internet, magazines and visiting business professionals in different lectures. They all achieve a certain kind of success although they may have totally different background, organizational culture and management style. Therefore, it is hard for me to find the common point behind their successes. When I start to learn organizational behavior, I begin to understand how their successes connect to each other with the help of various concepts and theories. In order to further understand whether managers implement the concept in to a real work scenario, I interviewed Peng Liu, the vice president of Hisen Pharmaceuticals Co., and write this paper to find out what exactly he did in a daily basis, and how his managing style related to the theories and concepts in organizational behavior. By summering and evaluating the findings, I could possibly understand why organizational behavior deserve to be learned and applied by managers, even it requires extra time, money and efforts beyond their responsibilities. General background and responsibilities Peng has been with Hisen for 12 years. He started his current job when he joined Hisen. ...With the Profits,” (Environmental Action, Academic Search Elite), Michael Jordan is paid twenty million dollars in endorsement fees. Big name sport teams advertise Nike to appeal to the common person. Indonesia is one of many countries around the world that is home to numerous Nike factories. Indonesia is a third world country of 214 million people. The main part of the economy is farmers, with half of these being the labor force. This happens to be an ideal country of choice for Nike to set up their factories for manufacturing their shoes. It allows Nike to take advantage of the local people. These people need to work in these factories to make a living, and they are stuck with the poor working conditions that Nike has provided. One way in which Nike is taking advantage of their workers is through long and hard work hours. According to the article: “We are not machines,” the Nike’s code of conduct states that the employees in their factories can only work sixty hours a week, and it’s mandatory to have one day off per seven days worked. The task force in the article went in and interviewed the workers at the Nike factory in early 2001 and found that workers’ weeks consisted of seventy hours and more. This depended on the seasonal orders that the workers were obligated to fill. The top worker was...

Taylorism

...Taylor. It was developed at a time when working conditions had reached an all-time low and industrial unrest was becoming a major issue(Witzel, 2005). Scientific Management was one of the first management ideas to become really influential. This management theory was developed in response of ‘worker soldiering”- workers will do the least amount of work in the longest time, workers would stall their jobs on purpose. The incentive to work more efficiently did not exist. Taylor believed in making scientific changes in management. This would improve economic efficiency and labor productivity. Taylor studied the work process scientifically. He studied how employees preformed their jobs and how this affected their productivity. Taylor proposed that by simplifying jobs by developing standard methods for performing certain jobs, productivity would increase dramatically. He also believed that employees and manager should be more involved with each other. This point of view was different from previous management methods. Taylor believed that money was a motivation for workers; to achieve higher efficiency he promoted the “a fair day’s pay for a fair day’s work” or piece rate payment. This means the worker gets paid for what he has worked for or he gets paid only if he reaches the desired amount of production. Higher efficiency of an employee led to higher wages. Taylor designed experiments in the workplace to determine optimal performance levels. He used his outcomes to determine what was the...

The Effects of Industrialization

...Assignment 1.2: Research Paper THE EFFECTS OF INDUSTRIALIZATION AFTER THE CIVIL WAR Renee Whaley History 105: Contemporary U.S History Professor Michael Dixon February 7, 2016 The Effects of Industrialization after the Civil War Introduction This paper will focus on the industrialization period that followed the civil war and the effects it had on the society, economy, and politics. This paper will also touch on three different groups affected by this period known as the industrial age. Finally, this paper will look at the daily life of an average working American and how it was affected by the industrial age. Society, Economics, and Politics The Industrial Age (better known as the Industrial Revolution) had an affect on nearly every aspect of the American life. This included its society, its economy, and its politics. From the north down on through the south and eventually to the west, society changed through the Industrial Revolution. The north saw more of an ideal lifestyle. Factories and a surplus of jobs created more opportunities for people and as a result, many began to move towards the north in search for a better lifestyle. As population grew, housing became a problem. Companies would build housing close to factories so its employees could walk to work but poor building codes saw companies taking advantage of this. Plumbing became obsolete, the water system became polluted, and diseases would often sweep through the tenements. In the south, the...

Internationalisation of Honda

...interacted most directly with host societies. Two polar views have framed the debate. On the one hand, it has been argued that Japanese management systems cannot function effectively in the West ‐ or that if they can, the workforce suffers ‐ because they are culture‐bound, exploitative, and would be resisted by trades unions. Japanese practice has been interpreted as classic “Theory X” management. On the other hand, Japanese management systems are said to offer Western production workers new opportunities for teamwork, self‐expression and workplace democracy which should be grasped eagerly ‐ here Japan is interpreted as classic “Theory Y” management. The characteristic Western “either/or” analytical approach may have set up a false dichotomy. Adler’s (1993) study of the Toyota/GM joint venture NUMMI, in California, revealed that rigid management structures were combined with opportunities for worker participation in the “learning bureaucracy”. Mair’s (1994a) study of Honda in Ohio showed how workers participated but in a way that was strictly channelled, and that the “single status” system both provided a degree of democracy and equality and permitted authority systems to function more effectively. Innovative management appeared to have reconciled the dichotomies that academic observers continued to debate. Progress in understanding the Japanese multinationals has been further complicated by two other considerations. First, Japanese firms appear to have adapted their management...

Taylorism

...western, one Asian, in your answer. Introduction Before looking in to whether scientific management has always been successful outside of USA, there is a need to look at scientific management when Frederick W. Taylor first introduced it in the late 1890s and early 1900s. Started experimenting at Midvale Steel Company where he tried to improve the efficiency of the workers for increased productivity, he has then already faced the problems and critics of his scientific management that it is still facing today. This includes the time study of work to define the optimal standards for workers while using stopwatches and other devices; critics are against this as they feel the method in measuring performance violates the fair treatment of workers. While it is safe to say that Taylor was a central figure in the development of management thought where his emphasis on efficiency using scientific management, it must be stressed that many others who have applied it, has also adapt and refine additional methods to suit their needs contribute to the success of scientific management (Wren & Bedeian 2009). This paper seeks to discuss how Taylorism is received outside USA as well as compare and contrast the receptivity of Taylorism in Russia and Japan. The global spread and development of Taylorism in the 1950s and 1960s greatly enhanced productivity levels, worldwide. During the 1950s and 1960s Taylorism finally spread widely outside the United States, and constituted the principal...
