Communication and collaboration of three learning style and three personality types.
“What is effective for one learner may be ineffective for another.”(Honingsfeld and Dunn, 2006)
Learning styles tell how to effectively process communication and personalities tell how to effectively collaborate among peers and others in the educational realm and in the employment field chosen for a career. It is important to recognize different learning styles and personality types, as equally as important as it is to recognize different ways to communicate and reach one common destination.
A learning style that many have is a bodily-kinesthetic style; it is a style in which body part motions are used to process information. These people would rather use a direct, hands-on approach to communication as they are learning. When active, these learners retain material and have a better understanding as information is presented in an active way. These learners communicate best using hands-on; touch, possibly even flash cards.
People who have strong, logical-mathematical skill will most likely be in positions in creating a combined approach for projects because their logical explanation and solving problems skills are very great. This individual’s skill set can help them be logically clear to other individuals on their team or in their group.
With people who are visual-spatial they have the skill and knowingly use images and colors to effectively organize projects, they can visualize an outcome before the project is started and the product finished; for instance, home building. Visual-spatial people can get around easier because of their eye for land marking or sign posting, even parks, malls, and or schools. Effective forms of

Communication and Collaboration: Learning Styles and Personality Types

...Communication and Collaboration: Learning Styles and Personality Types Communication and Collaboration: Learning Styles and Personality Types Learning how to communicate with others can be difficult at times, but if one learns what each person needs to do in order to succeed and knows one’s self, then working with these different individuals can be an extremely enlightening experience. The most important factors in this process are learning each person’s learning styles and personality traits. Knowing Yourself Learning Styles “When you understand how you learn, you can make more active and effective decisions about how to choose study strategies and pursue learning goals” (Carter, Bishop & Kravits, 2007). In the Pathways to Learning worksheet, developed by Joyce Bishop, Ph.D. and based upon Howard Gardener’s Frames of Mind: The Theory of Multiple Intelligence, Gardener shows that there are many different learning styles and with each learning style come strengths and weaknesses for each individual. These learning styles consist of “Verbal/Linguistic, Musical/Rhythmic, Logical/Mathematical, Visual/Spatial, Bodily/Kinesthetic, Intrapersonal, Interpersonal, and Naturalistic” (Carter et al, 2007). Every individual fits under a certain category and sometimes more than one. That is why it is sometimes frustrating to find effective studying techniques and can be difficult to harness in a setting with multiple people. After taking this assessment I learned that I have three strong...

Learning from Communication Styles

...Communication is any facet of the complex process of human interaction; it focuses on the many modes of human messaging (Stoda, 2013). Effective interpersonal communication in business is important to be successful. It is vital for employees and mangers to understand the different communication styles to better understand how to communicate effectively with each other. These important communication styles are closed, blind, hidden and open. Once educated on these styles of communication, and realizing how one’s self particularly prefers to communicate, can open many doors to better relationships and rolls, particularly as an employee and a manager. Through tests such as the Employee Tendency Indicator (ETI) and the Manager Tendency Indicator (MTI) I was personally able to identify what communication style I use in an employee and a manager roll inversely which communication styles I use the least. Taking these tests gave me the opportunity to see what communication styles I need to learn so I can better interact with individuals at work and in my personal life so I can have effective professional and personal relationships. My results were what I had expected after reading our textbook; I was an open communicator in both an employee and manager roll. I feel as though this fits my general personality and how I have communicated in both employee and manager positions in my business career (ETI, MTI test and also the book). I really respond best to open honest and through...

Learning to Flex Your Communication Style

...Learning to Flex Your Communication Style Communication styles are part of the foundation of building effective relationships. In order to build future positive relationships, we must learn to flex our styles. Robert and Dorothy Bolton (1996), co-authors of Peoples Styles at Work, state, “Strong relationships are built by being consistently honest, fair, and respectful of others” (p. 117). The combination of style flex, honesty, fairness and respect helps to achieve the goal of effective communication, which leads to better personal and professional relationships. As an amiable style communicator, I find it easier to relate to others. My style reflects my personality as being positive, helpful and warm. More than often, I tend to ask the question “why” to be able to understand my audience’s needs. Being emphatic and sensitive to the needs of others leads to pleasant relationships. I like being part of a team, assisting others with assignments and working in small groups. This allows me to build relationships that are more personal not just those of association. When meeting the needs of others, I often have to flex my communication style. As easy as it is to want to remain the soft spoken, well-liked, and respected person, sometimes this can have a negative on affect relationships. I have to become more aggressive and direct at various meetings and high alert situations. Style flexing helps me to achieve effective communication. When working...

Communication and Collaboration Strategy

...Communication and collaboration may be the most important skills that individuals need through all aspects of their lives. However, these skills may also be the most difficult skills to master. Communication and collaboration with individuals are difficult skills because of the variety of learning styles and personality types that each individual may have. Understanding different learning styles and personality types can aid in communication and collaboration. By knowing about learning styles and personality types, an individual can adjust communication to a form best received by the other individual. The first step in mastering these skills is to understand learning styles. According to Keys to College Studying, there are eight different learning styles or multiple intelligences. Three of these, and the three that I have heard about most often, are Verbal/Linguistic, Visual/Spatial, and Bodily/Kinesthetic. Verbal/Linguistic learners have the ability to communicate through language. Their strengths include listening, reading, writing, and speaking. Visual/Spatial learners understand spatial relationships and can perceive and create images that assist with their understanding. Bodily/kinesthetic learners have the ability to take in information through bodily sensation. These three learning styles include the people whom learn best by hearing the material, seeing the material, or learning by doing. Each learning style brings its own challenge concerning communication and collaborating...

This paper relates to communicating and collaboration methods for team members with Logical, Bodily, and Visual learning styles and with Thinker, Organizer, and Adventurer personality types. Systems for communicating and collaborating effectively with a group of people with different learning styles may differ, and here are some examples; Logical learners have the skill of reasoning the information that is learned. They have the ability to absorb information by analyzing and organizing the material. Bodily learning is when someone is hands-on in the communication and collaboration of an activity such as building, sketching, and getting their hands involved. They can provide excellent hands on support and communication skills. Visual learners have the skill to achieve their best results by utilizing visual aids. The communication for a Visual learning style is to prepare a flowchart or graphs that can show each member of the team the work needs to be completed within a week, a month, or a year. Communication and Collaboration Strategy Paper

...Communication and Collaboration Strategy Paper As we know that everyone is unique and different, the same goes for the uniqueness and difference in their learning styles and the role of their personality type, when it comes to learning communicating and collaborating within a team. That is why different strategies for effective communications and collaborations need to be created for groups of individuals with different learning styles and different personality types. According to the book, Becoming a Lifelong Learner (Carter, Bishop, & Kravits, 2007) three of the many different learning styles are: interpersonal, intrapersonal and verbal-linguistic. Beginning with one of the different learning styles, in specific the verbal-linguistic style, a good strategy for effective communications and collaborations with this learner, is to make sure you recognize the different characteristics of this learning style. For example students with this learning style like to write, they enjoy telling stories, they like to read, they express themselves clearly, they are good in negotiating, and like to discuss topics that interest them. Based on this, a verbal-linguistic learner will require assignments that require writing papers, and book reading, just to mention a few. On another learning style like the intrapersonal learner, some of the characteristics of this student are that he needs quiet time to think, this student is interested in self improvement, he understands his thoughts...

...Communication and Collaboration Strategy Paper Gen200 University of Phoenix Communication and Collaboration Strategy Paper When working in a group each individual should keep in mind that no two people gain knowledge the same way. Chapter 2 “Learning Styles, Majors, and Careers” is about different Learning Styles. “Learning style is defined as a set of characteristics which make learning effective for an individual.” (Seckel) There are eight of them: Verbal-Linguistics, Logical-Mathematical, Bodily-Kinesthetic, Visual-Spatial, Interpersonal, Intrapersonal, Musical, and Naturalistic. Each different Learning Style has its own character traits and the approach to each one is different. Working with a Verbal-Linguistics, a Visual-Spatial, and an Intrapersonal Learning Style should be taken on with different approaches to communication. Communicating with the Visual-Linguistic learner would open because this person is good with writing, reading, listening and speaking. Whereas communicating with Visual-Spatial would be different because they comprehend what they can see. The use email would be considered the major form of communication with this person because charts, graphs, or even presentations could be used to convey the information that is being shared. Then with the Intrapersonal Learning Style communication would very different because this person tends to do a better job when working independent. ...Gen200/Week 2: Communication & Collaboration Strategy Paper September 7, 2010 Communication & Collaboration (among different learning styles) Intrapersonal, Verbal-Linguistic, Logical-Mathematical The Intrapersonal learner is introspective; they are self-aware and fully understands how they relate to others. The Verbal-Linguistic learner can freely communicate through language and has the ability to teach others. The Logical-Mathematical learner uses reasoning, both deductive and inductive to absorb material. They can easily discern relationships and connections. Collaboration between these learning styles seems simplistic enough. Identification of style is first and foremost, and then collaboration can be effective and free flowing. The Intrapersonal learner will be the lead collaborator…understanding how they relate to others, they will be able to serve as facilitator of the group, establishing relationships with both the Verbal-Linguistic and the Logical Mathematician. The Logical-Mathematical learner will be the one to formulate relationships and connections within the material and The Verbal-Linguistic will be the one to ensure that the group understands the finished product of the collaboration, whether it be studying for a test or a team project. Learning styles differ from person to person. Different learning styles are often the result among individuals with different types of each. Different personality styles thrown together can either clash or compliment. Personality is the first thing one person notices about another when communicating with them and learning the different strengths about each personality type can help to improve communication and collaboration. There are three different learning and personality styles that I will talk about. Verbal/Linguistic “Verbal Linguistic is the ability to communicate through language, listening, reading, writing, and speaking” (Keys to College Studying Chapt. 2). In order to communicate and collaborate effectively each team member must use their strengths to make up for another’s weakness. Those with Verbal Linguistic strengths can effectively communicate in writing and can also use persuasion. Teachers can also help their students by having them keep journals, play word games, and use discussion in the class room. Interpersonal “Interpersonal is the ability to relate to others, noticing their moods, motivations, feelings, social activity...

The three styles were Interpersonal, Verbal linguistic, and Bodily Kinesthetic. Interpersonal: The interpersonal learning style was the first one found during my assessment. These learners seem to communicate well, and can see things from someone else view point. They will cooperate in a group setting.
