...Nursing Research Project Teen Pregnancy Prevention Program Abstract The issue of controlling and preventing teenage pregnancy is a major problem in society. Teenage pregnancy is a significant health issue that plagues our nation and communities. Community and public health nurses are faced with the challenge of addressing teen pregnancy, a monumental health issues that affect vulnerable populations in society. Effectiveness of healthcare interventions depends in part, on the approach that is taken in addressing the presenting issues (Shi & Stevens, 2005). Factors that contribute to teenage pregnancy span socioeconomic, cultural, and psychological issues that are perpetrated by individual characteristics (of the teenagers), peers, family members, and the greater society (Maurer & Smith, 2009). Data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention note that in 2009, more than 500,000 children were born to mothers of ages 15 to 19 years, at a rate of 45.5 per 1000 mothers (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 2010, para. 1). Teenage pregnancy, a public health priority for youths, is a multifaceted health issue that is influenced, in part, by socioeconomic factors such as peer pressure, low income of families, and the media (Maurer & Smith, 2009; The National Campaign, 2010). Likewise, teenage pregnancy also creates socioeconomic and health problems for teenage mothers, teenage fathers, their children, and society. Some of the effects of...

...Introduction This study is to focus on the attitudes of the community towards violence against women, this study introduce: * the origin of domestic violence, * the definition of domestic violence against women, * how it affects the society, * forms of domestic violence , * the cause of domestic violence * A Review of Literature is to emphasize on the importance of the attitudes of the community towards the topic, the determinant, the suggested improvements and the limitations. This study will also conclude what is to be done to improve the attitudes of the community. Personal experiences and perspective The concern of this topic has sparked my interests as a Marketing student due to the recent reports of inhuman violent acts against women in India that has raised commotion all over the country, however this report is not pin-pointing at any countries, but as a general subject. You need also to link your topic and your personal experience to the theoretical perspectives (epistemologies and paradigms) that were discussed in class. Domestic Violence against Women The status of women has been seen as unequal to the status of men in terms of authority, opportunity as well as independence. Although the society has reached a tremendous change from degradation (1990s) to a position of equality (2000s), Violence against women which is defined as “an act of gender-based violence that results in, physical, sexual or psychological harm, or suffering...

...For our netnography exploration, we decided to choose reddit. For those of you who do not already know, reddit is an online community where users can post questions in discussion threads as well as post media content such as pictures, videos, and memes. Content is upvoted and downvoted to determine popularity among the posts. Reddit is known as the “front page” of the internet and their mission is to help people discover places where they can be their true selves, and empower our community to flourish. Which leads me to my next slide of the reasons we chose reddit, we wanted to choose an online community that let users be themselves so our comparison to the article was accurate and objective. In addition, there are over 850,000 subreddits which are subcategories of information on reddit. For example there are a variety of subreddits related to productive consumption such as “homeandgarden” and “DIY” which allowed us to examine discussions and ideas related to the article. There is also a very diverse population on reddit with close to 40 million user accounts from a wide variety of economic, educational, and social statuses. In addition, reddit allows users to click on usernames to see other posts from the user and other subreddits they follow in order to get a more accurate depiction of which category, LCC vs HCC, the user falls under. There is also a very heavy male population within reddit which we found relevant given the study was composed of all males. On the next slide...

...infrastructure projects 1.2 Statement of the problem Maintaining steady completion of construction projects, has until recently, been an issue of serious concern both to the client and contractors. Standish Group Report (2007) noted that mega projects fail at a higher rate than small/medium sized projects. According to Khatak(2009), the main reasons and causes of project/task failure are embodied in four key dimensions of the task, namely –time, cost, quality and content. The end users and stakeholders of a project also play a fundamentally important role towards success or failure. Lock (2007), asserts that consequences of failure of projects can be multi-dimensional, having far reaching effects on individuals, communities and organizations. In more visible terms time and cost overruns are common features of failure of projects, resulting in delay of service or product delivery. Kappelman et al., (2006) says that the high rate of failed/incomplete or abandoned projects negatively impacts government/organizational performance, costing tax payer billions of money in losses. In quantifiable terms the cost of delays and partial or inadequate accrual of the envisaged benefits in the shape of increase in revenues, improvements in service, quality or technology would vary according to the nature and scope of project. In developing countries like Kenya, projects are the...

...necessities, but because of the fact that they have to resettled and relocated to a new location. Resettlement is a voluntary or involuntary movement of large number of people from one place (which is usually the original settlement) to another (which is a new settlement), and this movement is not without consequence (Akpanudoedehe, 2010). It is a planned or impulsive transfer of people from their original places to a new settlement site wherein they have to adapt to the new environment. Here in the Philippines, resettlement is a common picture in our environment, and the most dominant kind of resettlement that we can see is involuntary. Involuntary resettlement is largely a consequence of planned change generated by major development projects such as dams for irrigation and hydropower, urban renewal, and highway construction (ADB 2000). Illegal settlers who live in these expropriated lands are relocated to places that may be far from their original home and is much different to the surroundings that they are used to. Over the years, the National Housing Authority is consistent in providing and maintaining adequate housing for the greatest possible...

The four purposes of this chapter are to (1) describe the research methodology of this study, (2) explain the sample selection, (3) describe the procedure used in designing the instrument and collecting the data, and (4) provide an explanation of the statistical procedures used to analyze the data. Research Methodology A descriptive research methodology was used for this study. A survey was administered to a selected sample from a specific population identified by the National School Board Association. The term ‘survey’ is commonly applied to a research methodology designed to collect data from a specific population, or a sample from that population, and typically utilizes a questionnaire or an interview as the survey instrument (Robson, 1993). Surveys are used to obtain data from individuals about themselves, their households, or about larger social institutions (school boards). Sample surveys are an important tool for collecting and analyzing information from selected individuals. They are widely accepted as a key tool for conducting and applying basic social science research methodology (Rossi, Wright, and Anderson, 1983). American society is familiar with the use of surveys to assess issues or project trends: marketing researchers use surveys to study consumer preference and shopping patterns (Leary, 1995). The Gallup poll on education in America is an ongoing project of Phi Delta Kappa...

...Research and Evidence INTRODUCTION The author of this assignment will critically appraise a research report in the Nursing Times titled Young people's perceptions and access to health advice (Sherman-Jones 2003) (appendix 1). This article was chosen for a number of reasons. Firstly the topic of young people's health is frequently discussed in the media, often negatively. A search on BBC news online resulted in 46 articles within the month 27 October to 27 November 2003 (appendix 2) and similarly Scotsman Newspapers online facility produced over 100 articles for the same period (appendix 3). Sexual health was one of the 5 key areas that the Health of the Nation (Department of Health 1992) report highlighted, including teenage conceptions. Teenage health is an area that the Scottish Executive (2003) is also interested in promoting through its Improving Health in Scotland document. On a personal level, adolescent health is of great interest to the author and it is intended that this assignment will increase her knowledge, not only of young people's health experiences but also the importance of research to her continuing professional development. The article is directly related to other modules undertaken by the author namely family planning and health promotion. It is proposed that the author will examine both positive and negative aspects of the article and provide a personal evaluation using a systematic analysis of the research that follows a set criterion (McSherry...

...illustrates that there is a substantial difference between the Simpson’s Indexes at the littoral zone in comparison to the other zone. The Simpson’s Index was one method chosen to measure biodiversity because it takes into account the number of species present as well as the abundance of each species. (Simpson's Diversity Index, n.d.) The index calculates a number between 0 and 1 (the greater the figure, the greater the diversity of the sample). Further results were also correlated into forms that allowed a visual representation of the raw data. This included transect lines, food webs and tables of organisms. It was found through percentage calculations, that the sub-littoral zone was the only zone that consisted all 5 of the selected keystone species. This finding further supports the hypothesis. Abiotic data was also taken at the Rocky Shore; this included air temperature, water temperature and salinity. When graphed, the graphs foregrounded trends in the data. For water temperature, the trend was a gradual increase in water temperature as the samples were taken from the sublittoral zone up to the littoral zone. It was found that the supra-littoral zone displayed the highest temperature because the isolated rock pools in this area are exposed to a considerably high level of sun exposure when compared to the littoral and sublittoral zones. The trend for salinity at the Rocky Shore was an increase in the volume of salinity from the sublittoral zone to the supra-littoral zone....
