In “Trifles” and “A Doll House”, the focus is set on women and how they deal with the male-dominated society. Marriage plays a huge role as it shows how the women respond to certain situations that would arise in their marriage and both plays express a common theme of women who are being controlled and dominated by men through expectations. Socially, the men do not want to acknowledge the women, therefore, the men feel more important than the women.
In “Trifles”, the central character of the drama is Mrs. Wright. The marriage of Mr. and Mrs. Wright exemplified signs of a troubled marriage and showed how their marriage denied true freedom and ability to define oneself. Her isolation is one of the ultimate causes of her unhappiness in their marriage.
