The Wakaranga people’s creation story is Life from Moon and the Stars. God created a man known as Moon, who was not content with his home at the base of the ocean so he went to live on the lonely land. Moon became dissatisfied as God had warned him, so He sent him a companion for only two years. Morningstar lit a fire to separate them through the night but it did no good and in the morning she became the mother of all the grasses, plants, trees, and other greens. Rain began to fall and allowed the plants to continue to grow. However, the two years had come to an end; Morningstar had to leave Moon and return to the heavens (Beier).
To once again comfort him, God gave Moon the option of another wife for two years but this time he would die.
