The battle between Bonhomme Richard and Serapis that happened during the American REvolution, is widely known as the American marine battle that happened on September 23, 1779. The battle took victory by Captain John Paul Jones. Challenged by a fleet with the Spanish and French combined, the British navy was too preoccupied to prevent American disturbance with its merchant marine in the Atlantic. Managing from French bases, Jones led a small navy around the British Isles from August to October 1779. Jones famous quote: “I have not begun to fight!” was the launch of the 3 and a half hour duel. An estimated 150 Americans and British were killed or wounded. Even though Jones ship was sinking, he outlasted his opponent and forced a surrender.
