“Life is filled with human interaction is essentially a negotiating area.” (Corvette, 2007, p.2) Our emotions and behavior are influenced by each other. “There are times humans seek approval and recognition, and or affection, in our interaction with others.” (Corvette, 2007, p.2) Negotiation is a process of influencing others to get what we want. Most of us negotiate much more often than we realize. “Our emotions, temperament, disposition, and others aspects of our personality give us each unique needs, goals, and perspectives.” (Corvette, 2007, p.4) I hear all the time that everything is negotiable. I disagree for the simple fact is when you choose to compromise, you have to consider a moral choice, and you have to believe in what it is that you are negotiating.

“Negotiation could be considered scientific-having principles and methods.” (Corvette, 2007, p.3) I believe negotiations can be difficult especially in a marriage. In all portions of our lives we negotiate. We all have a tendency of influencing people of are self perception. “The pervasiveness of negotiation underscores its importance.” (Corvette, 2007, p.3) I find that improving your interaction will improve your effeteness. We must consciously develop the attributes we desire. Distortion in your perception can cause missed opportunities. “Knowledge in human behavior is essential to achieving effective negotiation skills. You must know yourself before you can understand others.” (Corvette, 2007, p.6)

The statements that all human interaction is negotiation, and that not everything is negotiable are not contrary statements as such. Although it may seem that the statement that not everything is negotiable is the direct opposite of the statement that all human interaction is negotiable, these two statements describe separate aspects of negotiation as a whole.
