Containing The Lady Dragon From Within: Things Men Should Never Tell A Woman Women can often over react. We complex creatures are known for being feisty, impulsive, and emotional. You can say something you consider harmless, or even kind, only to discover that you have offended, infuriated or annoyed us. The problem that men all have is the feelings of attraction they have toward women—a very complicated group of people, that are not going anywhere. Men need to understand that certain comments and remarks should never be spoken to a woman. Doing so, will result in the bleeding of our ears and explosive behavior. In order to counter act these results, removing these words from your vocabulary would be significantly wise. This would definitely be useful by taking whatever means possible to keep these words from entering your mouth for the sake of containing the she-beast inside every woman as she rips off your head, and watches as you weep in terror. As a fair warning, some of these absolute no-no words and phrases may seem incredibly harmless. You may think that we are kidding, but sadly we are not. These are six things that you should never, ever say to a woman.
“ Have you lost/put on some weight?” When in doubt, shut your mouth. These words could do a world of damage and you would never know. Never discuss a woman’s weight, whether it be a positive way or a negative. Whether you are trying to give a compliment, it can always backfire and blow up in your face as they ask themselves, “Was I fat before?!”. The subtext of the question is that you are basically telling them that they looked like crap before and then they start to feel like they must have looked worse than they thought. It makes them feel scrutinized and a bit self-conscious. No woman needs to feel like that. There is the slight chance that some of the people making the remarks have no idea how hurtful it really is to them, so we could surely cut those few some slack. Always keep in mind to use your brain, exercise a little restraint, and keeping your mouth closed.
“Is that what you’re going to wear? Offering a woman fashion advice is asking for blood. No matter how open-minded your mother/friend/girlfriend can be the one thing that all of them likely obsess over, is their clothes. Your opinion is not valid when it comes to these situation, because admit it what do men really know about fashion? Your opinion is valid in itself, but never let it become a critical observation. Yes, compliments like, “you look beautiful” will suffice, but nothing more. Fashion for most women, is a way of expressing themselves. The clothes that we put on our bodies expresses who we are as a person. Women like to know that the effort they have created into making the perfect outfit was worth the time, otherwise what was the point? This question can also make you seem controlling, no woman ever wants that. If she wants to dress a little risqué, let her. If she wants to dress a bit funky and weird, let her. Just appreciate our style and effort to look attractive and pleasant. Men, restrain the enthusiastic critique and it will probably save you at least a dozen ugly arguments.
“Calm Down” I assure you, this will have the opposite of the intended effect. This can also be related to the universally despised phrase “relax”. Given the appropriate situation, it would seem logical to tell a women that is either freaking out, having a break down, losing their mind, or overreacting to relax. Whether or not aware of the fact that your “logic” to them ,would seem to be equivalent to the “stupidest idea ever”. A woman expressing anger or frustration would think that screaming would be a perfectly fitting response. The fact that you bothered to calm her down only built up more of the rage inside, making the situation worse. When you tell a woman to relax you are adding to her temper. She thinks that you are denying that there is a reason to be angry and assuming you think she is crazy. An accusation of being crazy will be far from helpful. Even if it were true, you do not ever want to say this to a woman’s face. Do it and you will see a whole new level of crazy, that I promise you.
“You look fine…” This will probably result in the question, “Fine? What in the hell does that mean?”. This comment is probably referring to a woman’s appearance. Telling a woman she looks fine is like telling her you are sweet and kind reminding her of a brother, unless you are her brother. Women expect a charming response and not something pathetic like “fine”. We want praise and approval, knowledge that putting effort into making ourselves look nice, made an impact big enough for you men to put thoughtful meaning into words. In which case, we are more expectant of higher admiration and appreciation. If you are not ready to deal with the questions, and debate the meaning of the simple words, then avoid this at all costs.
“Why can’t you be like…so and so…?” Assholes would only say this. It is extremely rude and you should probably punch yourself immediately after saying it. Women never want to be compared, especially to other women. This does nothing for you, but accomplishes making her feel incredibly insecure about herself. Do not do this, ever.
“Are you on your period?/Is it that time of the month?” If anyone ever got away with saying this, they probably didn’t live long enough to tell the tale, because you just called a woman, a hormonal lunatic. This question comes from when men think their woman is upset at them, for no apparent reason. The fact is, we get more angry because you are accusing us for being hormonal, when we are not. Instead of asking us why we feel a certain way about something, men come to the conclusion that “we must be on our periods”. Admit it, men use this as a secret tactic for intentionally making us look bad to “prove a point” knowing that we will get inevitably mad when someone assumes this. Men take pleasure from this because then you do look like the crazy person…like “Ha! You got all crazy because I said that. See, you are on your period!”, which then will drive women insane. Some woman who are asked this feel like it is none of your concern. Whatever is happening under their clothes should not affect or matter to you. Women do not ask men which side their balls are hanging from, do we? This is a total double standard, because men think they can blame all of their problems of us like moodiness on our periods, but what can women blame men for? If this is the case, women should be able to say things like, I think your a bit testosterone-y today. If you know what is good for you, refrain from this question, or suffer the consequences. You will not regret it.

If you know how to treat a lady, and act like a gentleman, these do not apply to you. Hopefully, there are enough men in this world that are decent and well-mannered to know and follow these rules. I am sure that not all men have the indecency to say these things, but if you are one of them take this advice in mind and cherish it indefinitely. This advice will save you from torture that you could possibly endure and will save you from any female wrath you could perhaps encounter. You, my friend, are welcome.

...der control. It would not be Angie's fault. That idiot of a Grottwold undoubtedly had dreamed up some- thing to keep her working overtime in spite of-or perhaps because of-the fact he knew she and Jim were supposed to go home-hunting this morning. It was hard not to lose his temper with someone like Grottwold, who was not only one of the world's non- prizes but who had been very patently trying to take Angie away from Jim and get her for himself. One of the two big doors on the front of the Stoddard Hall opened and a figure came out. But it was not Angie. It was a stocky young man with bushy reddish hair and mustache, carrying an overstaffed briefcase. Seeing Jim in the car, he came down the steps over to the car and leaned on the edge of the opened win- dow on the curb side of the front seat. "Waiting for Angie?" he asked. "That's right, Danny," said Jim. "She was supposed to be out here to meet me, but evidently Grottwold's still hanging on to her." "That's his style." Danny Cerdak was a teaching assistant in the Physics Department. He was the only other Class AA volleyball player on campus. "You're going out to see Cheryl's trailer?" "If Angie ever gets loose in time," said Jim. "Oh, she'll probably be along any second now. Say, do the two of you want to drop over to my place after we play tomorrow night? Nothing special, just pizza and beer and a few other people from the team with their wives and so forth." "Sounds fine," said Jim, glumly, "if I'm not stuck with some...

...scattered tables that completed the furnishings. Even the white-cloaked man kneeling with barely restrained eagerness on the great sunburst set in the wide planks of the floor had vanished from Niall's mind for the moment, though few would have dismissed him so lightly. Jaret Byar had been given time to wash before being brought to Niall, but both his helmet and his breastplate were dulled from travel and battered from use. Dark, deep-set eyes shone with a feverish, urgent light in a face that seemed to have had every spare scrap of flesh boiled away. He wore no sword - none was allowed in Niall's presence - but he seemed poised on the edge of violence, like a hound awaiting the loosing of the leash. Twin fires on long hearths at either end of the room held off the late winter cold. It was a plain, soldier's room, really, everything well made but nothing extravagant except for the sunburst. Furnishings came to the audience chamber of the Lord Captain Commander of the Children of the Light with the man who rose to the office; the flaring sun of coin gold had been worn smooth by generations of petitioners, replaced and worn smooth again. Gold enough to buy any estate in Amadicia, and the patent of nobility to go with it. For ten years Niall had walked across that gold and never thought of it twice, any more than he thought of the sunburst embroidered across the chest of his white tunic. Gold held little interest for...

...well-known statement that contains advice about life in general». According to the dictionary of V.I.Dahl, the proverb is the short, well-aimed and wise saying comprising lecture. It learns how to live right, how to treat world around, how to show your attitude towards Fatherland, relatives and friends. Vladimir Ivanovich Dahl mentioned that a saying, according to the national definition, a floret, and a proverb - a berry. Proverbs being the integral attribute of national folklore are the reflection of life of that nation they belong. The correct and pertinent use of proverbs gives unique originality and special expressiveness. Proverbs, being phraseological units with a sentence structure, represent special complexity while being translated from one language on another. In each language there are phrases and expressions which can not be taken literally even if meaning of each word is known and the grammatical design is clear. The sense of such phrase remains unclear and strange. Attempts of a literal translation of proverbs can lead to unexpected, often ridiculous results. That is the reason why the right way of proverbs translation is a big point. Therefore, on the basis of literature analysis, we realized that brightness and appeal of such genre of folklore as proverbs promoted that there is a great number of literatures devoted to the very topic. However, we chose the comparative analysis of English and Russian proverbs. We are also interested in the comparison of English and...

...wing of the house, there ran a churchyard wall, entirely covered with a small-leaved ivy, except at the place where an opening had been made for a little white iron gate. Behind this arose the shingled tower of Hohen-Cremmen, whose weather vane glistened in the sunshine, having only recently been regilded. The front of the house, the wing, and the churchyard wall formed, so to speak, a horseshoe, inclosing a small ornamental garden, at the open side of which was seen a pond, with a small footbridge and a tied-up boat. Close by was a swing, with its crossboard hanging from two ropes at either end, and its frame posts beginning to lean to one side. Between the pond and the circular bed stood a clump of giant plane trees, half hiding the swing. The terrace in front of the manor house, with its tubbed aloe plants and a few garden chairs, was an agreeable place to sit on cloudy days, besides affording a variety of things to attract the attention. But, on days when the hot sun beat down there, the side of the house toward the garden was given a decided preference, especially by the mother and the daughter of the house. On this account they were today sitting on the tile walk in the shade, with their backs to the open...

...the blood would not show. Doris Whitney looked around the bedroom for the last time to make certain that the pleasant room, grown dear over the past thirty years, was neat and tidy. She opened the drawer of the bedside table and carefully removed the gun. It was shiny black, and terrifyingly cold. She placed it next to the telephone and dialed her daughter's number in Philadelphia. She listened to the echo of the distant ringing. And then there was a soft "Hello?" "Tracy... I just felt like hearing the sound of your voice, darling." "What a nice surprise, Mother." "I hope I didn't wake you up." "No. I was reading. Just getting ready to go to sleep. Charles and I were going out for dinner, but the weather's too nasty. It's snowing hard here. What's it doing there?" Dear God, we're talking about the weather, Doris Whitney thought, when there's so much I want to tell her. And can't. "Mother? Are you there?" Doris Whitney stared out the window. "It's raining." And she thought, How melodramatically appropriate. Like an Alfred Hitchcock movie. "What's that noise?" Tracy asked. Thunder. Too deeply wrapped in her thoughts, Doris had not been aware of it. ...the requirements of a weekly publication, and likewise to confine itself within certain advertised limits, in order that faith might be kept with the public. Although these conditions were made as light as they well could be, the author found it impossible to develope the story in the manner originally intended, and, more especially, was compelled to hurry on events with an improbable rapidity towards the close. In some degree to remedy this obvious defect, various short passages have been inserted, and several new chapters added. With this brief explanation, the tale is commended to the kindness of the reader; 'Beseking hym lowly, of mercy and pite, Of its rude makyng to have compassion.' ____ 5 ELIZABETH GASKELL 6 NORTH AND SOUTH CHAPTER I 'HASTE TO THE WEDDING' 'Wooed and married and a'.' dith!' said Margaret, gently, 'Edith!' But, as Margaret half suspected, Edith had fallen asleep. She lay curled up on the sofa in the back drawing-room in Harley Street, looking very lovely in her white muslin and blue ribbons. If Titania had ever been dressed in white muslin and blue ribbons, and had fallen asleep on a crimson damask sofa in a back drawingroom, Edith might have been taken for her. Margaret was struck afresh by her cousin's beauty. They had grown up together from childhood, and all along Edith had been remarked upon by every one, except Margaret, for her prettiness; but Margaret had never thought about it until...
