A world full of different types of materials- not the fabric materials you buy at spotlight, but the numerous materials used to build houses, construct roads and even make up the air that we breathe. Materials are all around us. Have you ever wondered why salt can be crushed so easily, or why water has such a low melting point? This is due to the chemical properties of the materials and what they are made of!
Everything in the world is made up of atoms. Atoms are the smallest forms of matter. What makes materials the way they are, is the bonds between the atoms in the materials. Every atom contains a nucleus which holds protons and neutrons, with electrons around the outside. Protons are positively charged, electrons are negatively charged …show more content…
Firstly its melting point is quite high at 110°. It is brittle, meaning it is hard, yet is can break easily, it is fragile. Copper sulfate can also conduct electricity in solution, meaning when it is dissolved in water the atoms are free to move around in the solution, therefore moving between metals and creating an electric circuit, hence conducting electricity. The chemical formula of copper sulfate is CuSO4. Cu is copper, S is sulfate and O is oxygen. The 4 means there are 4 oxygen atoms. Copper sulfate is composed of a tightly structured lattice forced together by the electrostatic attraction between positively charged and negatively charged ions, making it an ionic …show more content…
Copper sulfate has a high melting point due to the electrostatic forces of attraction between the positively and negatively charged ions in the lattice, therefore it takes a lot of heat in order to vibrate the ions enough to break apart the bonds and hence break the lattice. These three properties are determined by the bonding between the positively (cations) and negatively (anions) charged ions. Electron arrangement has little to do with determining the properties of copper sulfate and bonding overall helps to better explain the properties of copper

On a laser bond paper the ink produced was tested after being refilled to a pen and was compared to other synthetic commercial ink available in the market. The conductivity and transmittance time , drying time and luminance and adhesion were tested and compared. Results of the test showed that the experimental ink with a proportion of 200 grams nipa palm fruit husk, 100 ml distilled water, 1 gram ferrous sulfate and ½ tablespoon of salt and ½ tablespoon of vinegar produced an output with the highest conductivity and transmittance time, drying time and luminance and adhesion. With the cost of production much lower than that of a commercial ink and having no significant difference in the mean property to the commercial ink the Nipa Palm Fruit Husk Ink proved to be more economical to produce. ...
