We have discussed how the CEOs of four different companies have used these strategies to maintain a competitive edge and excel in their individual markets. We have explored, and collaborated on how the different ways that concentration, vertical integration and diversification are used in the planning function of management.

Concentration Strategy
South West Airlines’ CEO is a focused and determined manager that believes in his company and the services they provide. The company’s concentration strategy focuses on the current and strong business strength they have. They continue that focus on making what they have work better and better every day. Although cost of resources has caused the CEO to have to make some difficult decisions like, laying off employees. He makes it clear that his vision for South West Airlines is one that takes cares of not just the customer, but take cares of the employees as well. By maintaining the current fleet of 737’s, the company saves money on maintenance due to parts for that specific aircraft being low cost. The CEO’s focus is to maintain a satisfied customer base all around, and providing great customer service all at a lower cost.

Corporate Diversification Strategies
The Coca-Cola Company and VF Corporations are both using the Concentric Diversification strategy to expand and grow the companies to their max potential. Both companies are taking advantage of their strengths and using those skills they incorporate it in to new brands and companies they buy out and make them successful. Concentric Diversity focusing on businesses that are in many ways from the product itself to the market it targets. For

Alternative Budget

...Term Paper On Alternative Economic Policies for India based on analysis of the Alternative Budget INTRODUCTION Attempt has been made not to draw a detailed picture of an alternate budget but to understand the macro outline of the budget based on alternative policies. With rising debt and interest burden there was a need for a change in fiscal policy change In the Indian economy. This paper shows the possibility of an alternative change to the IMF dictated budget adopted at that time. A comparison has been made between four scenarios. Scenario I has been drawn up to show the 1994-95 budget if the country would have been persisted with the observed trends of 80s. Scenario II are the projected estimates for 1994-95 if IMF dictated policies are followed. It is not the budget that Finance minister may present. In scenario IV, alternative budget proposal has been detailed out with a real fiscal correction. It has been assumed that the policies are in place for five years. The scenario III is the first year of transition. Changes in taxation both direct and indirect have been done to raise revenue. Expenditures for various sectors have been estimated and the overall impact on the economy has been explained. A comparison between the revised estimates of 1993-94 and alternative budget 1994-95 (Scenario IV) has been done. Finally, the critique has been given with the responses to the critique by Arun Kumar. THEORETICAL BACKGROUND Financing of economic development through taxation-...
