Are We Not Animals Too? A mother cradled her baby in her arms, yet the baby was dead. He was only three-months old. The mother stroked him and rocked him in an attempt to restore life but failed to do so. The mother and baby were gorillas. Many people watched this devastated, not fazed by the fact that they were only animals. Is this not an act of grief? So, along with many other stories like this one the same question arises, do animals have emotions? I emphatically agree they do. We must bear in mind these are just interpretations of what she has as but we cannot rule out the fact her ideas have some evidence behind them. She states ‘One bird, Spike, would balance an object...on top of a half open cupboard door, then wait until it fell onto the head of the next person...’ She states that acts like these show ‘particularly joy.’ I must agree with Esther on this matter that it definitely seems to be that her birds feel joy when the object falls onto someone. I agree because when we play a practical joke on someone we have the same reaction. I understand that these are just assumptions but the birds are responding to the situation. My reasoning for this is that I believe that some people tend to forget that we are also animals, we are at the top of the food chain, but most importantly we are animals. If we do not feel emotion then we are just responding to the situation at hand.There actual mood is not pertinent.That is the same for any animal, big or small. By implying that animals do not have emotion then you are also suggesting we to do not have emotion. Simply because we can talk, read and write it does not mean that we should deny our animal
