Description of organization
Jewel’s Rescue mission is a Non-profit, Non-denominational Christian organization meeting the needs of less fortunate in the county of Merced through emergency short and long-term rehabilitation services. The program will also serve as a rescue mission for some displaced pets.
Jewel’s Rescue Mission was established because of the love and compassion of one woman. As long as I can remember, Jeweline (Jewel) P. Mays opened her home and heart to people and pets of all lifestyles. Her love for Christ kept her humble and prosperous. She rarely missed a day of cooking a hearty meal. Every meal cooked was large enough to feed a small army. There was seldom a day that a stranger was not at our table. Jewel would always save the scraps for animals. All who knew her knew Jewel throughout the community as,”Mom”.
In 2006, Jewel was diagnosed with a rare illness. Physicians informed us the illness would end her life within three years. That news never discouraged her, and her faith in God never waivered. Although her wind capacity was getting shorter as they day went on, she continued going to church until she was no longer able to endure the air outdoors. With all of this going on her life, she kept feeding the hungry and helping those who needed help mentally, spiritually, sometimes physically and financially for the better part of those three years. Towards the end of her life, she was still concerned about a few she had not been able to help in the past. She made us promise to continue on her work and reach, as many as we possibly could, and never forgetting to keep Christ in our works. In trying to keep her work alive and making good on our promise, we have created a rescue mission in her honor, Jewel’s Rescue Mission.
Our organization will assist in helping to further education in order to gain employment for those who seek to better their situations. We will offer a teen program, for troubled teens. Teenage problems may come in the form of abandonment, neglect, addictions, rape, abuse and teen pregnancies.
We will offer parenting classes for all who are interested in becoming better parents (male and female alike). The mission also helps those who may be suffering from addiction, needing help with childcare, we also help deserving parents obtain legal advice in custody hearings.
As stated previously, we will also open our doors to pets in need, small pets, such as cats, dogs and some birds. Because Jewel had a profound fear of reptilian’s under no circumstances will there ever be any sort of animal of that nature allowed. We will enlist the services of licensed veterinarian to assist in the medical care of animals in need. We will also try to find suitable placement for the animals. However, before any animal is adopted a background check on potential owners will be preformed. Depending on funding all animals will be implanted with an identity chip to insure the safe return of the animal should one get lost from its owner.
We encourage all who are interested in adding bible and worship services (not mandatory). We will not enforce our Christian beliefs upon anyone. We are solely here to provide help for those in need.
The Direct Services department of Jewel’s Rescue Mission provides food packages, clothing, some household items, and other essential items to struggling families with children, the working class who may just need a hand, homeless, and anyone who struggles to make ends meet.
During tough economical times one will find it hard to make rent, electric, gas and food, we help many families by providing the basic of necessities to help them make it month to month.
Mission Statement:
Guided by our faith in Christ, our mission is to administer care for the less fortunate in a wide range of services (from providing them with spiritual counseling, food, temporary financial services, clothing and some furnishing for the home). We will not turn anyone in need away.
We will exercise ethical codes in serving our clients. Such as:
• We will serve clients with integrity, competence and compassion, and will treat them with courtesy and respect. We will not allow anyone (staff or clients) to disrespect or cause harm to any of our clients.
• We will offer services in areas in which we are qualified, and will represent those qualifications both, written or verbal communication. We will have licensed counselors, nurses, childcare providers and legal advisors on staff. We will provide copies of their credentials for anyone who is concerned.
• If for some reason we are not qualified to fulfill certain duties, we will make every effort to recommend a qualified organization to assist in that need. We will keep on hand a list of other organizations that are qualified to cover areas of the organization we are not.
• We will handle each case confidentially. Under no circumstance will any clients person information be disclosed without their consent.
• Fees or commissions in our recommendations or services will not influence us. As we are a not for profit organization, the only monetary goods received within the organization will be from stakeholders and or government grants, solely to help in the support of our organization.
• We will seek and maintain an honorable and cooperative organization with other missions’ and will treat them with respect and courtesy. Any and all organizations affiliated with Jewel’s Rescue Mission will also have hold true to these same values.
• We will not advertise our services in a deceptive manner, or misrepresent the organization. Under no circumstance will our organization represent its self in a manner that is untruthful.
Values Statement:
Jewel’s Rescue Mission values are meeting the needs of those in community who may need assistance with clothing, food, or financial assistance, legal advice, childcare, parenting skills, etc.

Our focus is on ensuring that we provide great care for our clients on a daily basis.
Where the Environment Matters
Jewel’s Rescue Mission has an extensive program of environmental and social initiatives, which we feel are improving our community and our environment. We aim to ensure that these values flow on to our stakeholders - our team members, customers, suppliers, shareholders and our community.
Jewel’s Rescue Mission encourages input from community leaders, stakeholders and board members. We gather stakeholder input and information to identify priorities for new grant programs and/or to modify priorities for existing grant programs.
Stakeholder input is obtained in several ways. Jewel’s Rescue Mission conducts stakeholder listening sessions or workshops, some as stand-alone events, some in conjunction with national scientific meetings. The organization staff also gathers stakeholder information from other government and private sector events and publications.
Jewel’s Rescue Mission embraces people experiencing homelessness with the compassion of Christ - giving hope and healing for a changed life - helping them. We help with ending suffering by demonstrating the love of Jesus Christ for all people.
