...PRESCHOOL CLASSROOM Janelle Conlin Early Childhood Curriculum & Methods: ECE311 Instructor: Michael Walter August 10, 2012 PRESCHOOL CLASSROOM Preschool classroom’s fosters an exploratory play environment for children ages four to five to prepare students for private school kindergarten courses and utilizes North Carolina kindergarten standards to develop curriculum. Cumberland County public school system does not have the best reputation for educating students and has created a need for more private schools. Currently, we only offer a preschool program but plan to expand into the elementary school ages. As the new school year approaches I will be redesigning the classroom environment and curriculum by incorporating theories from Reggio Emilia, Creative Curriculum, and High Scope Curriculum along with including state standard activities to cover the main concepts for the core subjects to prepare for Kindergarten. Classroom environment and teaching strategies will incorporate philosophies and theories from Reggio Emilia, Creative Curriculum, High Scope Curriculum, and Piaget’s theory into a comprehensive curriculum design for preschoolers. When developing curriculum it is important for this age group to have several approaches. “Children ages 3–8 benefit from planned, teacher-guided, interactive small-group and large- group experiences” (NAEYC, 2009). “Reggio Emilia programs demonstrate how planning an environment is driven by respect for the rights of the...

...For example, in one of her many poems, “Three Photographs,” the reader and/or viewer is compelled to witness for those unable to speak for themselves. “The eyes of eight women/I don’t know/stare out from this photograph/saying remember.” Another example of her writing of her own experiences can be found in her second book and/or masterpiece, “Bellocq’s Ophelia,” which was published in 2002. In this book of poems she describes vividly her take on the images in light of E. J. Bellocq's early twentieth-century photos of prostitutes in the scandalous Storyville District of New Orleans. Composed for the most part as letters or diary entries by the envisioned Ophelia, the ballads/poems portray her as an object caught in the monocle of an examining white male customer, as a subject surrounded in Bellocq's focal point, and as a lady getting a handle on her part in molding her own particular personality. This book became the Champ of the 2003 Mississippi Institute of Arts and Letters Book Prize, Bellocq's Ophelia...

...perfect and neither are my parents. The hardest part of my life thus far were the events leading to my parent’s divorce. As time progressed, it was evident that their relationship would not last. As a consequence from the divorce, I struggled with my parent’s custody of my siblings and me. I’ve had nights where there was no power or food. I’ve lost friends that were close to me. Upon moving to Kentucky just in the middle of my eighth-grade year, the new scenery and people exacerbated my feelings of loneliness. From being raised in Florida, I felt as if a part of me was being left behind. I would always have to leave behind my identity and opinions whenever problems would arise between my parent’s. When it was time to go, I didn’t say a word because I was scared to. I was pulled and tugged from a place of familiarity, a place I called home. I had to start over. No matter how far I went, my parents issues and my lack of identity followed me like a shadow. These problems resonated in my mind when I started a new school, and consequently, I struggled academically. I didn’t know...

...weapons (2). Apart from that, the name Martin signifies monkey or ape. The above is juxtaposed intentionally with Dickie Delacroix and Harry Jones with an aim of urging the people to be aware of the Ape residing within them. Indeed, “Delacroix has been vulgarized in the story to “Dellacroy,” who becomes the first person to pick a large stone something that encourages others to stone Mrs. Hutchinson. The above is a clear indication of forces against change in the society. The presence of Old Man Martin further symbolizes conservatives whose role is to undermine any attempt to discard old traditions (3). In a nutshell, this is a reliable source for my research since Nebeker has made every possible attempt to identify various facts about the historical context of the short story. Jackson, Shirley. The Lottery. Mankato, Minnesota: The Creative Company, 1948. In this short story Shirley Jackson describes one of the smallest towns in contemporary America. The story revolves around an annual event or ritual referred to as “the lottery.” The author seems to have kept the intended meaning of the short story to herself with an expectation that it will become clear overtime. However, with regards to hostile reactions from readers Jackson was...

...(September 11, 1862 – June 5, 1910) The text under analysis is ‘The ransom of red chief’ written by O’Henry, one of the most famous American short story writers of 19th century. O. Henry’s real name was William Sydney Porter and he was born in Greensboro, North Carolina. Let me start from the summary. The story runs about two crooks - Bill Driscoll and Sam. They decided to pull off a "fraudulent town-lot scheme” but for this scheme they needed money. So, they decided to kidnap a little boy of the wealthy man of town of Summit. But they couldn’t imagine what was waiting for them. This story opens with PROLOGUE where the author introduces to us the beginning of the story. And in the prologue two characters are presented to us: the narrator Sam and his friend Bill Driscoll. This text is written in 1st person narration. O’Henry uses it to create the atmosphere of the situation itself and to give us the opportunity to be involved and to feel ourselves as participants. In the very beginning the author keeps us in suspense with the words: but wait till I tell you. The setting of the story is town of Summit in West Illinois. Further go RISING ACTIONS which include selection of the victim, hiding in the cave, games with the boy and writing a letter to the father of the boy Johnny. Here we meet other characters: a little boy of 10 years, who is described directly and his father, Ebenezer Dorset. But Ebenezer is opposed to Bill, Sam and Johnny as a minor character. While reading the story...

...The purpose of writing this paper is to showcase my skills, special talents, and career desires. By explaining events from my life, I plan to give insight into who I am as a person and what I have to offer to potential employers. I will provide personal experiences, which pertain to me acquiring certain skill sets and also research about the graphic design market. My goal in this paper is to show the drive, passion, and love I have for becoming a graphic designer and artist. To achieve this goal, I have organized my paper into four main sections. In the first section, I provide an account of four important events in my younger years: winning a drawing contest for a local church, taking art lessons with a very talented local artist in the low country, winning first prize at the Coastal Carolina State Fair, and working for a small graphics business. In the second section, I discuss my transition from high school into college with art, the skills I have attained, and my MBTI test results. My paper draws to an end with a third section that offers research of the graphic design market which is the field I chose to major in while attending college concludes with a fourth section that discusses the importance of what success means to me. I also include a resume attached after my bibliography. Before I can begin the examination of my four main sections, however, I need to provide some insight into who I am; it is to this that I now turn. I’m a simple southern girl who was born and...

...MACBETH LINDA NEAL UNDERWOOD S E R I E S E D I T O R S : W. GEIGER ELLIS, ED.D., ARTHEA J. S. REED, PH.D., UNIVERSITY OF GEORGIA, EMERITUS and UNIVERSITY OF NORTH CAROLINA, RETIRED A Teacher’s Guide to the Signet Classic Edition of William Shakespeare’s Macbeth 2 INTRODUCTION William Shakespeare developed many stories into excellent dramatizations for the Elizabethan stage. Shakespeare knew how to entertain and involve an audience with fast-paced plots, creative imagery, and multi-faceted characters. Macbeth is an action-packed, psychological thriller that has not lost its impact in nearly four hundred years. The politically ambitious character of Macbeth is as timely today as he was to Shakespeare's audience. Mary McCarthy says in her essay about Macbeth, "It is a troubling thought that Macbeth, of all Shakespeare's characters, should seem the most 'modern,' the only one you could transpose into contemporary battle dress or a sport shirt and slacks." (Signet Classic Macbeth) Audiences today quickly become interested in the plot of a blindly ambitious general with a strong-willed wife who must try to cope with the guilt engendered by their murder of an innocent king in order to further their power. The elements of superstition, ghosts, and witchcraft, though more readily a part of everyday life for the Renaissance audience, remain intriguing to modern teenagers. The action-packed plot, elements of the occult, modern characterizations, and themes of import to...

...Google raised $1.67 billion in August of 2004. Today, Google has over 12,000 employees in offices throughout the world. Google’s mission statement and corporate culture reflect a philosophy that you can “make money without doing evil” and that “work should be challenging and the challenge should be fun”. These beliefs dominate life at Google. The official mission statement of the company is to “organize the world’s information and make it universally accessible and useful.” In 2006, Google was selected by MBA students as the ideal place to work. In 2007 and 2008 Fortune Magazine named Google the Number 1 employer in their annual 100 Best Companies to Work For. * Google Company Culture Google is a high-energy, fast paced work environment. While the dress code might be “casual” the company attracts and retains some of the brightest minds in the technology industry. There is a work hard, play hard atmosphere. The Google Mountain View, CA headquarters (aka “the Googleplex”) is a campus-like environment. There are workout facilities, a café, well stocked snack rooms, and a dorm like environment. View the Google Office Descriptions for more details. In my opinion, one of the coolest programs at Google is the 20% time program. All Engineers at Google are encouraged to spend 20% of their work time on projects that interest them. Not only does this keep Engineers happy and challenged, it’s also good business: some estimates put half of all new product launches can be directly attributed...

...employment, or the pursuance of a higher education. According to Olivares, Burton, and Cullen (1996) upon release these offenders also deal with stigmas, loss of job opportunities, friendships, family relationships, and denial of civil rights. When it comes to the loss of job opportunities, a recent study has shown that most employers have hired at least one person with a felony conviction (Sawnson, Langfitt-Reese & Bond, 2012). Employers encourage job seekers with criminal records to be honest and willing to discuss their involvement with the justice system. Most employers did not have strict policies concerning hiring criminals and this is a plus. Convicted job seekers should follow standard job hunting techniques, but also be creative such as finding dependable references and making face-to-face contact. This should help the employer get a good idea of how the job seeker is trying to move forward and change their lives. Temporary job services often offer felons jobs and this could help them get the experience they need and references to re-enter the regular job market. There are day labor...
