Idea Background
EM Technologies
Modern business innovation is more of re-designing the wheel than originating one. In most developed nations, it could be the ability to accurately find out what is happening beyond the borders. Effective Micro-organism (EM) refers to a technology that blends anaerobic organisms in farming, medical and nutritional supplements. According to the official EMRO site, the technology was originated by Professor Teruo Higa in 1980s from the University of Ryukyus in Okinawa. Japan. Higa established that there are three groups of microorganisms in every medium (air, water, soil and the human intestines). He also claimed that the EM ratio could be positive or negative and that it is possible to supplement a medium to the desired result.
Organic farming systems are rapidly being adopted all over the world with the result of better production and output per acre. Reports by International Kyusei Nature farming Centre inform that several states in Japan have worked with EM for decades and experienced excellent results. In Africa and parts of Asia, farmers continue to use ancient farm tools only that this time continued use of in-organic fertilizers has killed their soil. Organic farming assures a lasting solution to food shortage in developing world and has several other environmental friendly uses. (Szymanski & Patterson, 2003).
The overall strategy
To introduce Organic farming and EM-1 technology to the developing nations with the aim of profit is the only way out of the mud. EM may be common in Japan but in some parts of Asia and Africa, not so much. The plan in this line of product is to make money from empowering potential clients (farmers) by providing them with an alternative to in-organic fertilizers which have dilated their soil. The strategy is to show the farmer what damage the sole use of chemical is, and offer a solution by teaching via one-to –one group meeting or monthly magazines. EM-1 is the original product which will be later used to make Organic fertilizer and other products. To be an exporter of EM a certificate from (EMRO) will be required, in addition, a regulatory framework for compliance as well as a strategy for environmental compliance is mandatory.
There should be adequate time and special focus to employ Design for Excellence (DFX). For an entrepreneur there is no short-cut to designing high-quality products that are well manufactured, tested, shipped and supported. The initial three products will have to pass the cost, reliability, manufacturing and procurement tests. To achieve (DFX), the overall logistics must meet the minimum thresholds.EM-1 will be sourced from the company EMRO, and The two other by-products are made by mixing the right amounts of solvents, The packaging and later selling is a business opportunity.
Features of the target market
The target market includes farmers with small and medium farms. These farmers are mainly subsistence farmers, micro business farmers who have not worked with EM technologies. Developing nations have majority of their people as farmers and therefore easier to create niche markets especially for training purposes. For large-scale farmers, the assumption is that to have survived in the agri-business, they must have applied the technology.
Availability of the target market in efforts to promote a product will be easier and less costly as with proper communication two officers will do a demonstration in the targeted regions. The target market may not offer premium prices, however the high numbers will translate into more sales. Recent reports inform that majority of the people own or have easy access to the phone, this indicates that after sales support will be cheap and convenient.
Why that target market is attractive
A developing nation approach is perfect given the major problem with the governments in place is in feeding its people. The technology will also solve the poor water and sanitation standards by promoting an adoption of better waste management and protection of water catchment areas. With the current trend in population profiles and projections, the developing nations have no option, but to embrace the technology. Most governments are quick to subsidize the compliance rates and this gives the venture a chance to test the market.
A positioning strategy
A simple survey comprising of qualitative and a randomized primary data of the existing competitors will reveal the positioning options. Weinstein (2013) suggests that an entrepreneur embracing the use of concurrent engineering will benefit from the assurance that high-quality products from EM-1 are built at the lowest possible cost. This will be facilitated by delegating an experienced project manager and assembling a team that will be overseeing the manufacture of organic fertilizer and the fermented compost all from EM-1.Since business is a risk, an entrepreneur as suggested by Product Realization Group, should mitigate risks by focusing on the basic product features, ensuring feasibility studies are done earlier, setting realistic goals and applying risk assessment tools.

Identify the Purpose of this case analysis, making sure to state the Point-of-View you are using. Then, make a list of key Assumptions that will be used in your analysis, with any key Implications. There should be a logical flow to your assumptions – maybe organized by topic or in order of importance. As an example, there is a pricing assumption about which demographics get the highest ad rates. Once you’ve completed a thorough Introduction, you will work through several analyses: 1. Complete the Customer Segments Overview (note that this is a Concept on the Critical Thinking wheel) as shown at the end of this assignment and discussed in class. You will need to pull Data from the case itself + add your own Inferences + try to find additional Data by searching the University Library databases. Please make sure to include your own insight above and beyond the information listed in the case. 2. Complete the Profit Potential analysis including your rationale and Inferences in the table to add more rigor to your assessment of the segments. ...when marketing themselves in the employment world. Having a clear understanding as to what their individual behavior skills and competencies are, along with a better understanding of the individual’s strengths and weaknesses when critical thinking is involved can help in determining the individuals occupational interest. In conjunction to this, work cultural values and preferences can play into what groups the individual will be able to identify with on a professional level and allow them to perform and communicate more effectively. An excerpt from Career Competencies for Managing Cross-Cultural Transition by Nancy Arthur, explains that “people need to be prepared for working with others whose cultural background is different to their own…a frame work for understanding…career development practices need to be expanded…in a world that is increasingly characterized by cross-cultural transition” (Arthur, 2000). The business communications course taken by this author revealed various things from her perspective. While the career assessments have revealed additional fields of interest, the course has also given her insight as to how the various forms of communications are channeled, specific names given to various forms of arguments, and what details should be identified in various forms of fallacies. Prior to this course, she thought of herself as and a good listener. But now, she will be able to call out the obvious by a given name and continue to utilize her critical thinking through...

...Thinking Critically Simulation Review Joslynn Smith Jill Clayton Brenda Robinson Bernadette Brandhagen-Mayor Leon Crutcher Bill Schmelzle MGT/350 7/6/10 Melvin Jeppson Thinking Critically Simulation Review Problem solving tools and techniques As a group we decided on using a couple of problem-solving tools, brainstorming and cause and effect/fishbone method. The first step we did was to define some of the problems facing Credenhill’s. The biggest problems were; sales falling continuously for the past eight weeks, (especially in the high-end product categories), legal action notice from the city, regarding a disability access law, high competition with a new store a block away, and a loss of a manager and employees to the competition, $80,000 unsold inventory, problems with the Wide Area Network (WAN), and unhappy employees. We use the Man-Method-Material-Machine format to help us organize our brainstorming solutions into categories. [pic] We started using brainstorming, all ideas presented were discussed and considered. Ideas were then added them to the fishbone under the correct category. It helped for all of us to brainstorm, generating numerous ideas to help fix the problems. After we were done with our brainstorming of ideas, each team member presented their idea more thoroughly. A letter was assigned a letter to each idea on the diagram, and each group member was given a piece of paper. On the paper we categorized the problems...

...Business Classes Performed In Two Colleges To Improve Critical Thinking Skills Of The Participating Students Frank DeSimone, Department of Business Administration, Wagner College, Staten Island, NY John Buzza, Center for Entrepreneurship, Monmouth University, Long Branch, NJ ABSTRACT The motivation for this paper comes from need, need for our students to learn not only subject matter through traditional methods in a classroom, but foundational learning through experiences obtained directly in the workplace. The terminology used today for this student experience is referred to as experiential learning. This experiential learning comes in two forms, either (1) learning by yourself or (2) through experiential education (learning through programs established by others). You can kindly refer to learning by yourself as “nature’s way of learning” as it occurs as a direct participation in the life cycle. However experiential education can be defined more succinctly as a structured approach, using experiences and the direction of others to create the learning curve. The issue at hand is simple - does participatory (experiential) education create critical thinkers among our students and make them more aware of and able to more easily solve the problem(s) at hand? Our diligence has focused on two distinctly different courses in two different semesters (fall 2011 and spring 2012) in two different business disciplines (business marketing and entrepreneurship) at two distinctly different...

Critical Thinking and Society

...Critical Thinking and Society PHL 458 March 17, 2014 Critical Thinking and Society Critical and creative thinking is important in order to be successful in the work place. Challenges arise daily that require the management team to think on their feet in both critical and creative ways. However there are times when they do not have the time needed to really think about how to handle a situation. A challenging guest came into one of the restaurants and was giving the host and cashier a difficult time. This guest had been in the restaurant before and is a constant challenge every time. Management usually knows what to expect when they see this guest walk into the restaurant. This particular day the manager on duty had had enough of this guest and his reoccurring challenges. The guest started to complain about something and the manager on duty had asked the guest why he is always so rude and if he was that unhappy every time why does he keep returning. Of course this upset the guest even further and caused a big scene. Regardless of how the guest acted it was not professional for the manager to approach the guest in that way. Had this manager stopped and used her creative and critical thinking she most likely could have approached this guest in a less offensive way. Free Will, Truth, Knowledge, and Opinion Free will is having the ability to make a decision even though a person may have grown up or been conditioned to think a certain way. Truth is something that will always...

Social Media

...Research Paper Template Your name: Clinton Butler Your Capella email address: cbutler23capellauniversity.edu The course number: BUS3004 Instructor name: Mrs. Holly Date submitted: Aug 11, 2013 Title of your paper: Social Media in the work place Introduction Some employers use the internet to hire future employees meaning most of their applications are done online. Some employer uses it to promote their business, for examples they use it to put different advertisement ads out. The main problem with networking in the workplace is that most people use the internet for the wrong reason. For example a hiring manager supposed to online looking for new employees that fit the needs of an opening a business may have and instead they are looking at porn. Not only have the company paid him all day to do his job that he is not during they still don’t have any potential on the opening that they have available. So either way it go the company is losing money. So if you look at it networking can be a good thing and it could be a bad thing in a business stand point. I don’t think banning social networking from business should be an option but I do think that it should limited access on what sites that they may and may not be able to access form a work computer. If they do get caught during something on a computer that is not work related should be punished or they should just lose their job all around. I think that if they make it clear what the internet is supposed...

What Is Critical Thinking

...Reading 1.3-1: What is critical thinking? 1 Reading 1.3-1: What is critical thinking? The world of accounting has changed dramatically over the past 50 years. In 1965, the key skills expected of a new CGA could best be described as ―technical‖ — the application of accounting, auditing, and other related skills to the recording of transactions and the generation of financial statements. However, by the mid-1990s, the notion of competency-based assessment had replaced this older model of skills assessment. The development of a competency map identifying key skills required for the accounting profession indicated that a key skill is the ability to think critically. Simply put, critical thinking is a type of thinking that questions assumptions. The Critical Thinking Community at http://www.criticalthinking.org/ provides the following definition: Critical thinking is self-guided, self-disciplined thinking which attempts to reason at the highest level of quality in a fair-minded way. Critical thinking can be applied to any course in the CGA Program of Professional Studies. It entails the examination of those structures or elements of thought implicit in all reasoning, which consists of  Purpose, problem, or question at issue  Assumptions  Concepts  Empirical grounding  Reasoning leading to conclusions  Implications and consequences  Objections from alternative viewpoints  Frame of reference ―Critical,‖ as used in the term ―critical thinking,‖ relates to the importance...

Critical and Creative Thinking in Society

...Critical and Creative Thinking in Society Short Essays PHL/458 December 1, 201X XXX Introduction Critical and creative thinking are an important part of everyday life. First, this paper will describe a situation of public interest in which these could have been used for a better outcome. Next, it will define free will, truth, knowledge and opinion, how they are used to form thoughts and the role they play in critically assessing situations. It will also identify three hindrances to the critical thinking process with an experience. Lastly, it will identify a message in advertising, how it was perceived, and the reality of the advertisement and distinguish between perception and the reality of the message. Situation of Public Interest The current situation of public interest that will be discussed is the selling of swastika ridden wrapping paper by Walgreens. Walgreens was carrying the wrapping paper in celebration of Hanukkah when customers started to notice the swastikas. This is clearly offensive to the Jewish community who would be purchasing the wrapping paper. As a result the product has been pulled from the shelves (Huffington Post, 2014). This situation could have been avoided if a quality assurance individual or product reviewer was consulted. It is those individuals job to review the product and gage how consumers will perceive the product. The review process should include a checklist with critical thinking questions one it. One example would be...
