DS Reynolds: Career Analysis

The most influential manager I know would have to be one of my former Drill Sergeants (DS), DS Reynolds. DS Reynolds truly cared about those under him. He was passionate, honest, and genuine with one of the most important jobs in the military that he took very seriously. Being a DS means that you have the lives of many future Soldiers that you’re accountable for and their families. In todays world of business being a passionate manager shows your employees that you are confident and willing to go the extra mile for them and the business. Being honest with your employees are equally as important. People want the information truthfully and honestly not smoke and mirrors or a “beating around the bush” approach. I’ve always found that being open

Generally, those journalists do a competent job of reporting on the prospect’s record. In the case of Governor George W. Bush, Texas reporters had written numerous stories about his failed businesses in the oil patch, the dubious land grab and questionable funding behind a new stadium for Bush’s baseball team, the Texas Rangers, and his various political contradictions and hypocrisies while serving in Austin. I was one of those Texas journalists. I spent about a decade...

The Logistic Map

...Chaotic Growth with the Logistic Model of P.-F. Verhulst Hugo Pastijn Department of Mathematics, Royal Military Academy B-1000 Brussels, Belgium Hugo.Pastijn@rma.ac.be Summary. Pierre-Fran¸ois Verhulst was born 200 years ago. After a short biograc phy of P.-F. Verhulst in which the link with the Royal Military Academy in Brussels is emphasized, the early history of the so-called “Logistic Model” is described. The relationship with older growth models is discussed, and the motivation of Verhulst to introduce different kinds of limited growth models is presented. The (re-)discovery of the chaotic behaviour of the discrete version of this logistic model in the late previous century is reminded. We conclude by referring to some generalizations of the logistic model, which were used to describe growth and diffusion processes in the context of technological innovation, and for which the author studied the chaotic behaviour by means of a series of computer experiments, performed in the eighties of last century by means of the then emerging “micro-computer” technology. 1 P.-F. Verhulst and the Royal Military Academy in Brussels In the year 1844, at the age of 40, when Pierre-Fran¸ois Verhulst on November c 30 presented his contribution to the “M´moires de l’Acad´mie” of the young e e Belgian nation, a paper which was published the next year in “tome XVIII” with the title: “Recherches math´matiques sur la loi d’accroissement de la e population” (mathematical investigations of the law of...

...INSURANCE ADVISORS EFFECTIVENESS FOR PUBLIC AND PRIVATE INSURER: A DEMOGRAPHIC STUDY Krishan Kumar Pandey*Manisha Pandey** Manish Kerwar***Ashutosh Khare**** Dharmendra Singh***** Abstract : Few years back insurance was an arcane word for all of us. Insurance is no longer an unexciting business and the insurance advisor an apologetic salesman. New entries have actually changed the rules of the game in the insurance industry. One such change that has made a huge positive impact in the minds of Indian consumers is the product innovation by the insurance companies. New products are being launched; new distribution channels opened and thousands of sales advisers and managers are being recruited every month. This rapid change is demanding new regulations, new methods of management, new methods of operation and ofcourse considerable development in knowledge, attitude and skills of the workforce. Such times demand business/ output focused people who think widely, are confident about taking risks and decisions and prioritise their own and others’ actions to achieve the business need. Without these attributes the growth pattern that has begun will not be sustained. So are these attributes being developed in people? People know what they should do but they do not necessarily know how to do it. This study is well ahead to evaluate the effectiveness of Insurance Advisors. *, * * Faculty in Prestige Institute of Management, Gwalior * * * , * * * * , * * * * * Alumni, Prestige Institute...

Accounting

...P R E FAC E THE ACCOUNTING ENVIRONMENT Accounting is the most employable, sought-after major for 2009, according to entrylevel job site CollegeGrad.com. One reason for this interest is found in the statement by former Secretary of the Treasury and Economic Advisor to the President, Lawrence Summers. He noted that the single-most important innovation shaping our capital markets was the idea of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP). We agree with Mr. Summers. Relevant and reliable financial information is a necessity for viable capital markets. Without it, our markets would be chaotic, and our standard of living would decrease. This textbook is the market leader in providing the tools needed to understand what GAAP is and how it is applied in practice. Mastery of this material will be invaluable to you in whatever field you select. Through many editions, this textbook has continued to reflect the constant changes taking place in the GAAP environment. This edition continues this tradition, which has become even more significant as the financial reporting environment is exploding with major change. Here are three areas of major importance that are now incorporated extensively into this edition of the text. A New Way of Looking at Generally Accepted Principles (GAAP) Learning GAAP used to be a daunting task, as it is comprised of many standards that vary in form, completeness, and structure. Fortunately, the profession has recently developed the Financial Accounting...
