...Tayeh Sonya Tayeh is a popular and well renowned dance teacher and jazz and contemporary choreographer of today. She was born in Brooklyn, NY and raised in Detroit Michigan with her two sisters and half brother. One of the most interesting things about this groundbreaking choreographer is her lack of background in professional dance training. Growing up Sonya never had any interest in dance and participated in contacts sports such as soccer and basketball. It wasn't until she entered high school when her interest was sparked. As she entered high school and earned a new wind of confidence in herself, she began frequenting parties and dancing for the party go-ers there. This is where her need to be on a stage began.
