The development of human beings can be a difficult topic to fully consume and understand, seeing as we ourselves are experiencing these various stages as we speak. To understand and predict what impacts and shapes our lives is essential in providing the utmost care and research for those around us. These impacts typically consist of biological, psychological, and social-cultural influences from various sources surrounding an individual. Recording and researching these topics have given us the opportunity to further our education and overall comprehension on the subject. And as a developmental psychology expert, conducting experiments and gaining information has given my field the ability to apply these theories and data into realistic life …show more content…
Physical development such as puberty begin to take place and the brain is able to develop more independent, adult like qualities and processes. This transitions promotes the ability to control urges, construct propositions, produce rational conclusions, and establish independence from parents/guardians. During this stage, I would recommend teaching the importance of self control and awareness of consequences. An experiment conducted by Walter Mischel showed the effects of delayed gratification and its role in development in further stages. It was observed that when a child delayed gratification, they exhibited ideal qualities (I.e. healthier, higher salary, increased happiness) in their future happenings. This quality of learning and making a reasonable judgment affected how the individual made decisions further in life, paving a beneficial mindset for their following years. Throughout all these stages, one thing I strongly recommend would be the daily activity of exercise within this life stage. Though this behavior can be beneficial throughout any stage, it seems to have greater effects on those of later development stages. Exercise is encouraged due to its benefits not only physically, but mentally for an individual. It is able to enhance memory, lower the risk of cognitive decline, and promote neurogenesis. The activities don’t necessarily have to be strenuous, just conducted enough to upkeep the fitness of the brain. Exercise is extremely noted as a necessary tool for healthy human development and should definitely be integrated in the everyday life of the adulthood

Freud argued that personality develops through a series of stages in which the energies are focused on certain erogenous areas (Kilborne, 2008). This psychosexual energy or libido is described as the driving force behind behaviour. On this basis, Freud developed his theory of Psychosexual development. In the development of his theories, Freud's main concern was with sexual desire, defined in terms of formative drives, instincts and appetites that result in the formation of an adult personality (Nolen-Hoeksema et al., 2003).
