...I am writing about my former company, Avery Dennison Office Products UK, manufacturers, marketers, and distributors of Avery branded, and own brand products. The route to market is complex as there are many distribution levels involved. The route consists of selling to distributors, wholesaler, retailers, superstores, mail order companies, dealers, and contract stationers. They all continue to sell to their customers, and the end users. We also exported goods to inter-companies of Avery Office Products, all over the world. Losing one wholesaler, through poor service, would have a massive impact, and cost the company tens of thousands of pounds. Avery produced own brand products for stationery retailers, such as Office World, and Staples, who each have between 60 and 80 stores UK wide. Losing one of these retail superstore own brand contracts, would mean dramatic financial loses. Avery has created a strong tradition of quality, service, and innovation, and strives for customer service excellence. Basic Customer Service Describe your organisation’s customer service by briefly describing at least two legal rights of your customers, two of your organisations commitment to customers; and the manager’s responsibilities in relation to customer service. Our customers have several legal rights, three of which are listed below: Sale of Goods Act 1979 which refers to goods, not services. The acts states that the goods must be: Fit for purpose. Of...

...Dear Ken Higgins, I work for Avery Dennison’s Graphics Division and we attended the International Sign Association Expo trade show in Las Vegas on the dates January 20-22, 2012. During our time at the trade show, we ran into a few issues. Here is a list of the issues we encountered: 1. The phone line to be used for credit card transactions was installed in wrong part of booth, requiring a 2-hour delay of the remaining set up on Jan. 19 (the day before the show began). This was an obvious setback for our booth. We could not really begin our show until the phone was setup. 2. The electricity failed twice on the first day of the show (Jan. 20) due to a faulty electrical junction box, shutting down the attendee lead retrieval device and interrupting a speaker doing a Power Point presentation of Avery Dennison’s products. Our entire presentation was stalled twice because when the power goes out, it forces us to reboot everything. This causes an even greater time delay to have everything up and running again. 3. The catering service arrived late for a VIP event in the booth on the second day of the show (Jan. 21) causing a 15-minute delay to the event. This was a major inconvenience since it was our VIP event and we wanted to everything running perfectly. The delay in the catering service made our VIP event seem unprofessional. Based on the events that happened, I was hoping to receive part of our transaction costs back for these costs and inconveniences. The total costs of the...

Dennison Manufacturing Co. iii. South-western Ohio Steel Inc. iv. Insurance companies D. Thesis Statement: An examination of four companies that have successfully implemented activity-based costing/activity-based management has led to my recommendation that transitioning to activity-based costing is the right move for our company. Although there are many benefits to activity-based costing, we would directly benefit from the relative ease of implementation for a company our size, the ability to view our product costs differently and target process improvements which in turn will lead to an improved line of products and allow us to be more competitive in our market niche. ...The history of the TPA stretches back to the fall of 1918. In September of that year the Toronto Police Union was chartered by the Trades and Labour Congress. Facing low wages and seriously sub-standard working conditions, the then members of the Toronto Police Force saw unionization as a means of improving their workplace and gaining respect from the employer. An indication of the labour relations climate of the day is provided by the Police Commission’s response. The Union was swiftly denounced and the Commission refused to recognize its existence. The Union’s Secretary, Gordon Ellis, was summarily fired for allegedly failing to properly perform his duties as a police officer. The Police Commissioner, Magistrate Colonel Dennison, stated...

...Midterm Paper -Medical Illness Associated with Depression Ardon Cato Walden University Social and Behavioral Epidemiology PUBH 8310-1 Dr.M.Agha April 14, 2012 Midterm Paper -Medical Illness Associated with Depression Diabetes and Depression The association between depression and diabetes has been recognized for many years, but the nature of this relationship remains uncertain, not only is depression one of the worst illnesses known to humankind, it is also implicated in another major chronic disease in humankind-diabetes. The relationship is attributed to a variety of mechanisms but the causal relationship between these illnesses, its direction, and underlying mechanisms, remain unclear (Golden et al., 2008). Depression is common in patients with common medical conditions, it can strike anyone, and it is one of the most comorbid psychiatric disorders associated with diabetes, and has an impact on treatment and prognosis. The rigors of managing diabetes can be stressful and can lead to symptoms of depression, at any given time, most people with diabetes do not have depression, but people with diabetes have a greater risk of depression, than people without diabetes. Just like denial, depression can get patients into a vicious cycle, and it can block good diabetes self care if someone is depressed, and has no energy, as most of the diabetes management are not automatic body functions but requires conscious actions...

...this clump and benefit from the stability and protection that the clumps provide, but the introduction of a unnatural occurrence such as pollution can affect the way these animal feed, breed and breathe. The main source of pollution that comes into contact with marine ecosystems is sewerage which contains waste materials from everyday human activities such as slaughterhouse wastes, animal remains, domestic wastes, industrial wastes, faecal matter and many others (Islam, Tanaka, 2004). The addition of these waste materials leads to an increase in the nutrients in the water and the main nutrient is nitrogen. Nitrogen is a limiting nutrient in natural marine ecosystems and keeps the growth of marine plants in check (Constanzo, O’Donohue, Dennison, Loneragan, & Thomas, 2001). The first organisms to benefit from this increase are algae which increase rapidly in...

...wrongdoings that they have done. Nixon should have been impeached. And probably would have because the numbers and the senate’s showed there was enough votes to impeach him. When Richard Nixon was pardoned by president Ford it did not set a good precedent for our nation. It became clear that a president or a politician can break the law and a successor can clear him of all his or her wrongdoings without any input from the judicial system. Although Nixon’s pardon was controversial it is rumored that Nixon made a deal to have resign only if he was given a full pardon (Herbers, 2010). It was sold to the public as the better thing to do for the country, but letting a person go that has clearly broken the law is not a good thing for our country (Dennison, 2012). The Watergate disgrace taught our country not to trust presidents or politicians for that matter. If our country learned that politicians are no different than anyone else. Politicians can and will break the law to continue or improve their careers. After Watergate, laws were put in place of the two make candidates more forthcoming with the administration of their campaign funds. Watergate has left such an impression on this country in the media that every time there is some sort of scandal...

...the process to organize into a labor union and bring an organization to fall subject to the rules of a labor union. Employees pursue labor unions due to problems and issues maintaining equity amongst all employees. Achieving equity for the greatest number of the members drives a union’s interest. If employees, particularly labor employees, feel as if they are not being treated fairly and are not receiving the same benefits as all employees, their work morale will be low, reduced performance, reluctance to take on extra duties, and possibly, high turnover. Avery Dennison is a company that manufactures and distributes display graphics, labeling, and packaging materials, retail graphic embellishments and RFID tags for companies around the world to use to engage with customers and manage their inventories. Avery Dennison’s company bases range from apparel to transportation, architecture, and healthcare. Avery Dennison has approximately 25,000 employees; as a manufacturing and distribution organization, there is likely to be a large number of labor employees in its various locations. With such a large number of employees and labor employees, one can assume that if there is no union in place, it is possible for turnover to be high. In a research study, study shows “strong evidence that turnover is lower in heavily unionized industries and among unionized workers than in nonunionized settings” (Delery, et. al, 2000). Unions are commonly formed on the bases of compensation/pay, hours...

...As it was the case of Dennison, et al (2016) who used a 3T Siemens Trio Scanner in order to examine reward reactivity and reaction time. They looked at specific brain areas that would be affected by the tasks: pallidum and basal ganglia. There are many different ways to measure resilience. Each study used similar forms of collecting data, but with different measures. Characteristics of participants: age, gender, and race/ethnicity had an impact on how these measures were chosen. One thing that the studies had in common is the purpose of their studies. Their objectives include to identify specific factors contributing to resilience and providing counselors with this information so they can apply it with their...

...Abstract: The main purpose of this project is to find out the opportunity and obstacles that women in senior management position have to face. Therefore some variables need to be interpreted to make the understanding more clear about workplace discrimination faced by women. In our survey we have used discrimination, family and child, company environmental factors, mentors, culture, recognition and career advancement as our variables. Introduction With the modern work environment emphasizing feminine relationship-building skills to the exclusion of masculine competitive instincts, the idea that women make better leaders than men is gaining ground. But many women in conjugal life do not feel comfortable to play dual role in family and children and career. Women have to face critical problem during cooperation with male workers. Developing field of the "psychology of work satisfaction” is a key determinant of effective career planning for organizations, and both for man and woman. Efficiency of women to succeed professionally has been acknowledged all over the world. Nevertheless gender discrimination in the workplace did exist and still continues in one form or the other. With better educational opportunities more and more women are opting for financial independence by working towards a stable career. Today almost every field that was earlier touted as being men only has been pervaded by women. If a woman qualifies on the basis of all the requirements of a profession,...

...Do the Hawthorne Studies truly deserve to be recognised as producing a fundamental change in the development of management thought? The Hawthorne Studies were a set of studies carried out by Western Electric between 1924 and 1932 in conjunction with researchers from the Harvard Business School, led by Elton Mayo, at their Hawthorne Works plant (Sonnenfeld 1985 p. 112). Researchers initially set out to find the effects of lighting upon levels of production, but ultimately the evidence gathered lead to a significant shift in management thought: from Scientific Management to Human Relations (Hassard 2012 p. 1432). The methods of the studies and their originality have been censured by some scholars, some of whom feel this invalidates the findings and therefore the significance of the studies, but, despite their flaws, it is impossible to deny the far reaching influence of these studies upon the development of management thought. Scientific management was developed by Frederick Taylor to improve industrial efficiency (Taylor 1911), it was this theory of management which Western Electric was using to direct their employees at the time the Hawthorne Studies commenced. Some of the key principles of the theory were: that managers should scientifically determine how a task should be completed most efficiently and; that managers should then select the best person for the job, train them to do their tasks efficiently, and monitor performance to ensure these specifications are met (Law...

Robert Wood Johnson Foundation sponsored the IOM 2010 report, which is viewed as one of the first attempt involving the future of nursing (Institute of Medicine, 2011). A study was organized to research the numerous ways in which nurses can transform and attempt to find solutions to improve health and organize a patient-centered health care system. The report mainly sought to develop a conventional nursing structure for the future, so that the diverse population of United States can receive quality, affordable care. The impact of the IOM report on nursing education The report by IOM has strongly influences the field of education for nursing. The health sector is constantly improving at a maximum pace. To keep up with the constant changes, nursing staff must update their education level. This will help them adhere to the requirements of the evolving health care framework, which can be accomplished by advanced education and specialization (Rubenfeld & Scheffer, 2010). Due to the advancement of the healthcare industry, physicians are encountering new challenges and difficulties that were not present in the past. For this reason...

...INTERGOVERNMENTAL RELATIONS IN FEDERAL SYSTEMS 39 7.5| INDEPENDENCE The actions and decisions of intergovernmental relations must be free from undue influence from political or private interests. They must have high-level commitment. The Productivity Commission has a very important role in Australia’s economic competitiveness in identifying reform priorities for Australia, and conducting detailed research and making recommendations on potential solutions. The Productivity Commission’s contribution to the understanding of our federal system has been seen in a number of reports it has produced, including the recent compilation of materials from the 2006 Roundtable Proceedings in Canberra entitled Productive Reform in a Federal System. The Productivity Commission’s role in federal–state relations is limited however: + The research priorities are set by the Commonwealth Government (and therefore potentially guided by political interests of the day rather than long-term objectives) and there is limited opportunity for the Productivity Commission to set its own work priorities. + There is no ‘buy-in’ by the state governments (either in terms of the direction of the Productivity Commission’s work agenda, the funding of the Commission or the outcomes). + There is no requirement for the Commonwealth Government to respond to the reports of the Productivity Commission, and therefore less accountability for the findings. Two considerations...
