...Godot ve Beklemek - Oya İşeri Gever Birbirlerine takma isimleriyle seslenen iki avare, kır yolunda, kuru, yapraksız bir ağacın dibinde buluşurlar. Godot’nun gelmesini beklemektedirler. ...At the start of my junior year of High School, I decided to join a leadership team called Knight Crew. Knight Crew is a select group of upperclassmen who are dedicated to helping freshman transition from middle to high school. I chose to become part of Knight Crew because I participated in a similar program at my middle school and had a rewarding experience helping younger kids adjust to a new school. Knight Crew also consisted of a smaller group of four upperclassmen who continued to teach a group of 20 freshman throughout the year. In my group, I was placed with two juniors, Eli and Didi, and another senior, Ben. We each had a variety of characteristics that ultimately led to the success of our team. For example, Ben provided humor during...

...Subject Name: Marketing Management Case No. 1 TIC- A Haven to Fun & Frolic Thakur was very happy, ecstatic in fact, choked with emotions, he flashed the bank draft of Rs. 5000 he was holding in the right hand and told all the young students sitting on the concrete slabs strewn all around TIC and enjoying their CNN (twin pleasure of caffeine and nicotine), “Do you know Pant? That lamboo got confirmed posting in Pune in TELCO… Arre yaar, the same tall lanky fellow who strummed the guitar… the one always trying to impress the Lucknow BT girl from CBSH…arre yaar all those angrezi gaane wala, what u call them… yes, yes… arre yaar… Dhillon songs.” Thakur had cultivated this habit of saying ‘arre yaar’ before every sentence he spoke and well, students had by now deciphered the Morse code … Thakur wanted to convey… ‘Dylan’ not ‘Dhillon’ songs. Most of the engineering students knew which biotechnology ma’am of College of Basic Science and Humanities was being referred to. It was routine affair at TIC; the young students knew what exactly Thakur meant… their Mechanical Engineer super-senior Manish Pant, the one who loved to strum Bob Dylan songs probably cleared his khaata (balance money to be paid) with Thakur. Thakur knew that they would always pay even when they left the campus… often substantially more than they owed him. Their existed an unwritten rule between Thakur and his beneficiaries, of course within tacitly agreed boundaries, for final year students,...

...A Wife’s Letter Rabindranath Tagore Translated from Bengali by Prasenjit Gupta To Thine Auspicious Lotus-Feet: Today we have been married fifteen years, yet not until today have I written you a letter. I’ve always been close by your side. You’ve heard many things from me, and so have I from you, but we haven’t had space enough to write a letter. Now I’m in Puri on a holy journey, and you are wrapped up in your office work. Your relationship to Calcutta is a snail’s to its shell--the city is stuck fast to you, body and soul. So you didn’t apply for leave. It was the Lord’s desire, and so was His granting me my leave application. I am Mejo-Bou, the second bride in your joint family. Today, fifteen years later, standing at the edge of the ocean, I understand that I also have other relationships, with the world and the World-Keeper. So I find the courage to write this letter. This is not a letter from your family’s Mejo-Bou. Not from the second wife. Long ago, in my childhood days--in the days when my preordained marriage to you was known only to the Omniscient One who writes our fates on our foreheads--my brother and I both came down with typhoid fever. My brother died; I survived. All the neighborhood girls said, “Mrinal’s a girl, that’s why she lived. If she’d been a boy, she couldn’t have been saved.” Jom-Raj is wise in his deadly robbery: he only takes things of value. No death, then, for me. It is to explain this at length that I sit down to write this letter. When your uncle--a...

... 10 Conclusion 11 Reference 12 Introduction Now it is the information age, information is applied all over the society, including economy, politics, and daily life. Many companies are going to make the Internet development into their strategic goals. Of course, the common people also get greater convenience from it, such as the apps of Kuaidi and Didi, which are very hot during this time. Not only is booking a taxi easier, it is also cheaper: The two major companies are offering discounts to riders. Taxi drivers also get bonuses for using the apps. Didi was offering 15 RMB per ride in February. On the other hand, it has also led to the big sales of intelligent mobile phone. Of course, when a new thing appears, it will also bring some bad shortages. In this report, as for the two most popular apps, I will make analysis from the market view, use the relevant economic theories, at the same time, for the shortage, and put forward reasonable proposals by the marketing theory. Didi, indicates the beep of a car, is working with Tencent's WeChat, while Kuaidi, meaning to find a taxi swiftly, has joined hands with Alipay as payment methods. WeChat is a mobile comprehensive service platform by Internet giant Tencent offering communication, shopping, payment, and game, etc. Alipay is a mobile payments platform rolled out by e-commerce giant Alibaba. They are now both applying...

...Pastiche on Waiting for Godot The Theatre of the Absurd is a style of writing which portrays human life as a meaningless and futile existence resulting in one’s inevitable death. Similar to the Lost Generation movement created as a result of the death and destruction of World War I, the Theatre of the Absurd is a reaction to World War II in which the war survivors felt as though death was inevitable and therefore nothing in one’s existence mattered since material possessions would not travel with one after death. Samuel Beckett’s Waiting For Godot exemplifies the characteristics of the Theatre of the Absurd, not only through its content and dialogue, but also through its language and structure. The structure of dialogue chosen by Beckett, mixes short and concise sentences with meaningful ideas and opinions about the human condition. Although the dialogue appears to be an illogical banter, it would be a mistake to make the assumption that it has no meaning. For instance, throughout the play, Estragon and Vladimir repeat the lines “nothing to be done” and “nothing happens.” Such references along with the cyclical nature of the dialogue, suggest Beckett’s vision that human existence is bleak and that nothing significant ever really happens in our lifetimes, but instead the same situations are repeated throughout life. Beckett’s style revolutionizes the traditional play as he deviates from the orthodox playwright by creating a play with no central plot or storyline. There is no...

...On a cold and sunny afternoon in mid-November 1952, Estragon “Gogo” Belmont and Vladimir “Didi” Starek were seen walking down a country road on their way to meet their friend “Godot” and have not been seen since. This case report details their disappearance over 50 years ago and its aftermath. Little is known of the circumstances surrounding their disappearance; detectives only know that they lived in Fourcés, France with their families prior to their vanishing. Their case is one of the most prolific among French detectives, due to the mysterious identities of the men and of the person they were seeking, “Godot.” As family members dwindle and the men’s stories start to fade into the history books as yet another cold case, new eyewitness accounts and personal writings bring new information about the duo, shedding some light on potential reasons for their disappearance. Estragon Belmont was known as an eccentric child, which caused him to behave erratically later in life. Belmont’s aunt told police when he vanished that Estragon was “prone to inaction most of the time. Then he’d get a sudden idea in his head and go off on an adventure,...

...What is gender? There really is no concise or definitive definition for it, since it will differ from person to person depending on who you ask. The dictionary and medical definition states it as being male or female. The sociology textbook definition refers to it as the physical, behavioral, and personality traits that a group considers to be normal, natural, right and good for its male and female members. Regardless of what view you take gender as, it ultimately leads to relations in the male and female category. One major subject of gender is gender roles, which basically means how males and females should speak, think, dress and act within the context of society and can be linked to gender stereotyping (also a topic of discussion). It is apparent in most if not all cultures, but the “role” itself varies from one culture to another. A major gateway for this is through the media. In the United States, children’s cartoons are a prime example. Of the plethora of cartoons available for discussion, four highly popular ones, current and old, will take priority: Dora the Explorer, Spongebob Squarepants, Rugrats, and the Scooby Doo series. First to be discussed is the extremely popular, Dora the Explorer. The show can be considered a global phenomenon being dubbed in over twenty different languages, so it has a large fan base amongst the varying cultures around the world. Now, on to the topic of gender in regards to the show, the show itself is not necessarily targeted solely towards...
