Vegetarians are less likely to contract cancer of the colon than meat eaters. A vegetarian diet is typically high in fibre, low in saturated fat and includes plenty of fruit and vegetables. Dietary fibre may help to protect against all the ‘Western’ cancers such as cancers of the colon, rectum, prostate, uterus and breast. We all know that fruits, vegetables, grains, legumes and nuts are healthy. There are a number of studies that show that consuming more of these plant-based foods reduces the risk for a long list of chronic maladies (including coronary artery disease, obesity, diabetes, and many cancers). This is probable factor in increased longevity in the industrialized world. On average, we eat two fruits and vegetables and too much saturated fats of which meat and dairy are prime contributors. A predominantly vegetarian diet may have beneficial effects for kidney and nerve function in diabetics, as well as for weight loss. Eating more fruits and vegetables can slow, and perhaps reverse, age-related declines in brain function and in cognitive and motor performance at least in rats. During the first half of the year, the industry was faced with lower Crude Palm Oil (CPO) production compared to corresponding period of 2011 as Fresh Fruit Bunch (FFB) yielded low due to stress on the trees after experiencing high FFB production in 2011, as well as high imports of palm oil. In the second half of the year, palm oil prices declined as palm oil stocks build-up arising from high carry-over stocks in the beginning of the year, increase CPO production as well as weaker export demand. Palm oil stocks reached 2.63 million tonnes at the end of December 2012, CPO production declined marginally to 18.79 million tonnes and imports increased to 1.39 million tonnes. Total exports of palm products was 24.56 million tonnes, an increase of 1.2% with palm kernel cake and oleochemical products registered increase in exports, while palm oil recorded a decline of 2.4% to 17.56 million tonnes. Average price of CPO for the year was RM2,764 per tonne, lower by 14.1% compared to RM3,219 in 2011, while export revenue of palm products declined by 11.2% to RM71.40 billion against RM80.41 billion recorded in 2011 due to lower export prices. Place a wide-mouthed, heavy-bottomed vessel in Medium-High heat. [Wide-mouthed vessel so that the carrots get cooked fast and uniform. This way you can save gas, time and energy. I did not have a wide-mouthed vessel. Used my pressure cooker]. Add 4 tbsp. ghee. Step 3. Add the shredded carrots into the ghee and mix well. Step 4. Fry until the carrots turn pale. Compare picture above and below. Do you see the color difference in the carrots? Carrots have turned pale which means they won’t have raw smell. You’ll now feel a kind of sweet smell from the carrots. This process takes around 10 minutes. Add the milk. Step 5. I used 3 cups of milk. i.e. enough milk to submerge the carrots so that they get cooked well in the milk. Allow the milk to boil. Takes 5 minutes. Step 6. Let the carrots get cooked well in the milk.
