How To Pave A Perfect Driveway

Ever wonder how those big new driveways get their picture perfect look? It is a lot of hard work, but in the end it is all worth it. It makes your house and yard look wonderful. Also having a paved driveway is better for most home owners than a dirt driveway. A driveway that has been paved with asphalt is less likely to damage cars with flying rocks or leave a vehicle dirty or muddy. I am going to guide you thru this back breaking process. Here is a list of things you will need to do and purchase before we start. You will need to measure the drive way, by length and width so you can price your materials. The amount of asphalt you will need to pave a driveway will be determined by the size of your space. Measure your area by square ft. and take those measurements to the home improvement store. Then find a team of hard strong workers. Now you will need a roll of yellow caution tape, some markers, a couple of shovels, spades, rakes, tamps, a jack hammer, a hand roller, and a ride on roller, wheel barrel and a spreader box. You will also need gravel, base, black top and top soil to back fill, also a dump truck to remove the old driveway material.
Next you will need four or more men to do the labor, it depends on how large the driveway is that you are working on. One of the easiest ways to make a driveway is to simply clear the land, compress it with heavy machinery and begin using it to gain access to and from a home or building. Is this the best way to go about creating a driveway? Not really, and this is because seasonal conditions and soil erosion will quickly degrade the path and make it either boggy and muddy or bumpy and full of rocks and impediments. It might also be outside of local building codes and regulations too. This is the reason that most home and property owners will eventually pave their driveway with one of several reliable materials. For the purpose of this discussion we will consider the costs of paving a driveway that is roughly 12'x50' (or 600 square feet) in size. Before the paving process can begin, however, the space must be suitably prepared for the work. This requires clearing the area of debris, grading the soil in order to receive the paving materials, creating a base, and then adding the pavement. A standard paving project will include costs such as: Excavation, clearing, and tree chipping or removal - costs include:Workers to clear, cut or chip light trees of less than 6" in diameter will cost $48 per hour;Stump removal averages at $68 per tree;Chipping trees larger than 18" in diameter costs $20 to $40 dollars; and Site clearing over an area of a single acre (using heavy machines and skilled laborers) averages between $150 to $400 per hour. Grading - depending upon the type of pavement to be applied, grading averages at roughly $2.35 per square yard;Pavement - gravel is the most common choice, and for a 2" layer poured and prepared the costs would average at roughly $800. Asphalt is the next most common choice and at 2.5" thickness it would cost roughly $830 to be professionally installed. Concrete is also a very popular option, and with its long life and remarkable durability it is also among the most cost effective. It will average at $75 per cubic yard, and this means that the project described here would demand roughly 7.5 cubic yards for a cost of $562 in materials alone. Lastly, a homeowner might opt for pavers such as cobblestones, which come at a significantly higher price, and average around $30 per square foot - which would cost $18000 for the project described here. Additional considerations and costs Engineering - whenever driveways have any sort of slopes, curves, or angles in them it usually means that costs are going to increase. Generally this is due to the need for engineering to allow runoff to properly drain away from the home and into the street, and it usually also means more labor in preparing the surface. Additionally, sloped and curved drives involve more materials which only increases the total costs too.
Now the construction is ready to begin. In this step you will need to rip up the old driveway. You do this by breaking it up with the jack hammer and the shovels. When this is complete pickup and removes all the old driveway material with the wheel barrel and dump it. Next you will use a couple of markers to mark where the boundaries of the driveway will be. Now here is where the real hard work begins. The first step is called laying the top soil, in this procedure you will need to shovel. Shoveling is not that easy in this case. You need to be precise where you spread the top soil, so it will be easier to rake out evenly. Now flatten it out with the ride on roller.
Step two is called dumping the stone. Just like the last step you will need to shovel the gravel, spreading it across the area where the driveway is going to be laid. Spread the gravel until it is at least 2 inches thick but no deeper than 8 inches. You will also need to rake this out evenly as possible. Next you will tamp the sides of the driveway. You do this by using the tamp, and flatting out the edges and the side of the materials you just put down. Now take the ride on roller and roll the area flat. Your next step is called laying the base. The base is a rougher blend of asphalt. Just as in the earlier steps you will need to spread it evenly with the shovel. Then tamp the sides really well, and then roll it out as evenly and flat as possible.
In step four you will lay the top blend; this is a fine blend of asphalt and it is also the most expensive out of them all. This is needed to complete the final layer that will complete the driveway. In this step you will need to move very quickly, and work with an eagle eye. On this layer you will need to use a spreader box instead of a shovel. The spreader box is a machine that the asphalt is poured into and then spread out with also. The top blend has to be very; very hot when it is spread, this is why you use a spreader box instead of the shovel. But don’t put your shovels away just yet. You will still need them to spread the top blend in areas where the spreader box cannot fit. In those areas you will need to rake them out fine as possible, and then roll it out flat as possible with the hand roller. After doing this you will get the ride on roller and flatten out the whole driveway.
Now last but not least, the final step in creating this beautiful picture perfect driveway is called spraying and back filling. In this step you will spray the area of the driveway with water and more top soil. The water is to cool the hot asphalt so it will form and mold to the area faster. And then you use top soil to back fill. This is where you take the top soil to fill in any cracks or edges that are uneven. Once everything is filled in fully and evenly roll it flat with the ride on roller. Then let the asphalt dry and avoid driving on the paved area for at least a day as the asphalt cools and cures. To make sure everyone is aware of this cross off the driveway with yellow caution tape. Now those were the steps to paving a perfect driveway. It is definitely easier said than done. Try it for yourself and you be the judge.

...The Prime Directive, as the article states, takes a sort of Kantian approach. A black and white image where it is pertinent that the Federation does not interfere with other cultures that are not at warp capacity. I, however, am of the utilitarian stance. The Federation should help another culture if it will yield the greatest amount of good for everyone involved. ...the lack of regulation. Taxis are a great example of this. Without some regulation, the locally oligopolistic companies have little to no incentives to improve their services. Just a few years ago, a smoking taxi driver was more common than credit card payment or air conditioning in a cab. The Taxi Act of Budapest (with some, and not total regulation) quickly changed all that. On the other end of the spectrum are government-owned, monopolistic giants, such as the Post. Sluggish service provided by unmotivated employees at a high price make waiting in line at the Post office one of the most dreadful errands. A national corporation in many European countries, the postal sector is crying out for deregulation. Just the threat of EU directives liberalizing the postal service market had the staff of the Hungarian Post quickly jumping to their feet, experimenting with what they believed were costumer-friendly innovations like selling candy bars on the spot. Well... it’s a step. All in all, I believe the job of regulators is to provide a framework that allows for fair competition and to...

The Doctrine of Indirect EffectWhere a Directive has not been implemented by Member State or has been inadequately implemented an individual can take action against another individual by using the concept of “indirect effect”   Von Colson v Land Nordrhein-Westfahlen [1984] ECJ Article 5 EC requires Member States to "take all appropriate measures" to ensure fulfilment of Community obligations. And this means that courts must interpret national law so as to ensure the objectives of Directive are achieved. This requires an effective remedy that has a deterrent effect and is adequate in relation to the damage sustained.  A Directive cannot of itself impose obligations on private partiesMarleasing SA v La Comercial Internacional de Alimentacion SA [1990] ECJ Therefore, national courts must as far as possible interpret national law in the light of the wording and purpose of the Directive in order to achieve the result pursued by the Directive. This obligation applies whether the national provisions in question were adopted before or after the Directive; national courts were 'required' to interpret domestic law in such a way as to ensure that the objectives of the Directive were achieved. So, courts must do everything possible to interpret domestic law to comply with Community law.  State Liability when there is no domestic law on a matter to which a Directive relates or domestic law is totally contrary to EC lawFrancovich v Italy [1991]...

Being a production factory we have to ensure we are in compliance with Health and Safety laws and regulations ensuring that all staff is maintaining high health and safety awareness. ...The External environment consists of opportunities and threats that are outside the organisation and are two types: macro environment and micro environment. PEST analysis This analysis is a helpful tool to take a closer look at the general environment. Although the PEST analysis rely on past events and experience, it can be used as a forecast of the future (Wilson and Gilligan, 1998). Political factors: The political environment is good. The government is stable and reliable, even if Britain fails to achieve total agreement with some EU policies from time to time. At the present no EU directives are known which will have a direct effect on the UK clothing retail industry in the near future. Due to the EU membership a trend can be seen towards stricter environmental protection legislation. This may have a direct or indirect effect on NEXT or his suppliers. Economic factors: The current economic climate in the UK is unstable and this brings short term volatility in NEXT sales which, in turn, make forecasting difficult. In addition, the weakness of Sterling against the US Dollar and the Euro, the main purchasing currencies, has brought further challenges to their buying teams. (Next financial statement, 2009) Looking at the economic environment, it is somewhat tricky since on the one hand there is the strong sterling compared to the Euro. Euroland encourages imports and try to hold domestic prices at an attractive level. But on the other hand it is difficult for...

...Module 3 Aircraft Systems and Aircraft Maintenance Learning Objective #10 Determine the requirements for maintenance records, compliance with Airworthiness Directives (AD), preventive maintenance, and alterations. Web Support link: http://www.avweb.com/news/savvyaviator/190596-1.html The Savvy Aviator While browsing the Internet and reading through various FAA websites, I came across a column by a passionate pilot that likes to spread the good, educated, aviation word. I chose column #23: Maintenance Records highlighting the importance of detailed and accurate records, and compliance with FARs. One thing I found refreshing was how casual the author speaks to his audience, yet delivers a wealth of knowledge that is typically only gained through years of experience, both on and off the ground. The author goes into great detail as to what is required from the regulatory sense and what is required per good pilot and mechanic sense. He further breaks it down by addressing complying with airworthiness directives and how to annotate them properly, alterations and the depth at which they need to be captured, and preventive and routine maintenance. I found this article to be very informative and challenged my current maintenance practices, both personally and professionally. The article was simplistic enough that the youngest of aviator or manager would glean the basics, and maybe a few inches deeper of aviation knowledge, and those that have been at this for more than a...

Is the Aircaft Airworthty

...Is the Aircraft Airworthy? You’re at the airport waiting for your flight to the Bahamas so that you can start your vacation when you hear an announcement over the speakers saying that your flight is being delayed or even canceled due to a maintenance issue. What in heck just happen? What does this mean? Well basically it means that your aircraft has been deemed un-airworthy for the time being. Before an aircraft can be flown it must meet the definition of airworthy or airworthiness. Airworthiness; what does it mean for an aircraft to be consider airworthy? Is it when the aircraft is setting on the ramp waiting patiently for a pilot to come along and fly it; maybe or maybe not. First, let’s start with a simply definition of airworthy. According to Advisory Circular AC43.13-1B, which is Acceptable Methods, Techniques, and Practices—Aircraft Inspection and Repair, airworthy is defined as; when an aircraft or one of its components parts meets its type design and is in a condition for safe operation. Now who can determine if an aircraft or one of its component parts meets it type design and is in a condition for safe operation? There are two very important people who have the skills and knowledge to determine just that question. They are the aircraft mechanic, who maintains the maintenance of the aircraft, and the aircraft owner/operator of the aircraft. Now while they both have the own responsibilities when it comes to aircraft airworthiness they most also work together...

Aircraft Maintenance Ratings and Privleges

...AIRCRAFT MAINTENANCE RATINGS AND PRIVLEGES John INTRODUCTION TO AERONAUTICAL SCIENCE, AMGT 202 MR. ROGER TAYLOR AUGUST 15, 2009 In order to perform, certify repairs and airworthiness of aircraft in the aviation industry one must possess a license(s) issued by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). With each rating comes privileges issued and authorized by the FAA. The ratings are: Mechanics, Repairman, Parachute Riggers and Aircraft Dispatcher. Certification of these jobs is covered under Part 65 of the Federal Aviation Regulations (FAR’s). Also included under Part 65 is Air Traffic Controllers, but I’ll not address this career in this paper. Aviation maintenance is a demanding career that has many training requirements. An entire sub industry has been created to train aviation professionals. Schools and their training and curriculum requirements are governed by FAR 147. Under this FAR, only Airframe, Powerplant and Airframe and Powerplant (A&P) ratings may be taught. Curriculums have minimum FAA requirements and must be FAA approved. There are many schools throughout the United States that teach aviation maintenance; in fact the FAA’s web site lists over 150 certified schools within the United States alone. Additionally, many airlines and repair stations have in-house and on the job training programs to ensure personnel maintain proficiency, learn the latest techniques and newest technology. Aircraft maintenance ratings are broken down...
