Does racism still exist? Yes in fact racism does still exist. Over the centuries racism hasn’t changed people just are not outwardly about it as they were years ago. It may seem to appear that there aren’t any racial acts going on in society but in reality there is. Some people still won’t and never will accept you for your race for some reasons. As long as different races exist there will always be racism that follows.
People may argue that slavery doesn’t exist because black people have better advancements than other races. Some might say all races are treated equally now. Having a black president does not mean racism is fully gone. We may have a partially black president in charge which people will jump to conclusion that racism is over but it’s not. Barack Obama may get a lot of threats we do not know about because he doesn’t have to share everything that goes on and the ones that he does eventually share we can see the raciness in them.
When you go to stores you see a few cases of racism if you’re black. They tend to have an eye on the colored people rather than the white people. One day my friend and I went into the store and the lady followed us around. We didn’t take anything. That day some white boy stole some candy but no he never got caught because he wasn’t being watched. They automatically think since your black you are going to do something wrong. Some people still live in the past. People still feel like they are superior then blacks. They think blacks are criminals or a whole lot of nothing. Just because black people are darker it doesn’t mean a thing. They feel as though just because their ancestors hated black people they should too.
If racism did not still exist then the government should not ask your ethnicity on job applications, or any other documents. When you apply for a job there’s always somewhere on that application that asks for your ethnicity, that’s a perfect example of racism. Although they may say no discrimination intended if they weren’t discriminating then it shouldn’t matter the color of your skin.
We all know that the Civil Rights Movement was one of the greatest achievements America has ever had. Did it really end racism completely? No, it does not matter what race you are at some point in life you will come across a racial act. It may be a minor or major racial act no matter what it may be it is still an act of racism. People’s attitudes may have slightly changed about other races outside their race group but racism still does exist.
