...Kevin Henry FOUN 1001 13th April2015 The marginalization of male domestic abuse victims through the media (Final) “Whenever I speak of male abuse I am met by disbelief and even worse laughter. I notice in talking with other shelter staff throughout the state that this attitude prevails in other shelters, too- men are the perpetrators women are the victims.” The above quote from Jan Dimmitt executive director of Kelso’s emergency support shelter in Longview Washington, United states reveals an all too common attitude towards male domestic abuse. Such a discriminatory attitude is not simply limited to the United States however it is also seen here in the Caribbean, a region with a history of domestic abuse and even more concerning is realization that the media helps to proliferate such a view. Media of all kinds can influence and even distort the perception of persons’ opinions on topics such as physical attractiveness and politics. Similar problems arise when applied to the issue of domestic abuse and the media has a responsibility to ensure that it does not misrepresent men by offering only one view of the issue. The media has a prospective responsibility to ensure that they portray the reality of domestic abuse to avoid stereotyping men as aggressors. The media in all outlets whether social or otherwise is the major provider of information on various issues and therefore has a prospective responsibility to provide information without bias. Prospective responsibility according...

A briefing of the show, Mrs. Williams, is currently married to retired NFL player Wally Williams and has dealt with domestic abuse. In their relationship in the past, she encountered domestic abuse by Mr. Williams. Mrs. Williams wanted to tell her side of the story about how domestic abuse cases are filed against NFL players by their spouses and/or partners and how the NFL keeps it silence when informed. She wanted this story to help encourage change and promote change within the NFL. Mrs. Williams also discusses how drugs, Alcohol, and football are common issues apart of many spouses and/or partners lives and they deal with it all the time, which causes domestic abuse in many relationships of NFL players. Even though Mrs. Williams husband was placed in the diversion program for drug and alcohol abuse and for the use of marijuana the abuse continued and the NFL did nothing about it. ...Earlier this year a law which decriminalizes domestic abuse in Russia came into effect. The law ensures, unless the victim requires hospital treatment, a first-time offender will not face a prison sentence, having only to pay a fine between $80 and $700. This law not only minimizes the effects of violence within the family for victims, but also overlooks psychological and sexual abuse. Domestic abuse constitutes an act which results in physical, sexual, or psychological harm, and most women in Russia have experienced it. Annually between 12,000 and 14,000 Russian women die due to domestic violence; one woman every 40 minutes (Брынцева). According to research, alcohol abuse correlates with violence, and this isn’t a myth but a mere fact. However, in many cases, violence perpetrators do not drink heavily they use the small amount they have drunk to commit violence against their victims in the name of drunkenness. In reality, alcohol does not cause violence though it makes the situation to escalate. The substance abuse is just a scapegoat to justify violence. According to research abusers are more likely to commit the crime of domestic violence by behaving so violently under the influence of alcohol or any other drug, but this is usually an excuse for acting in...

...Domestic Abuse within Christian Marriages Linda J. Whitworth Liberty University Abstract Domestic abuse has become a worldwide epidemic. It affects every part of life, from lost time at work to suicide or homicide. It effects every culture, every race, every gender and every socioeconomic background. When domestic abuse happens within the confines of a Christian marriage, it can shake the abused spouse to the core, causing her to question her belief in God. Women are told that they are to submit to both Jesus Christ and their husbands, acknowledging the husband as the head of the family. Sadly, this principle has been construed by abusive spouses as a coercive means in which to keep the abused (in this case, the wife) in complete submission. It is then threatened that should the wife try to leave or to seek help, she will be punished by God, thus sending a mixed message. For a woman of faith, holding on to God helps her to hold on to hope. Even through the questioning and the doubt, faith remains. Once they escape the abusive marriage, it is the victim’s faith that helps her start her life over, with a deeper knowledge of that faith and knowing that God will see her through anything. Keywords: abuse, Christianity, domestic violence, faith, marriage, relationships Domestic Abuse within Christian Marriages Abuse, in its most basic form means to hurt, mistreat, injure or insult (Briscoe & Hunt, 2009). There are many types of abuse, some more passive and some more...

...Finding freedom from domestic abuse Shelly Rede ENG/147 November 17, 20014 Alexandra Zuffoletti Finding freedom from domestic abuse “Victims had to find a way to “connect the dots” and make their lives come together which was difficult. “ (Javaherian, Krabacher, Andriacco, &German, 2007) Despite the difficulties those who have suffered domestic abuse can find recovery. Traversing the system to reach the goal of freedom from the abuse is both arduous and rewarding. It also takes that person coming to the understanding the only way to live is to leave. In order to get out of an abusive relationship, individuals must understand what domestic abuse is, have access to resources and support that can help, and be strong. Understanding the components of domestic abuse and being able to recognize the signs is an important first step. Domestic abuse by most definitions is abuse that happens to individuals in an intimate and or personal relationship, such as spouses, boyfriend/girlfriend, and same-sex couples. “Intimate partner violence does not discriminate. It has no boundaries.” ‘said Annell Lough a family advocate at The Center for Women and Families and survivor of intimate partner violence.” (“Taking its toll,”2014, para. 4) Abusers will use many different tactics to gain control over their victims. Tammy managed to escape that life, but her sister unfortunately was not as lucky. It wasn’t until 2005 after Michelle’s husband Michael Nicholaou killed his current wife Aileen, her daughter and himself in a double murder suicided, that the authorities made him a person of interest in not only Michelle’s case but in the Connecticut River Valley Serial Killings, rapes, disappearances and murders of other women in New Hampshire, Virginia, Texas, Florida, Vermont, Massachusetts, and possibly New York and Illinois. ...The Automotive industry – Inventory and issues of fleet. Theory of constraint Throughput: There is limited inventory of a specific vehicle domestically and it is really cutting into potential sales and profitability Inventory: Limited number of vehicles available in the US is hurting growth and our market share potential. The issue at hand correlates directly to inventory Operating expense: Legal issues and logistic costs to bring more vehicles over from overseas. Potentially the opening of a domestic plant would be a huge operational cost. Bottleneck: limited availability domestically is putting a real strain on our operating potential 5 step process 1.) Identifying the bottleneck: There has been a real problem with our distribution channels lately. We receive cars from overseas (Europe) where all our vehicles are made. The time it takes for the cars to get from Europe to our US ports can sometimes be up to a month or more! Lately we have seen a shortage in specific car types and this shortage have hurt our dealers sales due to the fact that we do not have the vehicles they want, so they go elsewhere. We need a better process around getting vehicles early whether it is a new forecasting method or opening a building warehouse domestically. 2.) Exploit Bottleneck: Our Company could create a forecasting tool which is used in other industries and companies alike that predicts sales volume month in advance hence making the distribution of cars from overseas more efficient...

...Every day animals are beaten, neglected, or forced to struggle for survival. Animal abuse is an issue that is extremely prevalent in our world today. Although the type of abuse, and the animals may vary from country to country we cannot discount the pain felt by these animals. There is also a direct link between violence against animals and violence against humans. If looked at this way then if we start to reduce the amount of animals abused it would also be a big step forward for reducing the number of people abused as well. Animal abuse is a phenomenon that occurs internationally and the general public needs to take every measure in their power to if possible completely stop it. To develop and grow as a global community, we must fight for...

Domestic violence is rampant across the nation. In this paper the subject to identify is the use of cognitive-behavioral practices within the setting of a woman’s shelter; known as “Turning Point.” The shelter mission is to provide programs and resources that enable victims/survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault to regain control of their lives (Turning Point, Inc., n.d.). ...Riley Smith Lang 120 Professor Murray March 31 2015 Animal Cruelty and Abuse Animal abuse is said to be an under reported abuse stated by The Humane Society, it is also seen as a disturbing abuse. The rate in which animal abuse is going is only making it terrifying. The statistics of animal abuse are rising more and more with each year that comes. Although humans see it as something unfathomable, animal abuse occurs every day. Animal abuse is when physical pain, scarring, or death is brought upon an animal for no reason or showing it neglect. As shown in a group of statistics by The Humane Society shows that most abuse cases occur in dogs the most, commonly the pit bull. The Humane Society states that in 2001 abuse that occurred with dogs was around 13%, in 2007 it increased with a 12% jump to 25%, but in their latest study it was shown that 65% of abuse cases occur with dogs. As startling as this information may sound, it is a fact that society as a whole is becoming a worse place that feels like it is okay to hurt animals. In fact 68% of humans believe that the meat prices need to drop instead of worrying about the well-being of a cow or any animal. The ASPCA also agrees with what the human society has to say. The ASPCA agrees that the rate in which animal abuse is going is way too high. Animal abuse does not just have to be about physically hurting an animal. This could also mean neglecting it. An animal is just like any human. It loves being shown it is cared about and...
