...HayLee V. Beard April 10, 2012 English 1020 Spring Atkinson Domestic Violence Against Men Ignored While growing up we constantly heard “a man never hits a woman.” This moral value was drilled into our heads so it would remain in adulthood. However, violence against women is still a large problem in our society today. If a value so efficiently taught still poses as an issue, the unlearned values must rate even higher. One of these being violence against men. Males have always been portrayed as the strong, dominant ones while women have been week, fragile figures. This assumption has caused the world to ignore male victims, making violence against men one of the biggest problems. Denis Campbell, a designated reporter for the online newspaper “The Observer,” wrote that forty percent of domestic violence victims are male, or about two in five of all victims. It will continue to grow as long as we let it. I consider myself as a feminist. That is why domestic violence was my top research subject. I was under the impression that the only victims were women and men were just simply evil. However, when digging deeper into research I realized that violence against men is dangerously ignored and how the affects are the same. I now feel the need to report this and bring awareness. Starting on the journey of this new topic, I had many unanswered questions. How could a hefty, tall, strong man be victimized by a small, petite woman? The answer relates back to the lesson of “a man never...

...exposed to domestic violence Michelle A. Ward CJA/314 7/26/13 Krista Hall Children exposed to domestic violence A cold day on February 17, 2011 became a day my child or myself will never forget. My son at the young age of a year and two months, became a child statistic for witnessing a domestic violence case. From that day forward I knew, I needed to provide my undivided attention to ensure he was safe in my care and watch. Statistics show that children exposed to violence are, more likely than their peers to abuse their loved ones and or end up in the prison system as adults. It has been my ongoing goal to seek the proper knowledge to help my child, develop into any amazing young man. Including the insurance that he has a strong mother by his side. Children are very fragile at young ages and when violence of any kind is present in their lives, it can greatly affect their future. As a parent it is your job to provide a loving and caring environment to raise you children. Remember, children are like walking sponges they absorb everything that is placed in front of them. Individuals need to understand their actions could greatly affect the future of that child’s life. I am struggling to remove the anger that my child seems to express every day because anger seems to be all he knows how to express. I have his father to thank for that. Domestic violence causes harm to children in a variety of different ways. Never is it healthy for a child to be around domestic violence in the...

... My director has asked me to write you this letter on behalf of our organization Free Women. Our organization is dedicated to helping the women and their families who have been victims of domestic violence. We set out to provide a safe and warm place to not only come and lay your head but have a shoulder to cry on or a friend to listen to. First before I get into telling all the information on this wonderful organization and why I have decided to sit on the board of such organization I’m going to give you a quick definition on abuse. Abuse- treat a person with cruelty or violence, especially regularly or repeatedly. You do not have to be hit to be abused you can be mentally abused to. Being told over and over again that your not good enough, your fat, your lazy is all considered abuse and you need to get far away from that abuse to. Just because you cant see the marks or scars don’t mean they are not there. Think about it are you being physically or mentally abused is so we are here. Being a victim of domestic violence myself I know how hard it is to let someone help you or for that matter even admit you need help. Trust me I know. I fully believed for almost two years that my ex loved me and we could get passed him hitting me all the time. I can remember the day that he put my head through the wall all over two dollars. He knocked me out. that’s the last thing...

...Domestic Violence Against Men Statistics for the Behavioral & Social Sciences PSY 325 Instructor: October 17, 2011 When we think if domestic violence we automatically think that it is against the female in a relationship but it is becoming more and more prevalent that the abuse is where the male is the victim. Research has proven that little or no concerns or given to battered men who cry out for help from law enforcement officers and in the courts the cases are given minimum status for prosecution. The focus just is not there nor is there a sense of urgency as it is in the case of abused women. There are very limited resources available for abused men and very minimal funding provide for assistance of any kind. Statics have shown that domestic violence reports rates are higher in women than in men since men tend to hide the abuse due to being socially stereotyped or just because of their own pride. Even so there is a great need for the equal opportunity for the abuse victim regardless of their gender. Researchers into domestic violence believe that it may not against women decrease at a rapid rate but that we should walk away when the men share their pain? Chloe, a thirty five year old female called police regarding alleged abuse by her husband, she quickly came to her senses and admitted to police that she should be the one being arrested. Chloe said that she had physically and verbally abuse her disabled husband; unfortunately law...

...A’Shantee Dawson CJS/231 Domestic Violence Paper April 26, 2016 Ms. Waltman This research paper is intended to address issues of abused children and how domestic violence affects their lives in so many different ways. Domestic violence can happen to anyone. Domestic violence is well-defined as the pattern of abusive and threatening behaviors that may include physical, emotional, economic and sexual violence as well as pressure, separation and strong-arming. There are many ways that children can experience abuse. Children exposed to devastating and potentially traumatic events early in their lives are considered risk for problems in adjustment. Yet it is not known whether it is the age of first exposure (AFE) to violence or the amount of violence that the child witnessed in their lifetime that has the greatest impact on adjustment. For a sample of 190 children ages 6 to 12 exposed to intimate partner violence, their mothers reported that the average length of their abusive relationship was 10 years. The majority of children were first exposed to family violence as infants at 64 percent, with only 12 percent first exposed when school aged. However, in deterioration analyses controlling for child sex, ethnicity, age, and family environment variables, increasing violence exposure accounted for greater variance in adjustment than did the age of first exposure. Furthermore, cumulative violence exposure mediated the relationship between the age of first exposure and expressing...

...Silence is it really a Women’s Loudest Cry? Growing up you never want to see your mother being abused and you defiantly never expect the one abusing her to be your dad. For years as children my sister and I would witness this every summer we would go stay with him. There would always be very short moments of peace before the arguments and violence began, nothing hurt me more than to see my mother cry for help and there was nothing I could do but scream stop. I eventually figured out that it never would she would either get away or be killed staying. Every day I would pray that it would get better but it never did one day she finally left never to look back. The women in the “Why I need Feminism” sends a very clear message to the viewers. The tape covering her mouth, usage of grey in various ways, the words that are written on the tape and the sunglasses all play a very important role in what the author of this picture is trying to get across. In this picture of domestic violence advertisement the color grey represents sadness or sorrow to make the audience connect with the message being brought forth. The color sets the tone of the ad. Anyone looking at this picture knows that the message is meant to be serious. Usage of the color grey has a heavy effect on the image itself. Not only is the background grey but so is everything around it, this in itself shows how much pain and suffering the author is trying to convey. ...All children are affected by the violence in their homes. Regardless of whether or not our children have been physically abused, watching their mother being battered is a frightening experience. Children from violent homes can exhibit a variety of behaviors. Some may "act out" and may be viewed as delinquent. Domestic violence is an ongoing experience of physical, psychologic, and/or sexual abuse in the home that is used to establish power and control over another person.1 Although awareness about the rate of domestic violence in our society is increasing, the public health ramifications have only recently been recognized in the medical community. The majority of the medical literature to date has focused on the effect of domestic violence on the primary victim. What effect does witnessing domestic violence have on secondary victims, such as children who live in homes where partner abuse occurs? It is estimated that 3.2 million American children witness incidents of domestic violence annually.2 Witnessing domestic violence can lead children to develop an array of age-dependent negative effects. Research in this area has focused on the cognitive, behavioral, and emotional effects of domestic violence. Children who witness violence in the home and children who are abused may display many similar psychologic effects.3,4 These children are at greater risk for internalized behaviors such as anxiety and depression, and for externalized behaviors such as fighting, bullying, lying, or...

...Whenever the thought of domestic violence comes to mind, more than often the visual picture is a women or a child. But there is another side that is ignored because it is bushed up under the rug, and ignored as if it is seemingly impossible for it to happen and that is the abuse of men; this review will examine this important and neglected issue that society seems to ignore. On the contrary there are several conflicts that destroy a relationship. The biggest conflicts that seem more widely publicized and always at the forefront is infidelity, poor financial handling, sex, children and abuse. Seemingly, abuse is something that is more tolerated and unmentioned as a code of silence on both sides of the relationship, this is usually the case because the victim (man/women) is too ashamed to mention the abuse, and unless either witnessed or displays visible signs of abuse it will be tolerated until the victim has had enough, or unless death occur. Society is beginning to realize that domestic violence is an increasing growing issue and must continue to work towards implementing programs to decrease it within the homes. The myths! Which are outlandishly ridiculous, with the mitigating factor being the distortion of subconscious beliefs of these myths that leads to abuse; The Super Bowl Sunday myth seems to grow wings and fly because of media, who stated that every year domestic violence rates were higher because of the outcomes of games, this myth was never proven. Then there is...

Domestic violence is one of the most serious crimes in the world because it is so hard to get away from it, if your younger then 18 you can’t leave home without your parent’s consent and if it is your parent abusing you then its close to impossible to get away. Many people who go through domestic violence are embarrassed because the people that should be there for them and protect them are the ones that are making their life a living hell. I wish I was more observant, I so desperately want everything to go back to the way they were before, but take backs and do overs aren’t real and no matter how much I try she is never coming back.
