Song: Artist: Release Date: Background: Don’t Worry Be Happy Bobby McFerrin 1988 “The Indian mystic and sage Meher Baba (1894–1969) often used the expression "Don't worry, be happy" when cabling his followers in the West. In 1988, McFerrin noticed a poster with this quote in the apartment of the jazz band Tuck & Patti in San Francisco. Inspired by the expression's charm and simplicity, McFerrin wrote the now famous song, which was included in the soundtrack of the movie Cocktail, and became a hit single the next year.” (Wikipedia, 08.03.2011)

Don’t Worry, Be Happy

Here is a little song I wrote You might want to sing it note for note Don't worry be happy In every life we have some trouble When you worry you make it double Don't worry, be happy...... Ain't got no place to lay your head Somebody came and took your bed Don't worry, be happy The landlord say your rent is late He may have to litigate Don't worry, be happy Look at me I am happy Don't worry, be happy Here I give you my phone number When you worry call me I make you happy Don't worry, be happy Ain't got no cash, ain't got no style Ain't got no girl to make you smile But don't worry be happy Cause when you worry Your face will frown And that will bring everybody down So don't worry, be happy (now)..... There is this little song I wrote I hope you learn it note for note Like good little children Don't worry, be happy

...ourselves know how to be happy and are happy. If we are not happy (it means we don't know how to be happy), then how can we share happiness with others and ask others to be happy, when we don't have happiness in ourselves? We can share our joy and happiness with all beings without any discrimination of human beings or non-human beings, good beings or bad beings, happy beings or unhappy beings, wise beings or ignorant beings, but we cannot give happiness to others nor can we make other beings to become happy. If one can give happiness to others or can make another being to become happy, then there shouldn't be any beings being unhappy in the world, because we can just give happiness to everyone and make everyone happy. But it doesn't work like that. Not even Buddha nor any enlightened beings can make another being to become happy or to become enlightened. If it is so easy, we can just ask for happiness or enlightenment and be happy forever and be enlightened. It is all come from within ourselves. Happiness or enlightenment, it is up to our own efforts to realize them within ourselves. It cannot be given or be bought from someone else. All the teachers and teachings are there to guide us to attain true happiness and enlightenment by our own effort. When beings are unhappy, have no peace in the heart, the mind is full of attachment, ignorance, anger, hatred, jealousy, arrogance, dissatisfaction, frustration, disappointment, doubt, fear and worry, the mind is feeling depressed...

Holden Caulfield Songs Analysis

...his family He lives on his own for a while, this is very hard on him with everything that has happened in his life. I think Holden would listen to a number of songs that he can relate to personally. Songs like You’re Never Over -by Eminem, Talking to Myself -by Eminem, Unwell -by Matchbox 20, I’m Just a Kid -by Simple Plan, and Don’t Worry Be Happy -by Bobby Mcferrin. Holden relates to the song You’re Never Over -by Eminem with loss, heartbreak, and sadness. In this song Eminem pours his heart out over the death of his very close friend with the lyrics, “The days are cold livin’ without you.” Eminem raps about his dead friend and his loss is very similar to how Holden is feeling after his younger brother Allie died from leukemia. Allie was all that Holden liked in this world, so following his death the world seems terrible. Eminem says, “The nights are long, I’m growing older,” while Holden is growing older in fear of the world and sulking in sadness....

Personal Wellness

...live a healthy lifestyle and keeping these dimensions in perspective takes constant effort. There has to be an inbetween in prevention where you can still enjoy a bacon cheeseburger and not feel regret about the fat content or the calories you just ate. Not only do we have to worry about the affects of the burger on our health but we have to worry about weather or not we can still fit into our namebrand jeans without having a muffintop. It's not only the social "guilt bludgening" we get every day but their is a factual personal guilt that we tend to pour onto ourselves thats probably from the media trained mind set we have come to know as the "normal". After looking at my life and at others around me I get the feeling that everyone sincerely whants to be happy but have been generaly "trained" to live in a constant state of confusion of how to be happy. We should look at what really makes ourselves and the people around us happy. there is a healthy mind set that is really important and I don't think a lot of people consider it as important as just eating right. People just like ourselves are trying to just make it through the're lives being happy and healthy but going to happy hour and eating happy meals and not paying attention to what is really important, like spending time with a grandparent or sharing a meal at the table with your...

Two Question

...Lynda Barry teaches us not to care about others opinion and do what makes us happy. If we try to please others’ then we’ll never be happy. While reading the story, I realized that I used to ask the same two questions as Lynda Barry when I finished my work. The two questions Barry asks are, “Is this good? Does this suck?" (168). Throughout middle school and some parts of high school, I used to always second guess myself by asking these two questions. I would rely on others’ opinion. I didn’t think that it was good enough until someone else told me it was. “But the two questions find everybody” (Barry, 170). Just like me, you might find yourself asking these same questions. You might also find yourself asking these questions to others. You might rely on others opinion more than your own. You might trust their opinions more then you trust your own. This text agrees with the view I have of the world. Our society cares more about others opinion than their own. “As, for bad drawings, I tried my best not to ever make them”. We try to please others more than ourselves. That is how our society works. We believe in others more than we believe in ourselves. “For the next 30 years I chased after only good drawing… I never drew for fun anymore” (Barry, 170). We try to do things society would approve of. If society does not like something, then we stop doing it. It does not matter if it makes us happy. The only thing that matters is the society’s opinion. The text communicated...

Introspective Hawaii

...June 15, 2011 Today is my 2nd official day in Hawaii, and I don’t want to leave. I want to change my plane ticket, find a job, live with somebody (rent a room – fully furnished or something. I only have a few bathing suits and not even toiletries with me) and stay out here for the summer. Imagine, working for the summer in Kauai. I might be able to try to change my ticket, if my parents have about a $100 bucks or so. Just imagine, they wouldn’t have to worry about me asking for money or anything! I would be out here! I seriously do not want to leave. Once upon a time I thought Jason was my rock, what I needed in life, how can I live without him… and granted I still think about him, but being out here, THIS is what I want. I don’t need this at all, I want it so bad I can taste it. Oh wait, that might be salt water I am tasting. Brittany, Aunt Kathy and I went to the harbor today where the Marriot is. Went into the glorious water and while it was a bit colder, it wasn’t that bad. Crystal clear. We walked through the Marriot and I took pictures of practically every statue we saw. The inside of the Marriot was like The Breakers in Florida. Breathtaking. The view was amazing, the beach was amazing, everything was amazing. Except The Breakers was full of wood and this place is full of marble. I keep texting Mom and telling her she needs to get out here. They both should sell everything and move … well, its hard to see them selling the RV and the house to move out here, but...

...to me that in the future I’m in a position where I can be financially stable and support myself. I think being able to support yourself financially by working hard and earning respect in a career are important to someone’s happiness because without that respect and hard work I don’t think you would feel very good about yourself as a person. I do believe that having money and material goods can/does make people happy. If you have money then you can buy the things that you want for yourself but not only that, you can also either buy things for others who are important to you or donate money to important charities/causes. I think being able to give to others is something that makes many people feel good and it makes them happy to see their friends and family happy, especially because of them. Another reason having money makes people happy is that if you are in a secure position financially you don’t have to worry about paying the bills or the other daily necessities. However, although money is definitely a luxury that many enjoy I don’t think you need money to be happy. I think that if you are surrounded with people you love and you have everything you truly need then I think you can be equally as happy as you would be if you had lots of money and material...

How to Be a Good Son or Daughter

...some nice parents don’t have good children, or some people are good sons or daughters even though their parents are bad. A good son or daughter should have certain qualities. Being hard working, sympathetic, and respectful of parents are the most important qualities of a good son or daughter. First of all, a good son or daughter should be a hard working person. A good child usually makes parents happy, and parents are happy when their children do what they are supposed to do. For example, if a child is a student, she is supposed to study hard. If she studies hard, whether she gets good grade or not, her parents are pleased with her. In addition, in Vietnam we value children as good sons or daughters when they do not make their parents worry about them. For instance, a boy after graduation from a university got a job and worked hard. Although he did not get a good—paying job, he earned enough to take care of himself. That boy is a good son because he is self—reliant and his parents don’t have to worry about him. Being hard working has remained the same over time in my culture. Additionally, to be sympathetic is one of the most important qualities of a good child. Parents who have to work hard to feed their children are usually tired after a long day. As a result, they sometimes get angry easily and may overreact with their children very small mistakes. If their children were sympathetic, they would understand and would not hate or think that parents don’t love them. Moreover...

Choices Essay

...Working Worries Life is full of choices. Whether they are good or bad; they are still choices no matter what you label them as. Now with me being only twenty-two years old, I don’t believe that I have had to make too many crazy choices but when I think of significant choices that I have needed to make only one pops up into my mind. I think of my decision to begin college or not. This was difficult for me because I was ready to start my life in the “real world” as soon as I walked out of my high school doors on graduation day, so I began by getting a regular job. Little did I know that just a plain “job” was not going to be what I had envisioned. The reason why I think the decision to come to college is a big deal is because of all the other things that the decision affects. For example, starting college means that I need to focus a lot of my energy and attention to doing well in classes, where if I decided to just get another job, then I would have to focus on doing well with my work and my boss. Also starting college means that I need to take a loan out to help pay for my new education. I kept putting off the decision because of all the worries and fears I had about college work and the expenses that would come with my idea of a proper education. After working a few “dead end” jobs that could barely support the gas needed to drive to these “Jobs”, I made my decision. Obviously I decided on starting college, I decided on this course because I had been working straight...

...Everyone wants to be happy in this world. But thee are only a few people who are happy. Some people believe that wealth gives happiness. They spend most of their time and energy in acquiring it. There are some others who seek power to gain happiness. Different means can be adopted to attain power. One may attain power in the political sphere. One may even try to become a dictator after gaining power. Some try to establish their superiority over others. But even such powers don't give happiness. With power one can force others to do certain things but there is a world of difference between the action forced and spontaneous action. Ayn Rand's Diction In Anthem

...Many people in our world say that freedom is one of the best things to have. People can do things freely and don’t have to worry about other judging them. In Anthem, Ayn Rand uses diction to show that freedom leads to happiness. In Anthem, the main character Equality says “It has been a day of wonder, this, our first day in the forest”(Rand 78). Rand uses the word wonder to explain how Equality feels and he has never felt this way. Before he went into the forest, he lived in a society that was dreadful. He had no such thing as freedom, or the ability to be different. When he went into the Uncharted Forest, he realized it was a better place and that made Equality happier. “We did not wish to move. We thought suddenly we could lie thus as long...

Before I Die I Want to

...I will only highlight a few that I really would like to be able to focus on. One thing that I want to be able to do before I die is to be able to live happy and relaxed for a long period of time. Another thing that I would want to be able to do before I die is to travel to a few different countries or even states for example in particular South Korea and maybe London. Something else that I would want to be able to accomplish before I die is to be at the top position possible at a job in the IT field or some computer related position. Lastly before I die I would like to be able to live life without regrets. The reasoning behind me wanting to be able to live a happy and relaxed life is because ever since I got into high school I don’t think have been living constantly happy life, and I have defiantly not been able to be relaxed because I picked up a job that I almost work every day and have lots of things I have to constantly worry about especially now that I’m in college, and my grades really matter to me now and hoping that I will be able to do well in my classes. Another reason that I would want to live happily is because living happy can help your life span so If I continue on living stressed out and worried about things every day I feel like it can affect my health in the long term, I feel like being able to live worry free would be such a good feeling. I really want to be able to travel the world when I am older because I feel like I will really be able to appreciate...

Happiness In Aldous Huxley's Brave New World

...getting what they wanted, they'd choose getting what they wanted every time. This satisfaction of desire, the person would believe, would make them happy. In order to maintain its stability, the State in Brave New World ensures that all its citizens get exactly what they want all the time. In other words, the State is designed to make people happy. According to Tom Stewart, this universal "happiness" is achieved in three ways: “The first is, state uses biological science and psychological conditioning to make sure that each citizen is not only suited to its job but actually prefers that role to anything else. Secondly, through the promotion of promiscuous sex as virtuous...
