ZACHMAN FRAMEWORK
The Zachman Framework was created in 1987 with a publication in the IBM Systems Journal discussing the challenge/vision of architectures that would guide the field for the next 20 years and manage complexity of distributed systems. Mr. Zachman thought success of business would depend on information systems as a disciplined approach to managing the enterprise. The idea of Zachmans’ vision was for business value to increase with use of a holistic approach to systems architecture that addresses every perspective of the enterprise. Zachman was instrumental in the Department of Defense creating enterprise architecture (Sessions, 2007). The methodology seems to be more of an architectural taxonomy that is a method of organizing and categorizing artifacts instead of a framework. The word” framework” does not adequately describe the Zachman Framework. The Zachman Framework method describes the relationships between charts and models design of a business system. “The primary strength of the Zachman Framework is that it explicitly shows the many views that need to be addressed by architecture” (Inmon, Zachman, & Geiger, 1997). The views are conceptionally designed for the users to understand. The ideas follow a concise roadmap for the enterprise to use as a guideline for business processes. John Zachman describes his framework as a logical structure for classifying descriptive representations of an Organization that contribute concepts to management of the Enterprise and development of its business systems. The framework can be used not only for IT but also for Enterprise engineering and manufacturing. John Zachman originally expressed his IT taxonomy relating to the building industry as an analogy. He used architectural artifacts with a two-dimensional organization, the multiple players in the game were one dimension, the (physical building) where the players are the owner (payer of project), and the builder (coordination of construction) are some aspects of the framework.
Zachman used different views in a six by six matrix. They address the what, how, when, who, where, and why? The framework creates a structure where organization can plug in more specific architectures that allow methodologies to work together and create a comprehensive technology solution. The cells may be expressed by themselves and reflected by a different design model and modified to fit the scope of a project.
Zachman gives an adequate description of the Zachman Framework methodology and concepts. He describes the Zachman framework as the following concepts that include:
Strategy - .The organization systems development effort.
Analysis - The requirements of specific detailed definitions for certain areas
Design - The requirements for specific application technology to defined analysis
Construction – The actual construction
Documentation -The preparation of user manuals used to describe the system
Transition - The implementation of system as part of the infrastructure of the organization
Product The monitoring to ensure continuation of business needs relating to organization. The product follows the aforementioned concepts in a unique manner that can increase value in the Enterprise. The concepts allow organizations a path to follow for architectural design from start to implementation of the product.
The rows represent points of view of different players in the systems development process and columns represent different facets of the process. The players are Scope (Ballpark view) that relate to nature and purpose of the business to establish context of system development. The Model of the business (Owner's view) is the business structure and functions/processes. The Model of the information system (Architect's view) will define the business described in step 2, in information terms. The area where row two describes business functions is perceived by the users, row three describes them specifically as transformations of data. The row two describes all things of interest to the enterprise, row three describes things in which the organization wants to collect and maintain information, and begins a description of that information. The Technology model (Designer's view) is a Description of how technology is use to address information processing needs. The Detailed representations (Builder’s view) are a view of the program listings, database specifications, networks constitute a particular system. These are all expressed in a particular language. The basic model of each column is defined uniquely, but related across, and down the matrix. The six categories of enterprise architecture components, and the underlying interrogatives that they answer, form the columns of the Zachman Framework. The Zachman Framework addresses what, how, where, who, when and why. The data description asks what and the function description asks how. The Network description addresses the Where. The people description address who and the time description ask when. The motivation description addresses the why (Zachman, 1987). From an article on www.sybase.com; the enterprise that has used framework successfully is Sybase. Sybase is an industrial leader who delivers enterprise and mobile software. Power Designer tool is produced by Sybase Company. Power Designer runs under Windows as a native application and. supports model driven architecture software design. This is how the Zachman Framework was used as concept for the model driven architecture. The Power Designer for enterprise architecture gives a model driver approach that aids in implementation of effective information and enterprise architecture. The Power Designer uses modeling to support enterprise architecture from business goods through implementation and use of link and sync technology that removes silos, increase alignment, and improve business agility. The Power Designer automatically captures the intersection between architectural layers/perspectives of the enterprise, where users from all groups can visualize and implement quick, reliable, and predictable change (Sybase, 2009).
The Malaysian education community also employed EA in response to the need to improve their information storage method. They decided that a digital library would improve their information flow, allowing individuals to work from their own separate terminals. They chose to employ the Zachman Framework since it was holistic in nature, involved all stakeholders in the development process, considered all aspects of the digital library design, and due to the fact that it could be applied to all domains. Data was collected in order to populate the digital library framework, in the form of individual interviews with the students, surveys, on-site inspections and analysis of student report quality. The outcome of this EA initiative was that the company was able to use the Zachman framework to help create an environment that supported the building of a remote access system to the digital library from home. This had the effect of optimizing the learning environment and allowed students to produce reports of much higher quality as information was available anytime at anyplace (Abdullah & Zainab, 2008). The risk reported are related to Cloud computing and the unpredictability of technology and the fast trends that relate to information systems. The cloud can present risks due to breaches within cloud and how hackers work hard to attacks in cyberspace. According to Session’s Zachman Framework is ineffective in addressing reduction of expenses or how to decrease business costs. Sessions says Zachman Framework is ineffective in creating effective governance. He feels the Zachman Framework does not address effective creation of the enterprise architecture. Another major challenge of the Zachman framework is its lack of depth/instructional processes, lack of a repository storing the framework in accordance with the integrity rules and lack of a popular modelling notation for all of its columns (Fatolahi & Shams, 2006). It is also not scalable as it generates large amounts of data. The good points are the completeness of the taxonomy method of classification of various architectural artifacts. This use of taxonomy sets Zachman Framework apart from the other architect designs. The Zachman Framework provides a holistic view and aids in identity of the gaps within the business processes. It is useful in commercial packages for various enterprises. Zachman Framework allows definition of artifact delivery by projects requirements of the architectural governance. The successful enterprise methodology will give improved focus and organizational goals and decrease number of failed systems within the enterprise. The improvement of agility of new systems and close alignment of IT deliverables and business processes allow Zachman Framework to be recognized as a leader in the architectural community. The Zachman Framework appears to be excellent as a starting point for the enterprise but can be difficult to follow for long-term usage.

Power of Packaging

...Bobby Lynch Professor LaPointe English Composition I 14 February 2016 New, Again: The Power of Packaging and its Effect on Consumer Expectations The package containing the video game Madden NFL ’16 contains a single striking image on the front and a plethora of words and pictures on the back. The front contains an action shot of wide receiver Odell Beckham Junior making a one-handed grab, set against the backdrop of a full stadium almost drowned out by the bright lights illuminating it. It has the EA Sports logo in almost the dead center, covering part of Beckham’s body, under which the title is printed across the image in shiny silver lettering. The NFL logo appears four times in this one image; twice on patches on the uniform of Odell Beckham, once in the title of the game, and a final time on a holographic sticker stuck to the front of the game. In the top left corner there is a small image advertising a new game mode called Draft Champions. It contains the Draft Champions logo with the words “All-New Fantasy Mode” surrounding it. On the bottom left is the ESRB rating, E for everyone. All of this is within the parameters of the box, which contains green trim and says Xbox One at the top. The back is much busier, with three separate action shots of football players in various positions. The largest image is a cornerback in a celebratory pose, under which it says, “Your Draft. Your Fantasy.” It then goes on to describe the all new Draft Champions mode, highlighting...

Recommendation Report

...Subject: Company Profile The company I am researching will be EA Games and its implementation of a $10 fee charged to gamers. EA develops, publishes, and distributes software for a variety of consoles that range from computer games to mobile software . EA was founded in 1982 and holds popular titles under its name such as Madden, FIFA, The Sims, and Battlefield, among others. EA has held a favorable market share over a 15-year period, and in an industry where software companies frequently enter and exit because of growing competition that can come from amateur developers to other well financed companies, only shows that this market share position is evidence of the popularity and quality of their products. Since the early 2000’s the internet has emerged and is becoming integrated with everything we use, as an industry software companies, including EA, have evolved multiplayer gaming into online entities that carry their own experiences past the story line assigned with each game. The Issue Originally games were simple and once played to the end, there was little left. Since the introduction of online multiplayer features, software companies have found ways to market new products. EA and many other developers found that by users would pay for virtual perks and advantages and that these virtual purchases created significant revenue for their company . EA however, took it a step further and charged users a $10 fee to access the games online features if the user was not the...

Swot Analysis of Ea (Apa Format)

...SWOT Analysis on Electronic Arts Sports [] [Name of Instructor] [Course Title] [Date] Background of the Company Electronic Arts (EA) are an international organization that deals with the development, marketing, publishing and distribution of video games all over the world. US census bureau identified electronic arts as software publishers industry. EA is well-established and independent producers of video games and according to the study by Thompson (2007), EA made global market up to $35 billion. In 2005, it was observed that the US made sales up to $7 billion along with the video games made by EA, and this amount was predicted to grow more in order, to set a record. The prediction was made on the analysis that retailers would be purchasing an Xbox 360, Sony’s new play station and Nintendo Wii in bulk. But, unfortunately, the originality of new consoles tapered off and a decline in sale was observed by 2010. There are various factors that contribute to progress the popularity and demands of video games among masses. Likewise, these video games were made, themed and styled to satisfy needs of all age groups specifically youth. Secondly, graphics play an important part in expanding the fame and demand of video games. EA showed a tremendous growth in the global market by meeting the needs of customers and by marketed the items properly, exactly according to the increasing budgets, sale promotions and advertisement levels. Visual Age

...these, are visually satisfying reality altering objects that are finding their way into households across the globe more and more each day via internet and cable television. The reason for this I believe is the diversity of the game developers today. They are targeting audiences of all ages, races, genders, and so much more when they produce and create their games. Electronic Arts is an American game publisher and developer that has perfected over 30 years the art by creating a thriving company basing all of its games off the targeted audience, providing immersing gameplay, as well as the means to get the games out and into the world. This will be my criteria for the 3 game advertisements; Battlefield 3, Madden NFL 25, and Create developed by EA that I will be evaluating. Battlefield 3; a first person shooter produced by Digital Illusions Creative Entertainment also known as “DICE” portrays large scale military firefights and battles, electrifying story mode gameplay, all the while being enhanced by the technological leaps in graphic design. All three of these things can meet the criteria of targeted audiences and the immersing gameplay. Just by watching the very brief launch trailer for the game it is clear that the target audience is young adult males, even more respectfully retired and active duty military. As a former active duty service member, I understand that veterans sometimes feel that rush of adrenaline by firing an M240 Bravo machine gun, throwing a grenade, or maybe...

Like Us on Facebook A representative from 2K Sports said, "Most players come in and say 'whoa that's a lot of cameras'...but it's a static process. They just do a couple of facial expressions and from those expressions we can build movement from that." For several years, 2K has been the leading game developer in terms of creating a video game focusing on the NBA. EA Sports officially announced its comeback by developing a highly anticipated version of the game called "NBA Live 14". Zachman Framework

...approach to architecture is called Zachman framework for Information systems architecture (ISA). The first version of the framework was released in 1987 and has been revised multiple times after that. The framework draws on Zachman’s experience of how business processes are managed in complex products and requires as engineered approach to development and modification. The framework allows one to view how a same product can be described in multiple different ways by different participants depending on their perspective of product’s purpose. Zachman framework shows how different perspective exists and how they can fit together. Its more of a taxonomy than a framework. The easiest way to understand the Zachman Enterprise architecture framework is to view it as a classification scheme represented visually as a table or matrix, with 30 boxes or cells organized in to six columns. Each cell represents a unique mode and can be described using its own technique such as flowchart, entity -relationships diagram. The framework basically explains how cells in different columns and rows related to each other. Conceptual graphs are used to formally define the logical relationships between different cells. The decomposition into cells makes it easier to apply subject matter to each cell. Each row represents a distinctive from the perspective of different participants. Each column represents the questions that are asked to each participants. The framework comes with 7 rules that will help the...

It spells out whether there is sufficient documentary basis to pursue a problem which came to the attention of the student or there is none. The review of related literature serves the following purposes: 1. Generally, it provides the formal and scholarly data proving that there is sufficient reason to pursue the problem. 2. It provides a clearer understanding of the problem of the study, the circumstances surrounding the problem, and the approaches to pursue the study. 3. It provides the needed comprehensive information of underlying theories, concepts, and principles which are essential in developing the theoretical and conceptual frameworks. 4. It is the documentary proof that the current undertaking is filling-in a research gap. 5. It is the proof that the current undertaking is not duplicative of any other work. In some institutions, the portion of the thesis dealing with the review of related literature is incorporated in the first chapter where the background of the study is discussed. Also, when there is dearth of related materials, particularly in exploratory studies, it is quite awkward to have a separate chapter for the reviewed literature. A...
