In the myth “Phaethon” as retold by Edith Hamilton Phaethon believes he is the son of the sun god so he goes to the palace of the sun. As he gets there he is forced to go no farther because the palace is to bright the sun god asked what the boy wanted to say if he was his dad. When he heard this he took of his crown and said that he was but if he didn't believe he would swear on the river of Styx that he could have whatever his heart desired. There for the Phaethon said he wants to drive the sun god's chariot the sun god said he cannot refuse but he tried to warn him that no one but himself can drive the chariot. Phaethon does not change his mind he he still wants to drive the chariot the sun god can't refuse. As Phaethon gets in the horses
