...Organizational Effectiveness ORG/581 Organizational Effectiveness The survival of an organization must have the ability to change with the environment. New generations and advanced technology continue to challenge organizations. To completely gain an understanding on the effectiveness of an organization, it is important to identify the three key metrics and provide an example for each. Next, a company will be selected for ineffectiveness and a description of practices that have contributed to the organizations ineffectiveness. The last metric is recognized for the beneficial purpose toward the effectiveness on the organization. Key Metrics and Examples "Because managers are responsible for utilizing organizational resources in a way that maximizes an organization’s ability to create value, it is important to understand how they evaluate organizational performance" (Jones, 2010, p. 15). The three key metrics for an effective organization are control, innovation, and efficiency. The first key metric is control which is defined as focusing on the customers, stakeholders, and internal and external resources of the organization. The second key metric is innovation which means the recreation or discovery of a new product. During the innovation of a new product, the organization must then look into developing new skills and processes for the employees. The third key metric is efficiency which means to stay on top of competitive products, gaining knowledge of new...

...The aim of this essay is to reveal the problems of company L’Oréal, try to solve them and therefore increase efficiency and/or effectiveness. L’Oréal used to be a worldwide known company with high profit, and many subsidiary companies. As years passed by, the profit and the number of subsidiary companies grew. Naturally, it was worth it to have such a high number of them, because the present economic status made it possible. But around 2008, the whole world started to suffer from the financial crisis. It is logical, that if people has to spend less money, they will cut the amount of money spent on cosmetics, entertainment and will decrease the consumption of high quality products. We also know that the producs in cosmetics industry are not really differ from each other, that is why people will choose the cheaper ones, because of the crisis. L’Oréal should specify itself to be more conspicouos from the other products. Real life examples show that if someone does many different things, she or he will be less specified than doing less things in the same time. For example if I try to study while the radio and TV are switched on, I will not be as effect ive as I would be if I would concentrate only on studying. We think that the proper solution would be the decreasing of the number of the subsidiary companies because of the case written above. Therefore L’Oréal would be able to reduce the costs of advertising (which they spend a...

...4. Significance and Justifications for the Study The study of E-learning effectiveness is important. It is because we have to define that whether learning by using electronic media or through the Internet is effective or not. Nowadays, technology have helped human in all types of activity including education. This is what we can see in our daily life. Although technology is getting more advances, but there is not necessarily that it can help a lot in education field. Throughout this research, we have to find out the factors and how the factors affect the effectiveness of E-learning. Since technology nowadays is advances than older time, people would rely on electronic device. So, E-learning will be more practical and effective since people nowadays will have more interested on learning by using the combination of technology and education. Besides, with the Internet available, knowledge can spread widely. This can foster the process of learning and people can gain knowledge faster. E-learning may benefits to all of the users which means both of the learners and instructors. Let’s say if a company chooses to train their employee by using E-learning, this may result to material cost decrease. It is because the company doesn’t have to prepare an operating room just for the training purpose. E-learning can be flexible because the learners can study anywhere and anytime as long as there is device and also connection available. The advantages of E-learning are yet...

...As a child, Walls' parents chose an alternative lifestyle which they saw as beneficial, but in reality subjected their children to abuse, neglect and extreme poverty. The children had a sad and independent childhood with their parents, who often tended to their needs over their children. In The Glass Castle, Jeannette Walls writes of how as a young adult she pulled herself out of the unhealthy lifestyle of her parents, and managed to make something of herself. In The Glass Castle, Rex and Rosemary are not the ideal American parents, but they would be considered effective. They would be considered effective because they taught their children to stand up for themselves, independent, supportive and supportive and always there for each other. One of the effects that the Wall’s parents had on their children was teaching them to stand up for themselves. “The mattress shot forward, and our arsenal of rocks flew through the air. I heard them thud against Ernie’s body and clatter on the road. He screamed and cursed as his bike skidded” (166). When Brian and Jeannette go against the neighborhood bullies they show that they may not have money or what other families have but they are clever. They demonstrate their cleverness by creating their own catapult to stop Ernie Goad and his friends. To sum it all up, Jeannette and Brian learn to stand up for themselves by being a team. The second effect that the Wall’s parents had on their children was teaching them to become independent. “I was...

...Topic: Effectiveness of training in retention of employees Literature Review: Effective retention To understand how to retain good employees, you first need to know what they’re looking for. Today, the best employees want: * Career development opportunities and a chance to grow in their chosen field * Regular feedback on how both they and the company are doing * A chance to contribute directly to the organization and be recognized for doing so * Flexible work schedules that recognize their need for work/life balance * A good salary or wage and an opportunity to increase it over time * Benefits tailored to their individual needs Good retention starts from the time you hire employees to the time they leave your company. Training and development are key factors in helping employees grow with your company and stay marketable in their field. Learning on the job can lead to a more motivated and productive workforce and enable your staff to keep up with the latest trends in areas such as technology and people management. According to the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) (16 Aug, 2005), training is often seen as a distraction from the day-to-day running of the business and attention to areas such as people management can be squeezed by work pressures. Its survey, ‘Who Learns At Work’, found that staff at small businesses are more likely to feel they are offered insufficient training opportunities than those in larger firms. Shirley...

...A. What is the difference between efficiency and effectiveness? While efficiency and effectiveness are interlinked they are different. Efficiency, according to the textbook is, “getting work done with a minimum of effort, waste or expense.” Efficiency is a means or a process to reduce or eliminate any waste to a business’s scarce tangible and intangible resources has such as time, cash, supplies, raw materials, capital, and labor, which can cut into profit margins. The longer you have performed a task you find ways do it better and quicker, making you more productive. This then gives you a competitive advantage because you are more than effective; you are efficient at your specialty. Ultimately it is about streamlining and cutting costs in the right and professional manner. While effectiveness, according to the textbook is, “accomplishing tasks that help fulfill organizational objectives.” Effectiveness involves middle and front-line managers using their technical and human skills to lead and motive workers to completing a task or multiple tasks to meet organizational objectives towards a clear end goal or vision set by the CEO; which the company and individuals benefit. Unfortunately a company can be wasteful in many ways but its performance will still be adequate enough to meet objectives. B. Which is more important to performance? Arguably both efficiency and effectiveness are very important to business performance, however the main definition for performance is “1)...

...Blacksburg, Virginia Keywords: Geotextile, Life Cycle Cost Analysis, Flexible Pavement, Cost Effectiveness, Agency Costs, User Costs EFFECTIVESS OF USING GEOTEXTILES IN FLEXIBLE PAVEMENTS: LIFE-CYCLE COST ANALYSIS Shih-Hsien Yang (ABSTRACT) Using geotextiles in secondary roads to stabilize weak subgrades has been a well accepted practice over the past thirty years. However, from an economical point of view, a complete life cycle cost analysis (LCCA), which includes not only costs to agencies but also costs to users, is urgently needed to assess the benefits of using geotextile in secondary road flexible pavement. Two design methods were used to quantify the improvements of using geotextiles in pavements. One was developed at Virginia Tech by Al-Qadi in 1997, and the other was developed at Montana State University by Perkins in 2001. In this study, a comprehensive life cycle cost analysis framework was developed and used to quantify the initial and the future cost of 25 representative low volume road design alternatives. A 50 year analysis cycle was used to compute the cost-effectiveness ratio when geotextiled is used for the design methods. The effects of three flexible pavement design parameters were evaluated; and their impact on the results was investigated. The study concludes that the cost effectiveness ratio from the two design methods shows that the lowest cost-effectiveness ratio using Al-Qadi’s design method is 1.7 and the highest is 3.2. The average is 2.6. For...

...Team Development I. Between expectations from superiors and the demands of a competitive marketplace, many leaders look for new innovations to increase the effectiveness of team projects. Strategies on how to improve the effectiveness of our Transitional Team were researched to ensure our organization’s success. A. Members of any group collaboration must remain effective at all times to ensure success of the objectives and goals as in regards to their organization. Strategies for improving the effectiveness of the Transitional Team include: clarifying the team mission, creating a plan/objective, and conducting progress reviews. 1. When preparing for a major change, it is best to clarify the team mission. Each team member must know and can comprehend the mission, and understand their role in fulfilling such mission (Maroney, 2004). 2. After clarifying the mission, we must collaborate to develop a plan which outlines the team’s goals and objectives, provides strategies for fulfilling the team mission, and successfully accomplishing the goals and objectives (Maroney, 2004). Such plan should also include the responsibilities of each member in relation to fulfilling the mission and goals (Maroney, 2004). 3. Throughout phases, we should conduct progress reviews during collaboration to discuss and analyze results and future plans concerning...

...Chapter 17: Managing Organizational Change and Innovation This chapter discusses what needs to be considered when changing an organization. Some of these changes would be the input and the technological aspect of the business. I retained the most information from this chapter in the section of change agents. There are three agents of change; external, internal and external-internal change agents. External agents of change are temporary. They are used in situations where an organization needs help individual and group behavior. External agents are usually professors or private consultants. Internal agents of change are already apart of the business. They already know how to change an organization. In most cases they are managers who have recently been brought into organization that needs help. External-Internal agents are the combination of both external and internal. An organization uses both approaches to change the problems that have arisen. Question My thought-provoking question is how effective are external and internal change agents? I want to know why because what would be the next step to take to get the company at a good performance level. I know this works in most cases because I have seen it happen. I am just curious. Personal Implication Internal change agents personally affect me the most. My dad is a general manager at Applebee’s and he usually gets sent to stores that have a poor performance. He knows how to run a restaurant successfully. My dad has to...

We would also like to thank Ms.Shindya, Teaching Assistant for scheduling meetings with Prof. Deepa The resources available from our library were extremely useful for our literature study. Most importantly, we thank the students for their time and co-operation in filling our survey Executive Summary The effectiveness of PowerPoint as a teaching aid was observed since its introduction in 1997. In the initial years, the response from the students was highly positive. This could be acknowledged from the higher grades, increase in attendance and reduction in disruptive behaviour, when compared to other mediums like the blackboard and transparent overheads. But, there was also a study which showed that the students’ performance depended on the difficulty of the lecture and not on the medium of teaching. Still, the positive...

...Yabyabin, Jed Cedric A. Reflection Paper: What Is Strategy? K36 What makes strategy different from operational effectiveness (OE)? Is OE necessary to effective strategy formulation and implementation? Why? Porter (1996) describes strategy as the creation of unique and valuable positioning that requires a set of different activities to make competitive trade-offs and strategic fit that creates competitive advantage and superior profitability. Operational effectiveness, on the other hand, refers to performing similar activities better than the rivals through benchmarking and incorporating best industry practices (Michael E. Porter, 1996). Porter (1996) discusses that strategy aims to position the company in performing different activities from its competitors or perform similar operational activities in different ways; whereas operational effectiveness presents how the company compares, acquires, and improves similar operational functions of its competitors. Although operational effectiveness may have its benefits of building efficiency and productivity, it is insufficient and unnecessary to the formulation and implementation of strategy. This is because it drives competitive convergence (Michael E. Porter, 1996) that makes the company homogenous to the other companies in the same playing field for incorporating same operational activities (despite making them “better”). With this, competitors can and may imitate certain management practices, technologies...

Stakeholders want to feel a sense of security where they are investing in. As a leader it’s their job to let them know that the organization appreciates them. Leaders can use to their advantage how the alignment correlates to effective communication. In return the stakeholders can expect a successful organization. By leaders showing enthusiasm and the get up go attitude this will further along gear up the stakeholders to fully communicate. . The “Writer’s Workbench” course presents journalists with a wide variety of explanations regarding how to compose an effective work. The course is divided into four sections: Nuts & Bolts, Special Effects, Blueprints, and Useful Habits. The first section, Nuts & Bolts, elaborates towards the fundamentals of writing an effective paper. Writers should appreciate the content of the Nuts & Bolts section, which presents readers with thorough explanations of the necessary characteristics of journalism. The Beware of Adverbs and Using Strong Verbs subtopics, for example, stood out because writers will discover the level of effectiveness that different parts of speech deliver within a report. Writers may not appreciate the list of verb qualifiers at the end of the “Strong Verbs” subtopic, which does not provide examples regarding why to avoid using the listed examples. Journalists will use the content of this section when they need to omit unnecessary details within their works. The second section of the course is entitled Special Effects, which explains how to write formal and creative. This portion of the course is beneficial, because this section explains how to conduct a vibrant and colorful report, while applying formal writing techniques. The Seeking Original Images subtopic was well elaborated, especially when the author humorously cites athlete Cal Ripken, Jr...
