Kailangan mag kahiwalay sila. ...Team Assignment BU481 Sections M - Group 9 1.     Given 12 cases in the course, what industries and sizes of companies would you like to see covered in the course. Software/Hardware Industry I believe a large sized software or hardware company, founded pre 2000’s would be hugely interesting to research in a business policy course. Companies that come to mind that have also been influential during the Internet boom, and still compete in the software or hardware environment include Yahoo! Inc., Cisco Systems, Microsoft, and lastly Amazon.com Inc.. If the case was current, I believe it would give students a realistic look at the way computers can alter and disrupt the business landscape. It would include many course concepts including leader/follower dynamics, external environment analysis, as well as the different ways a company can bring new or old products and services to new or old markets. All of these companies are in a constant race with one another for market share, and while small competitive advantages can be leveraged into larger ones in a short time, they can be lost in that same time frame. The competition these companies face also exists among small firms operating in leaner capacities. Analyzing any of the above mentioned companies would allow students to be creative while providing an informative view of how these companies are hugely capable of changing the way everyone interacts with the world around us. Emotional Quotient

...KOMAL RIAZ Author is student of LLB (II). She is an active member of study circle. EMOTIONAL QUOTIENT (EQ) The concept of Intelligence Quotient (IQ) which relates to the determination of level of intellect or sharpness of mind of a person is very common. We normally use in our daily conversation that the IQ of a specific person is high or low. However the concept of Emotional Intelligence or Emotional Quotient is relatively new in the field of Psychological Research. Emotional Quotient (EQ) relates to the ability or skill to understand, evaluate and manage the emotions of one’s self and others. This concept got familiarity with the publication of book titled 'Emotional Intelligence' by Daniel Goleman's in 1995. However, the first use of the term "Emotional Intelligence" is usually attributed to Wayne Payne's doctoral thesis, A study of emotion: Developing emotional intelligence from 1985. If we go into the background history, we find that early Emotional Intelligence theory was originally developed during the 1970's and 80's by the work and writings of psychologists Howard Gardner, Peter Salovey and John Mayer. Emotional Intelligence is increasingly relevant to organizational development and developing people, because the EQ principles provide a new way to understand and assess people's behaviors, management styles, attitudes, interpersonal skills, and potentials. Emotional Intelligence is an important consideration in human resources planning, job profiling, recruitment interviewing...

Emotional Intelligence

...Emotional Intelligence (EI) in Leadership 1. Introduction All of us can recall at least one situation when very technically skilled people performed poorly as leaders, despite their intellectual abilities and analytical skills. If we look closer at their behavior, we will see that they could hardly get along with people or stay calm in stressful situations. One of the reasons for poor performance of managers is that for a long time companies’ recruitment processes were based on the belief that one of the most general rule of thumb in the business world is the close link between staff technical skills and their performance. Moreover, employees’ technical skills have been one of the most important drivers of their promotion to leading positions. However, it turns out that in a surprisingly high number of cases, the promotion of highly skilled people to leadership positions did not work out as it was expected. Many companies reviewed their HR policies after Daniel Goleman introduced his new and innovative concept of Emotional Intelligence in 1995. Emotional Intelligence (EI) relates to the self-perceived ability to identify, assess, and control the emotions of oneself, of others, and of groups. Those abilities are as valid, or even more so, than one’s intellectual quotient when it comes to performing better as a manager and a leader (Goleman, 1998). Ever since then, companies have been assessing potential candidates’ emotional intelligence throughout their recruiting processes...

Intelligence

...Intelligence Intelligence is not being educated, successful, or even being smart. You don’t have to have endless knowledge to be intelligent. Intelligence is having the ability and being capable of acquiring and applying knowledge and skills. A person’s intelligence can be measured by an IQ (Intelligence Quotient) test. An IQ test measures a person’s mental performance in fluid intelligence, memory, processing speed, and quantitative reasoning. An Intelligence Quotient is a number representing a person’s reasoning ability compared to the statistical average for their age. The most common and most accurate IQ tests are the Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale and the Stanford-Binet test. The Stanford-Binet test was the very first IQ test, designed by French psychologist, Alfred Binet, in the early 1900’s. The Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale was developed soon after by David Wechsler, an American psychologist. Although there are many other online IQ tests available today, they are not as accurate as the official Wechsler and Stanford-Binet tests. Ninety-five percent of people have an IQ between seventy and one hundred thirty. A lot of people are either just above one hundred thirty or just below seventy. Only five percent of the population have either extremely high IQs, above one hundred forty, or extremely low IQs, below seventy. If you have an IQ of one hundred forty or above, you are considered a “genius” and are eligible to join Mensa, the largest and...

What Is Intelligence

...According to Galton's Eugenics intelligence encompassed things such as reaction time, eyesight, cognitive ability, etc (Psychology History). However, early studies failed to show any validity to Galton's findings and soon enough they fell out of favor. (What is Psychology? p.287) In the decades after Galton's research many psychologist's began to focus heavily on the cognitive aspects of intelligence instead of trying to link it with physical functions such as reaction time and eyesight. During this period researchers nearly debunked Galton's belief that intelligence was mostly heritage. These researchers began publishing tests that could accurately measure a individual's intelligence with a series of critical thinking questions. Among these was Alfred Binet, who was the pioneer in developing such tests and is now known as the father of the modern I.Q. Test (What is Psychology? p.287). Binet's research gave the field of Psychology its first...

Week 7 Testing Intelligence

...Intelligence • What is an intelligence quotient? How is this score determined? The intelligence quotient is a score that is measured by one’s chronological and mental age, and then multiplied by 100. The use of this test is to basically determine the I.Q. of an individual, while taking into account their experience because of their age. To determine the mental age of an individual, a test was given that was developed by Alfred Binet. This test was discovered by testing an equal amount of students, that teachers had labeled dull and bright, and giving them all the same test and averaging the results to determine how close to their age they were. This was contributed to the I.Q. exam. The test arranges the chronological age of an individual as the denominator and the mental age as the numerator. This fraction is then multiplied by one hundred, coming up with the intelligence quotient for that individual. With the experimentation of the test, the determination can be made that an individual that has a mental age equal to their chronological age will have an I.Q. of one hundred. It can also be said, that someone with the mental age greater than their chronological age will have an I.Q. over one hundred. Averaging the test, the most common I.Q. score is one hundred. • Describe the kinds of characteristics commonly assessed in an IQ test. The approaches that determine the characteristics vary from test to test but the characteristics remain the same...
