...Saving private Ryan (1988) directed by Steven Spielberg received critical applause for its realistic portrayal of World War II combat sequences in entire film starting to the end. The scenes that are depicting at the Ohama beach troops landing was named the best battle scene of all time in my opinion. The scene in the film costs US$12 million and involved up to1,500 takes , and the director have taken some of people from the members of the Irish defence forces , and members of local historical re-enactment groups as the second battle group were cased, many people from here was taken to play as German soldiers in the movie as I read from interviews given by film crew .In addition, twenty to thirty actual amputee were used to portray as American soldier which give the clear description of involvement of the actors in every scene as it actually happened during the landing of troops from the first...

...Michael refers to Kat as “The Screw” and Cameron says “I burn, I pine, I perish”, which is a direct quote from “The Taming of the Shrew” (Shakespeare 41). Michael says, “Sweet love, renew thy force”, which is a direct quote from Shakespeare’s sonnet 56 (Andrews 183). Michael also says “The shit hath hitith the fan…ith”, which is poking fun at the early modern English used in the 17th century. The band Letters to Cleo make a guest appearance during the prom scene and one of the songs they sing is “cruel to be kind”, which is a hamlet reference (Dominic 85). ...Genna Cahill English Composition 1001 Essay 2 Microtheme 5 After reading Rachel Adams’s chapter “Sideshow Cinema”, I have gained a new perspective on Tod Browning’s film Freaks. Adams suggests that there may be a fine line between monster and victim regarding the normal people, such as Cleopatra and Hercules, and the freaks, such as Hans and the conjoined Hilton twins. “After establishing Hans as a sympathetic character who suffers unwarranted abuse, the spectacle of Cleo’s body, mutilated at the hands of the freaks, leaves the viewer unsure about who is the victim and who aggressor,” Adams describes (77). Up until the point of Cleo’s revelation as the “chicken-woman”, the normal-looking people leave us to feel more sympathy for the freaks based on the treatment of them. Majority of the film, we see Cleo, Hercules, and their normal friends treat the freaks as inferiors, teasing them subtly to their faces and more so behind their backs. Therefore, in this sense, the normal people can be seen as monsters and the freaks as victims. The effect of the camera also gives us more sympathy for the freaks. The settings in which these people are placed affect the way we see them. For example, Hans is often placed next to larger objects, especially in Cleo’s wagon, and this makes him, in proportion, look much, much smaller than he actually is. This is true when we are looking at Cleopatra from his point of view as well. Compared to Hans, she seems a lot taller, and we can understand...

...Prior to watching “Arrival,” I hadn’t seen any of French-Canadian director Dennis Villeneuve’s films. That wasn’t for lack of desire, as each of his English films, save perhaps “Enemy,” which I know the least about, have struck me as potentially captivating. Despite my interest in his work, however, “Arrival” was my introduction to Villeneuve. While I’m still intrigued by his past and future exploits, I may be slightly less so now. “Arrival” follows Louise Banks (Amy Adams), a world-renowned linguist, enlisted by the military to help interpret the language used by the alien passengers of 12 mysterious spacecraft that recently descended on various parts of earth. Banks’ mission is to discover why the extraterrestrials have come to our blue planet,...

It’s the place where I found my first job in my life. I had been a banker for 2.5 years before coming here. I worked in a credit department and my main task was managing the risk of loans. It was an interesting job and I really liked it. I used the knowledge that I studied in university. I didn’t used English for along time, also my job in Vietnam didn’t use English much therefore now my English is not good. I had to finish the job to improve my English and find a better job. That’s why I came to New Zealand. It’s the first time I went abroad. I have just arrived at Auckland for 6 days but I have a deep impression in Auckland and people in here. It’s a beautiful and peaceful city, people are friendly and lovely. I went to some nice places like Mission Bay, One Tree Hill. They are all beautiful and so romantic, they looked like the scenes that I have seen in Korean films. I took many photos and sent them to my family and friends in Vietnam, they said what a beautiful city. People always help me wherever and whenever I need. I love this city and I want to spend most of my free time to travel around New Zealand. My family has 4 members: my father, my mother, my older brother and I. My parents live and work in my hometown.
