Entertainments Negative Influences

Entertainment has shaped American culture in various ways. In my opinion it has influenced in a mostly negative way. Our culture now is more entertained by negative drama and news. For example, we are entertained by Bruce Jenner’s sudden change of gender more than we are about all the hungry kids around the world who cannot eat. We see “entertainment” such as that and allow our kids to see and idolize that kind of behavior. We see and hear what the majority of our population likes and for the most part it is all garbage. Take the music we listen too, such as, rap, hip hop, even reggaeton, which is pretty much Spanish rap. I can go on and on about the words and lyrics in most songs that are worshipped by many. In rap, hip hop, and reggae most of the lyrics discuss how they want to have relations with and disrespect many women, smoke, drink, and shoot people. This idea has become the new thing to sing about. They make it seem like if you become this type of person, you will be a “man” or idolized. Kids grow up wanting to become this way and most likely will end up in prison because of it. Kids used to grow up into church and discipline; with manners and respect. Now that all of that has been banned from schools, we don’t know as much as we used to. All we know as a culture is our electronics and the entertainment our world now has for us. Even our video games now have very bad messages for kids. I don’t feel that video games and music should have any effect on adults that are brought up right and know right from wrong; but I do feel that in the hands of a child, it can have a long term effect. Take the game, Grand Theft Auto, I would love someone to tell me how that game, in any way, can be educational for us as a culture. The only thing you can get from this game is how to rob people
