The Galatians from this passage I have just read, are actually the group of early Celtic Christians who settled in the area now known as Turkey. Paul the apostle, wrote this book, Epistle to the Galatians, originally as a letter to the Galatians. It is known that Paul was the creator of the churches of Galatia and was responsible for the alteration from Paganism to Christianity within that area. The primary copy of this letter was not found but a similar copy was located in 200AD. The original copy is said to have been written sometime during 50AD, a significant time for Christianity as Jesus had only died around 20 years prior and there was already a large flow of conversions from other religions to Christianity.

It warns about not using our freedom to live life according to the flesh but rather according to the Spirit. We must fulfil Christ’s commandment to love and serve our neighbours with the freedom we have been granted. In our current day, this message is still relevant as there are still tempting choices very similar to those listed by Paul in his letters. He describes obscene and impure acts such as fornication and licentiousness, which were an issue back then and are still now. Even within the church today, there have been unfortunate incidents that contradict the message that Paul was trying to put forward. The Catholic Church has been convicted with a series of child sexual abuse crimes that have affected the church in a very negative way. These incidents are a complete contradiction of what the church is supposed to be preaching and shows how the teachings of Paul have been misinterpreted, which only lead to evil and wicked actionss. If we are to live true and fulfilling lives then we must follow a life to not serve the flesh but serve others.
