You will, for example, write reports: • • • • for module assignments, e.g. case study reports presenting the results of an individual research project summarising the result of a group project and presentation reflecting on a work experience or other placement you were involved in Effective Learning Service 1 Bradford University School of Management Report Writing What’s the difference between a report and an essay? There are two main differences: aim and presentation. Aim Essays give you more opportunity to expand on possibilities, ideas or concepts. Reports deal with describing and/or analysing actual past events. Reports can be written that make predictions or recommendations for the future, but these are usually the result of an analysis of past events or of current or past social, cultural or economic phenomena. The English statesman, Sir Thomas More, wrote an essay titled Utopia, which visualised an ideal state or ‘perfect world’. He couldn’t have written a report on the same topic! Presentation Reports are also usually broken up into sections, each section with a relevant sub-heading. Bullet points, illustrations, diagrams, charts, tables can also be...

...Unit 6 Project Veterans Having Trouble Finding Jobs After the Military Mark Everhart Kaplan University Professor Sandra Fontana Veterans who have served this country by going to war are quickly realizing that America is not appreciating the sacrifices made for our service members. Veterans are being passed over for employment for many different reasons. Some of these reasons include Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), lack of job skills for performing civilian jobs, and the inability to cope with the transition from military to civilian life. The unemployment rate for veterans is 6.9 percent (Norman, 2012). The government and the employers need to work together to make the transition out of the military a smoother process. The Department of Veteran Affairs cannot process the applications for the G.I. Bill fast enough to accommodate the veterans. Veterans lack the job skills necessary to perform jobs in the civilian sector after the military. All military veterans should have special training, skill and mind set for the transition from military to civilian life, provided by the government and employers to ensure employability after serving their country regardless of how many years of service one has served. Veterans lack the special training and skills that are necessary to compete with the civilian population. Veterans often have jobs that cannot transfer to the civilian world (Hefling, 2011). For instance if they are an infantryman, they cannot get a job as a mechanic....

...AP US History, often referred to as 'APUSH' (A as in letter A and push as in push--literally), is the CollegeBoard's second most frequently taken AP class (first is AP English Language and Composition). I took this class during my sophomore year, and I got an A in the class and a 4 on the exam, if you were curious. I was very interested in succeeding in that class and I wanted to share some advice on what helped me, and what I wish I did. The AP US History course is divided up into nine units, and there are seven themes (identity, work exchange, and technology, peopling, politics and power, America in the World, environment and geography, and ideas, beliefs, cultures) that can be, and are applied to each unit. The class is to be identical...

...College Composition I – Unit 3 Project Essay Kristen De Bragga Kaplan University CM107 Courage is acting in the moment without thought or concern for your own well being while another is in danger. Roderick Joseph De Bragga showed courage when he selflessly gave his life without hesitation to save the life of his seven year old son who was drowning. Roderick “Roddy” De Bragga owned and ran a lobster boat out of Stonington Harbor in Connecticut. On July 4, 1974 Roddy took his two small children, Debra who was eleven years of age and “Little” Roddy who was seven years of age, with him in the morning to cast out a few lobster pots and also bring in some lobster for a family bbq planned for that afternoon. The children spent the morning writing numbers on the buoys attached to the pots while Roddy cast the pots into the water. As Roddy cast a pot into the water somehow the rope tangled around the ankle of his son. The rope pulled the boy into the water. Roddy jumped into the ocean to retrieve the boy. Debra frantically tried to contact her Uncle a short distance away for help by using the CB radio but was unsuccessful due to private marine crafts using the channels for personal use. Roddy was able to find and bring his son above water. They came to the surface once but the strong undercurrent that day dragged them back under. Both father and son lost their lives that day. Roderick’s actions that day epitomized courage in the way that he instantly jumped into the ocean after...

...IT302-Unit4- Kaplan University Part 1: Dashboard Design. For the dashboard that I anticipated is required to meet the needs of the task that I discussed in Unit 3, I believe that the best approaches are either a Semantic Network or the use of Scenarios, Flowcharts and Cognitive walkthroughs, and more specifically Scenarios. Although this may be the most productive approach, it is likely that in the process of creating the dashboard that parts of a number of the conceptual designs could contribute to the finished product. While the Semantic Network is comprised of elements that would be useful and productive, particularly by providing ease in exploring the problem space and graphical views, it does not offer us all the information that would be constructive. To accomplish that, I believe the use of Scenarios, Flowcharts and Cognitive walkthroughs would provide us with the most useful means to develop a dashboard adequate to provide the functionality we are seeking. Of these, the use of Scenarios would provide the easiest means to develop a dashboard with the desired functionality initially along with the ability to modify easily as required to accomplish what is needed. By creating scenarios and including them in the early development of the dashboard we will provide ourselves with a means to develop a versatile form that can be easily amended as needed to provide a finished console that provides the full functionality that...

...Research Essay The articles “The Clash of Civilizations”, “Jihad vs. McWorld”, “The Coming of Anarchy”, “The Summoning”, “The End of Progressivism”, and “The Myth of Global Ethnic Conflict” all exercise ideas and hypothesis that relate to present day world problems. The authors of these articles have strong beliefs about issues that could potentially lead to an apocalyptic future plagued with war. Throughout this paper I will talk about the main ideas of each article, compare and contrast the articles, and discuss my opinion about the article. In the article “The Clash of Civilizations”, Samuel P. Huntington believes that the fundamental source of conflict in the future will be a conflict on culture. Huntington strongly believes that 8 basic civilizations will clash in the future. These civilizations are Western, Confucian, Japanese, Islamic, Hindu, Slavic Orthodox, Latin American, and possibly African. Huntington defines a civilization as the highest cultural grouping of people and the broadest level of cultural identity people have short of what distinguishes them from other species. Civilizations can be seen as a cultural entity with commonalities in language, history, religion, customs, institutions, and may contain several nation states. Huntington believes these conflicts will occur because the world is becoming a smaller place, there is a rapid growth of civilization-consciousness, cultural characteristics and differences are less mutable and less easily compromised...

...Political-Editorial Cartoon By Gary Bacskay Kaplan University HU345 Professor Sean Choi 3-14-2014 I chose a cartoon that is portraying President Obama on a fighter jet exclaiming that we are in need of Defense Cuts. Photo by Michael Ramirez - Townhall http://townhall.com/political-cartoons/michaelramirez/2014/02/26/116552 This cartoon to me is describing how the government (with Obama in charge) is so far in debt, that the government is deciding where they need to cut back the federal budget. What better place to do that than taking money away from the military. This cartoon is displaying a military U.S. fighter jet in the sky with a person (President Obama) straddling the plane behind the cockpit holding a chain saw. It shows that the President just got done cutting the end or the back of the fighter jet off as the back of the jet is falling. There is a phrase that the President is saying, it says; “You Won’t Even Notice The Defense Cuts.” Thesis The most logical area to cut the national debt is by reducing the amount of money that is put into our military branches, but is this the best way to shrink our debt? There are those who think that we do not need our military. But I truly believe this is not the way to fix our problem. We need our military whether we like it or not. I know, and I feel much safer knowing that I have my fellow brothers and...
