...Why I Want To Stay In The Army They way society is today…being in the Army is one of the wisest choices I’ve made in my life, many people take being in the Army for granted and have no clue how beneficial the army can be. Your rent is guaranteed paid every month, money for food and your basically approved for anything in the world as long as you serve in the Army or any branch of service. You also gain free knowledge and experience that many outside people in the civilian world do not have the chance or opportunity to be a part of. The Army has a lot to offer and as a smart and knowledgeable individual that I am taking I plan on taking advantage of majority of the things that is being offered to me on a daily basis. The Army is about discipline, being in the right uniform at the right time and place, respecting the leaders above you and your peers under you and being proficient in your MOS .I use to think the Army was not for me I use to think it was too many rules and that it had nothing to offer. Back in June 2008 at age 18 after a year in the service I decided to get out of the Army and work at Wal-Mart, that was the worst mistake I ever made in my life the first thing I missed of course was the guaranteed checks on the 1st and 15th, whether you was sick or took regular leave/emergency leave your pay never changed. While in the army I never worried about being fired, if I was late to work there would be a counseling statement and/or maybe some corrective training it depended...

...time. Maybe this is because respect is not clearly understood. What is respect? The Webster’s Dictionary defines it as an act of giving particular attention or high or special regard. Another definition shows respect as a feeling or attitude of admiration and deference toward somebody or something. And disrespect is defined as the lack of respect. This does not explain completely what it is, but at least it gives us an idea about what it may be. As a matter of fact, there are many forms of respect. There is physical respect. Physical respect is shown through body language. The way you might move your arms and hands while talking to someone, or the way you might stand, and even your facial expressions. People have different definitions than others when it comes to respect, so when it comes to physical respect, you have to be careful on how you present yourself. In the army, when talking to an NCO, lower ranking soldiers should always stand at parade rest. This is part of the army standard. Another form of respect is mental or emotional respect. This is the way you perceive someone. Verbal respect is also a form of respect. This form is the one that is most abused. When a lower ranking soldier is speaking to an NCO, they should always be professional and respectful towards this person. And direct them with their proper title, such as sergeant, first sergeant, etc. I feel that respect should go both ways and if the soldier wants to be treated with respect by their chain of command, then...

...Most people don't know that people in the military can be paid up to $136,000 per year, but this is not the only benefit. Being in the military can provide helpful benefits such as health, schooling, and even insurance. The majority of the people in the United States know that enlisting in selective service is federal law and if a person doesn't sign up, they can put them in jail. The selective service is used when our nation is in crisis and we do not have enough people in the voluntary service. However, it's possible for the men who sign up not to have to go to war. The last time men were drafted into war was between 1955 to 1975 during the Vietnam War. Men drafted into the Civil War, World War 1 and more. During the Revolutionary War, men could go to war and leave when they wanted to, but that meant they had very few people to fight. After World War II, they created the draft to have enough people to go to war. This goes to show that being able to fight for your country is an honor. A military draft is a good idea because it's men's civic duty, the benefits, and patriotism. The first reason is that it's a man's civic duty to go to war. Since World War 1, men have been drafted without a choice and before that, men...

...organization and group depends on how well these goals are understood by leaders, members and employees. As a member of the U.S. Army each goal as stated is implemented in the way we operate our Army and the understanding and teaching has lead to successful wining Army that has help shape our country and citizens. I will explain to you why each of the goals as stated can help or hurt the way organizations are operated and how it affects the behavior of the employees or members. Every organization has their own way of setting goals and these goals must be determine by the leaders and members of the group. When setting goals, keep these goals key points in mind, they should be realistic and attainable, they should improve the organization (morale, monetary, etc.), all the people should be involved in the goal-setting process, and the program should be developed to ach eve each goal. Effective group work is influenced by whether or not groups periodically reflect on how well they are influencing and plan how to improve their work processes (Johnson & Johnson, 2009, p. 111). In the military we follow four characteristics of goal setting, goal difficulty, goal specificity, feedback, and participation in goal setting. Increasing your employees or members goal difficulty increases their challenges and enhances the amount of effort to achieve the (U.S. Army Handbook, 1973). The...

...relationship with the Army. Respect is not something that is done when it is convenient, it is done at all times. The Army teaches this as part of the 7 Core Values for many reasons. Even though the Army teaches us that respect is something that is given to the ranks, it is important to have respect for every soldier that I am in contact with whether or not I like them and whether or not they are ranked above me, below me or with me. It is not about respect for the individual as much as it is about respect for the rank. Everyone deserves to be treated with respect but especially those I am serving my country with. We all have to be part of the same team and treat each other the same way we expect to be treated. It is what keeps us a strong and unified. By having our superiors teach us the value of respect, they are uniting us for when we have to do combat. We have to rely on fellow soldiers as well as our superiors and without respect we would not care about helping each other. I can not expect others to treat me with respect when I am not showing them the same. This is taught to us in boot camp and we are expected to maintain the 7 Core Values at all times without even thinking about it. The 7 Core Values are: Loyalty (Bear true faith and allegiance to the U.S. Constitution, the Army, your unit and other Soldiers.), Duty (Fulfill your obligations), Respect (Treat people as they should be treated), Selfless Service (Put the welfare of the Nation, the Army and your subordinates...

...The Armed Forces have guidelines to follow in every aspect of its stability as a force to lead and defend. To lead and defend you have to have the knowledge and the capability to understand that these requirements come with a price to pay and that it is with the intent of being the best Non Commission Officer (NCO) that you can within the Corp. Each year/month the Army has set numbers/slots to prepare for those to be promoted to withstand the readiness, determination, and loyalty that it takes to become a NCO in each Military Occupational Specialty. By joining the Corp you are set to a standard and also considered to having the knowledge to lead and train soldiers. Understand that this is not the first time the Army has changed the promotion system. Change is good! The Army needed a change and by needing a change they wanted to revamp the promotion system so that promotions would be fair to all and weed out those who are trying to promote early for other reasons. As the Army put in action a new promotion system, it has affected hundreds of junior enlisted Soldiers that are in the promotable status to become a sergeant and staff sergeant. This new promotion system guarantees to revamp the free-for-all system that initially was thought to be fair for all Soldiers. There are still the requirements of getting a total of 800 points but there are just different stipulations that are adjusted. For the revamp of the system it is to focus on the proficiency and to make...

...joining the army. Some of them do not know what a war really is or which consequences you may face when joining the army. There are two stories that help to explain what exactly you do in the army and the effects it has on you. One of the stories is "Soldier's Home" by Ernest Hemingway and the other one is "How to Tell a True War Story" by Tim O'Brien. Both stories have similarities and differences. They are told from different points of view and different situations. “Soldier’s Home” is mainly about a boy named Krebs. Krebs is a boy who enlisted in the Marines in 1917 and did not went back home until summer 1919. I think that Krebs is the way he is because he went away to war without being fully mature. He ended up growing up while in the war, away from his family and everyone he loved. He came home from war so much later because he did not want to face the changes that have happened in his town. I think he was scare to come home because war also changed his way of thinking. Krebs does not get involved with women once he's home because he does not want to work to get a girl. He thinks that American girls are too complicated and that he needs to go through many things to get one of them. He got used to the way European women were because without you talking to them, they would become your friend. Now, thanks to his mother's advice, he is thinking of becoming successful in live. Things like getting a job are rounding his mind. “How to Tell a True War Story” is about O’Brien’s own...

...ENG105 Essay #2 My military community While thinking about what communities have specific languages it was easy for me to think of the United States Army. I served in the U.S. Army for 5 years until I was wounded in Afghanistan and had to medically retire. As I look back at my short military career I would call it a community, or organization that had its own language. The army has a main focus on discipline and structure. The language is spoken through the discipline and structure. The Army has maintained a strict structure of rank to ensure that operations and maintenance run smoothly in stressful environments. In fact rank structure is one of the most defining characteristics of the military and serves a number of purposes. In order for the army to build and maintain this discipline, newer soldiers often need direction and correction from more experienced members in the military. To do this soldiers are assigned ranks according to their experiences in combat or through training. Soldiers are then placed in command of those who are less experienced and hold a lower rank. They can use this authority to enforce disciplinary measures and ensure order and discipline. New soldiers are also sent to basic training when they first begin. You have a drill sergeant that is your leader and guides you in everything you do. His job is to discipline and unify you as a group. They place you in groups durning your training. Now when I was in basic training I was 28...

...United States Army I have been working in the Army for the past seven years, I’ve been deployed a total of three times to Iraq and Afghanistan. In the time I have been in the Army gives me a good opportunity to describe this organization. Mission of the Army The mission of the Army is to prepare the force for unified land operations, responds to threats, sustains and protects the force, and builds military relationships that develop partner defense capacity in order to contribute to a stable and secure area of responsibility. As we can see in here the Army’s mission is one very clear that pretty much all it wants is to preserve the security of all the people in the world and the United States. VISION The vision of the United States Army is one team one fight America's Theater Army in the Pacific - assuring security and stability. Their vision is pretty tight with their mission that pretty much is to keep America safe and stable. During the past years America has been in war with the terrorists all around the world. Trying to mitigate and ensuring to keep a safe place. The Army values are divided into seven that are: Loyalty, Duty, Respect, Selfless Service, Honor, Integrity, and Personal Courage. The army values are what soldiers learn how to live according to these values in basic training; these values are what constitute a transition between being a civilian and becoming a Soldier. The Seven Core Army Values listed below are what being a Soldier is about. LOYALTY Consists...

...Salvation Army The Salvation Army is a Christian Charity Organization with programs that include international aid, assistance to children and families and disaster relief. The mission statement reads, “The Salvation Army, an international movement, is an evangelical part of the Universal Christian Church. Its message is based on the Bible. Its ministry is motivated by the love of God. Its mission is to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ and to meet human needs without discrimination.”(the salvation army history, n.d.) In 1852 William Booth started his ministry career in London, England, taking the message of Jesus Christ to the people face to face. He left the church and the pulpit and began traveling as an independent evangelist. Booth became a well known religious leader with a dedication to fight for the souls of men and women. Some of his first and foremost converts to Christianity were thieves, prostitutes, gamblers and drunks. The converts became soldiers for Christ, known then and now as “Salvationists”. The Salvation Army moved into the United States in 1878 and began an evangelist crusade there. By 1886 the Salvation Army was located in 13 states across the United States. “The Salvation Army movement quickly expanded into Canada, Australia, France, Switzerland, India, South Africa, Iceland, and local neighborhood units.” (the salvation army history, n.d.) The Salvation Army is active in every corner of the world. The Salvation Army has...

...identify these symptoms. That is where Master Resilience Training (MRT) comes into play. Until we get educated, understand how people react to different situations, then, and only then, can we help our soldiers when they need it the most. We have to care. We have to get involved. Our soldiers deserve good leaders, they deserve the best because they are the best and the future on our army. Our Leadership and Master Resilience Training Family problems, alcohol problems, drugs, suicides, and sexual assaults are some of the problems that our soldiers are struggling with when returning from deployments. To tackle these problems and to help our soldiers more effectively, the army created what we now know as Master Resilience Training (MRT). MRT teaches us how to identify the different symptoms so we can be able to recognize them in our soldiers and be able to help them to cope with those issues. That is what MRT teaches us. It gives us the tools to recognize our weaknesses and allow us to rebound from failure. The only way that us as leaders can help our soldiers is by educating ourselves in this matter and accept it as an important tool. As leaders, we have to be more involved and this is the purpose of my paper. I will discuss how Be Serious About It, Staying Involved, Recognizing Challenges, and...

...Accountability of Military Weapons and Gear It is very important at all times for a soldier to know where their weapon ,headset or any equipment are. Especially when at war. A soldier without his/her equipment is handicapped, he she can not defend him or herself from enemy fire without having their weapon ready ,nor communicate with people in their convoy without their headset. Having your weapon and headset secure is also a matter of safety. Going out on any mission in the military without necessary equipment is dangerous. A soldier can not be ready to engage the enemy without his/her necessary equipment near and ready. Also when you know where your weapons, headsets, and other equipment are you are providing a good example to other soldiers on how to always keep track of important items. Keeping track of important items is part of a soldier’s many duties. Accountability in the Army is very important. Whether it be with people or with items and weapons. A good military can not function without always having accurate accountability. That also applies to individual soldiers and their gear. I personally appreciate my M16 rifle. It is powerful and efficient. I know that I can use it to protect me if my life is ever threatened. When I have it with me i feel protected. Whether I have a round in the chamber or not. I do not like neglecting to have it with me when I go out because it’s like a part of my body is missing without it at my side. I think the policy of having soldiers carry...

...Duties of a NCO As a Non Commissioned Officers we need to seek what is best for our soldiers. It is our duty to guide them through this Army process. How are we going to do this? By maintaining discipline, training soldiers and ensuring welfare. Maintaining discipline, by ensuring that the soldiers are doing the right thing on and off duty like when we are in the motor pool and you see soldier not helping others to accomplish the assigned task. Ensure Preventive Maintenance Checks and Service are conducted by the book and ensuring that if they find a discrepancy to annotate in 5988’s. We need to be more creative and find some other ways to keep them busy. Inspecting their rooms and making sure they are living like people and not Pigs. Monitoring not micromanaging what they do and who they hang out with in their free time, will only help prevent them from getting in to trouble. Control the underage drinking, but how we can accomplish this one if we have other Non Commissioned Officers promoting “not to get caught”. We need to conduct every now and then some uniform inspections, in that way we can instill the habit in soldiers on having a fresh hair cut on Mondays, clean Army Combat Uniforms every day, and the necessary inspectable items. I think, and this is just an idea, but if we put one of soldiers in a Non Commissioned Officer position for a day, they would feel the weight of responsibilities a Non Commissioned Officer bares. At the same time we can start developing...
