Throughout the novel, Golding emphasizes on a hidden message through his use of literary devices such as metaphors,foreshadowing and symbolism, etc. This message that he emphasises on, is not just one of truth that the bridge holds but also his very personal opinion on how human nature takes it form whilst civilization is absent. Golding emphasis on the evilness of human nature which is concealed by human creations such as laws and consequences as well as civilization. Golding portrays the evilness in a very indirect way where the evilness can only be seen by another. The novel is set in an isolated island with the boys surviving on it after their plane crash.
