Throughout the two trimesters enrolled in Mrs. Nelson class, we have read and watched an unreal amount of pieces of literature. All of these works presented us with strong themes that are extremely present in today’s society, and has been setting regulations to human behavior. The focus of this essay is to synthesize the works related to both the cycle of liberation and cycle of socialization, and for my themes, I chose developing a voice and individualism. I decided to talk about these two themes because they evidently explore the human and societal nature, and show the impact on has on another when developing one’s identity; and ultimately finding one’s purpose in life.

The book Siddhartha, by Herman Hesse was title after the protagonist’s name and the book is essentially about a man who firmly holds into his morals, and the true power of knowledge. Siddhartha, the protagonist, decided to join the Ascetics hoping to become a Samana agreeing to his father conditions, which demanded that after some time he would have to return home, a demanded he never obeyed. He believed that staying home would have made him a reflection of his community instead of his inner-self and would negatively interfere with his process of self-discovery. As a result, Siddhartha and his friend, Govinda, joined the Ascetics and became members of the Samanas.
