...Why Chinese mothers are superior There are numerous opinions about how to raise children ideally. Everyone want to do what is best for their children, but the description about how to do so, is extremely different from parent to parent. There has especially been quite a lot debate about how Chinese mothers raise their children compared to Western mothers. Many Westerns people describe the Chinese mothers methods of upbringing as strict, pushy and some times directly cruel. The article “Why Chinese Mothers are Superior” deals with these differences between methods of upbringing, written by the 48-year-old Chinese-American mother Amy Chua and it is thereby seen from her point of view. The author Amy Chua is a professor at Yale Law School and has two daughters herself, whom she is raising very strictly with lots of rules and big demands. Chua claims that the way that Chinese mothers are upbringing their children, is superior compared to the Western mothers methods of upbringing. She underlines than in order to achieve success, the children must focus on certain priority areas, and therefore they are forced to give up other things. This is why her own daughters are not allowed to attend to sleepovers, choose their own extracurricular activities and they are demand to be the very best in every subject except gym and drama. This is only a few of the rules, which Chua’s daughters must live by. Chua underlines that one of the most important parts of upbringing in Chinese manner, is...

OBJECTIVE & SCOPE A cruise ship or cruise liner is a passenger ship used for pleasure voyages, where the voyage itself and the ship's amenities are a part of the experience, as well as the different destinations along the way. Transportation is not the prime purpose, as cruise ships operate mostly on routes that return passengers to their originating port, so the ports of call are usually in a specified region of a continent. There are even "cruises to nowhere" or "nowhere voyages" where the ship makes 2-3 day round trips without any ports of call. Together with Norwegian Cruise Line, Star Cruises is the third largest cruise line in the world operating a combined fleet of 18 ships with approximately 35,000 lower berths, with cruises to over 200 destinations...

Retirement planning is important to everyone, and it will only become more important as time goes on. In the next few years, after successfully earning my MBA at Columbia, I would like to seek a position as a defined contribution analyst in an international finance organization. Because of the excellent preparation Columbia will have provided me, I will immediately excel and climb up the corporate ladder. This is the best way that I can make an impact and grow as a professional at the same time. Eventually, I would like to expand my client base overseas, starting with the Asia, where the foundation of the defined contribution is still very weak and unfounded. Certain experiences have prepared me well for this goal. I look forward to the opportunity to put my Chinese language skills to use, possibly by first serving as an analyst in Hong Kong or Shanghai. Job description Recent years, the economics of Saskatchewan is booming, especially for the real estate industry. Morgan Dragon Development Corp. as a land development company is expanding the business rapidly under this economic tendency. We offer a position of an Office Clerk, which is marketing oriented. This job is responsible for performing administrative activities for a business' marketing and sales department. We would like to hire a local Chinese clerk for this position. The reason is that when more and more Chinese skill workers, investors, students immigrate to Saskatchewan, Chinese market has become our biggest market. Besides, Morgan Dragon Development Corp is a China-based company that 80% of managers are Chinese. Therefore, we consider hiring a local Chinese person due to the specific company culture and managing style. More specifically, the ideal candidate for this position is a Chinese person who has studied the Canadian marketing system in Canada before. 1).Therefore, the ideal...

...In an article written by Kara Miller titled, My Lazy American Students, it states that international students have higher work ethics, than Americans. Kara Miller argues that international students have better time management skills, continuously strive for better grades, and will continue to excel no matter the circumstances. While American students, who have several makeup chances, still tend to not take advantage of opportunities, are distracted by technology, and excel enough just to pass. In my opinion, the statement made by Kara Miller is true. International students tend to achieve higher in school, than American students due to better work ethics. International students have better work ethics, in order to prove their worth within the American Country. In Kara Miller’s defending post to, My Lazy American Students, she states, “it may be, as many have said on the Globe website, that international students who come here represent their country’s best and brightest and that comparing them to American students is...

...Why Chinese Mothers Are Superior Amy Chua The Wall Street Journal; January 8, 2011 A lot of people wonder how Chinese parents raise such stereotypically successful kids. They wonder what these parents do to produce so many math whizzes and music prodigies, what it's like inside the family, and whether they could do it too. Well, I can tell them, because I've done it. Here are some things my daughters, Sophia and Louisa, were never allowed to do: • attend a sleepover • have a playdate • be in a school play • complain about not being in a school play • watch TV or play computer games • choose their own extracurricular activities • get any grade less than an A • not be the No. 1 student in every subject except gym and drama • play any instrument other than the piano or violin • not play the piano or violin. I'm using the term "Chinese mother" loosely. I know some Korean, Indian, Jamaican, Irish and Ghanaian parents who qualify too. Conversely, I know some mothers of Chinese heritage, almost always born in the West, who are not Chinese mothers, by choice or otherwise. I'm also using the term "Western parents" loosely. Western parents come in all varieties. All the same, even when Western parents think they're being strict, they usually don't come close to being Chinese mothers. For example, my Western friends who consider themselves strict make their children practice their instruments 30 minutes every day. An hour at most. For a Chinese mother, the first hour is...

...parent’s goal is to give their children all the best in life, encouraging them to excel in everything they do, but what happens when that parent goes above and beyond, and not in a positive socially excepting way. The difference between Chinese mothers and Western civilization “moms” is pitch black night and day. All a Chinese mother has left to do to raise their children is a battery pack inserted in the child’s back, given the way some Asian people in today’s society are stereotyped, math genius’s, music prodigies, large corporation CEO’s, it seems that in a way Chinese parenting has something going on, even as strict as it often gets, pretty much taking a child’s childhood almost completely away. As in “the west side”, it is highly believed to let a kid be a kid, that’s how you learn what’s right and wrong, your personal likes and dislikes and have a better chance to mold yourself as a person and not be molded like a product straight off the factory line. A Chinese mother will stress academic excellence, not encouraging but making, even if harsh threats and degrading are involved for their child to have perfect A’s and be number one in not pretty much everything, but EVERYTHING that that child does. A Western parent most of the times settles for a pass, “good job Bobby, you got a C in your social study’s test”, as a Chinese parent would just about cut your finger off for failing said test. While Chinese parents spend approximately 10 times as long every day drilling academic activities...
