Problem Statement The purpose of the study was to compare a walking exercise to a stretching exercise program during pregnancy in high-risk women who were sedentary and had previous history of preeclampsia. The problem was clearly stated and was a feasible researchable problem. The problem had significance for nursing and for the medical profession and might improve practice and education. While the researcher does a good job of stating why the problem is important, it could have been helpful for him to list numbers of people who are affected by preeclampsia and complications of the disease itself. Hydrotherapy During Pregnancy

...Hydrotherapy during Pregnancy Hydrotherapy is when a pregnant woman immerses herself in water that covers her abdomen, during the first stage of labor. It is often utilized as a non-pharmacological source of pain management for laboring women, and it is also considered to be a technique that promotes natural childbirth. Hydrotherapy not only provides comfort, but it also promotes physiological childbirth and supports relaxation. Although hydrotherapy is recommended for women, there are eligibility requirements that include the following: healthy pregnant women over 37 weeks of gestation, no complications during pregnancy, a cephalic presentation, and also a single fetus pregnancy (Dykes, Johnson, Frazer, & Hussy, 2017). The following paper will discuss research regarding hydrotherapy, ideal nursing outcomes, and how to promote the use of hydrotherapy in pregnancy. As a vaginal delivery is a painful experience for women, hydrotherapy aims to reduce the pain experienced by women during this special time in their lives. A study completed by Taghavi, Barband, & Khaki (2015), aimed to further explore the use of hydrotherapy on the progress of labor and delivery. One hundred women without any risk factors were utilized as the sample population, and were further divided into fifty...

The purpose of the study was to compare a walking exercise to a stretching exercise program during pregnancy in high-risk women who were sedentary and had previous history of preeclampsia. This five-year study investigated the effects of walking or stretching on the incidence of preeclampsia and reports on adherence to the intervention and on the secondary outcomes of changes in resting heart rate (HR), resting blood pressure and weight gain (Yeo, 2009). Statement of the Problem The problem was clearly stated and was a sufficient researchable problem. The researcher does a good job of stating why the problem is important, but there was no mention of the number of people who are affected by preeclampsia and complications of the disease itself. Yeo (2009) identifies the following research question for this study as: 1. Will previously sedentary pregnant women adhere to an exercise program for 40 minutes a day 5 times a week in the latter half of pregnancy (Yeo, 2009)? 2. Is there a difference in adherence to a walking program or a stretching exercise program (Yeo, 2009)? 3. How does adherence to walking or stretching change with the advance of pregnancy (Yeo, 2009)...

Week 2 Right now, you're just dying to find out: Am I pregnant or not? Unfortunately, you'll need to stick it out a bit longer. About four days after your egg is fertilized, it begins producing a hormone called human chorionic gonadotropin (HCG), which pregnancy tests can detect in about another week -- first in your blood (via a test at your doctor's office) and then in your urine (which an at-home screening would spot). Week 3 Get yourself a good doctor -- pronto! Having a healthcare provider you like and trust is key. After all, this is the person who will guide you through your entire pregnancy, labor, and delivery, along with the millions of questions, tests, and emotional ups and downs along the way. If you don't currently have an ob-gyn you love, ask friends, family, and coworkers for recommendations or research practices until you find someone you feel comfortable with. And, hey, your choices are not limited to regular obstetricians. You might also want to investigate alternative or additional types of care -- including midwives or family physicians Week 4 Don't be surprised if your doctor doesn't schedule an appointment to see you until your 8- to 12-week mark. Many healthcare practices have potential mommies-to-be come in for a blood test with a nurse first to confirm pregnancy and then wait until you're far enough...

Ultrasound

...Ultrasound For our project we researched ultrasound which is also commonly known as a Sonogram. The definition of ultrasound is energy that is generated by sound waves of 20,000 or greater vibrations per second. Ultrasound is used in many different arrays. It is most often used in the medical field. Ultrasound uses sound waves that are too high to be heard by the human ear. A part of the ultrasound machine called the transducer is placed on the body part and sound waves are emitted from the transducer and reflected back from organs and tissues. When the wave is sent back to the transducer it puts it into the computer which then measures the length of time it took for the wave to leave and come back and this is what makes up the pictures. Ultrasounds are used to look for many different things in the body from tumors to bones to examining an unborn baby. The history of Ultrasound doesn’t go back very far. Although ultrasound has been around since the first world war. It wasn’t until the 1940’s when it was first used for medical purposes. Two researchers are recognized in the history of ultrasound, Doctor Karl Theodore Dussik of Austria and Professor Ian Donald of Scotland. They were the first physicians to use ultrasound for medical purposes. Dussik first used ultrasound to find tumors in the brain and to look for the cerebral ventricals. He called his procedure hyperphonography. Donald wrote an article called Investigation of Abdominal Masses by Pulsed Ultrasound. That was...

With the school district noticing that childhood obesity is on the rise, there is only one psychological educational program that is offered for both children and adults. The program is called “Healthy in the Poconos”. Healthy in the Poconos offers counseling, education, nutrition counselors, and low cost fitness trainers for the community to access.
